Letters to Stephen - The LeDames Ball

December 16, 2024

Dear Stephen,

I am admittedly nervous to write you this letter because I have gotten myself into a small mess, I think, but I told you that I would be more forthright with you especially when I am nervous.

I have been informed by my grandmother, the one who thinks we shouldn't be together, that she has arranged a betrothal ball for me where I am to be introduced to possible suitors. As she has explained, at least in the LeDames family, girls are introduced to Pureblood society after they turn 13 and a ball is held for them to find a suitor to marry in the future.

This has been planned without my knowledge and I do feel rather obliged to attend as it is my grandmother and a lot of effort has gone into the planning. So I will be spending winter break in France with the LeDames women this year.

Do know this though, that my heart belongs to you, and while I feel obliged to attend this ball, I will not be allowing my grandmother to arrange my marriage to anyone.

I do understand if you are mad or upset at me, though. I'm not sure if I said anything to imply that this was okay or if my grandmother just decided to plan this on her own.

Um. I think that's all I meant to say about that.
I hope your exams went well and you have a Happy Chanukah.

Yours,
EmmaLee LeDames.
