A sorting surprise. Closed

The Platform:
The time on the platform was a blur, hugging mom and dad, saying bye to grandma and grandpa.
I glanced at Zoe's red hair disappearing into the brick wall that was platform 9 3/4.
My turn. I wasn't afraid, my beating heart was excitement. And a bit of relief that me and Zoe could go to the same school, and hope that we would be sorted into the same house.
Dad had laid some groundwork as to what the houses were and what the people inside them were like.
Ravenclaw: smart determined people.
Hufflepuff: The kind ones, the dependable sidekicks
Gryffindor: The main characters, the brave souls.
Slytherin: Cold self obsessed people. Serving their own interests.
I personally thought dad was biased, him being in Gryffindor and his parents in Slytherin.
I think Slytherins are just resourceful. They know how to get what they need and want. I don't think the name Slytherin should ever be mentioned with disgust.
I was through the platform. I breathed a sigh of relief. I think it's odd that we have to walk through a wall. I wonder who thought of it.
I smile at Zoe and she returns my grin. I imagine she and I will remember this much differently.
We are both hoping for Ravenclaw. We were at the top of our class at muggle school. Our hobbies were intellectual ones, but I had a feeling she was to be in Gryffindor, she was very... well, out going, center of attention, troublemaker, possessed a bravery I could hardly dream of. In my mind I was either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, no room for questioning.
The train ride:
Before I knew it my thoughts (and Zoe) had dragged me into an almost empty train car, there was one other person, but I couldn't see their face and they were sleeping.
Zoe was whisper-yapping into my ear about how excited she was. I was staring out the window, nodding along and only partially processing what she had said.
I was pretty sure she'd find new friends, especially if we were in different houses.
I shook my head, trying to dislodge my thoughts and focus my full attention on Zoe.
I realized she had just stopped talking, seemingly in deep thought as well.
After the train ride:
The aftermath of getting off the train went by in a flurry of faces and cold, drizzly rain.
I had gotten some of Zoe's wild auburn hair in my mouth and it was not pleasant to say the least.
The (surprising) sorting:
Before I knew it we were standing inside of the imposing castle that was my new school/home for the year. I looked up at the hulking door in front of us that was hiding the hat that would decide my fate. I knew I was being dramatic, but hey, I was nervous, I admit it.
I pulled a typical Zoe and held my head high, feigning confidence.
Only Zoe would know I was nervous, I'm pretty sure she was too, though it was hard to tell, she was always so fearless.
I fiddled with my earrings and bracelet, I always had earrings and a bracelet on, an outlet for my ever apparent nervous habit.
We made our way to the front and a few names and their houses were called, cheering erupted from the corresponding tables.
It was my turn, Zoe squeezed my hand and I smiled at her.
The Sorting Hat hollered, "GRYFFINDOR!"
I gaped, my jaw practically hitting the floor. I quickly schooled my expression into one of pure elation.
My gaze darted to Zoe, she seemed just as surprised as I was.
I walked over to the rowdy red table, smiling back at all of my new... house mates? What would I call them?
I quickly sat down, looking to see Zoe, hoping she would be a Gryffindor as well.
She looked impatient, though it was hard to tell from here.
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
I stiffened. How on earth could my sassy trouble maker sister be a HUFFLEPUFF of all houses? I could've gotten behind Slytherin at this point, but Hufflepuff? That was crossing a line.
I frowned, my brows furrowed.
The rest of the sorting was rather unmemorable in my brain. An older Gryffindor girl tryed to converse with me, and in efforts to be polite I humoured her and talked with her, my mind a million kilometers away.
I couldn't eat, my mind preoccupied with other things. I would have to send father an owl, get his thoughts on the matter.
I would have to talk to Zoe too of course.
The rest of the night passed in a blur.
This was quite a night of sorting surprises.

(Extra out of character: Feel free to be the random person on the train ride!)
(I do have Zoe's consent for her being in this thread, and do go read her version of the Sorting Surprise.)
