───────────────────────── december 2, 2024 ─────────────────────────Ah, the library.
The rustic smell, the dim lighting, the dust particles that never failed to make her break into hysterical fits of sneezing. Lonnie absolutely loved the library. She wasn't one for stereotypes, but there was one she couldn't help but fall victim to, as she really was just a nerdy, curious, quiet Ravenclaw who would much rather spend hours consuming the knowledge of dusty old library books than actually step outside and socialize.
In all honesty, Lonnie read books for fun. Who could blame her? Growing up in the muggle world, she had come to grow tired of the same concepts taught over and over again for years. Of course, she had her interests. She supposed sometimes science was cool. But being in school as long as she had (and her incredibly short attention span didn't help either), basically everything, every subject, every topic, had grown so monotonous and dull that school had become a living nightmare.
Then she got to Hogwarts. An entirely new curriculum. Concepts and ideas she had never known. A brand new view of history. Species whose name she had never heard of her entire life. Lonnie was ecstatic. Every subject seemed so interesting, like she could read about it for hours. For the first time in years, she actually enjoyed learning. There was not a single class she could get bored of.
Hence why, today, on a chilly, December day after school, she found herself in the library, a dusty old copy of Newt Scamander's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sprawled out on the equally dusty and old table. It was one of her favorites. She had already read it three times.
She had finished all her homework only an hour prior. She liked to stay on top of things, so she made sure to handle the majority of her homework during her breaks. It's not like she had much to do anyway. She didn't like socializing all that much, and she didn't have that many people to socialize with either. So for Lonnie, breaks were always spent alone. But she didn't mind it. It was her quiet time, anyway. And it paid off. Because now she had nothing to do. Except read her books.
She looked like a little kid, sitting there, face buried in a book while she happily kicked her legs back and forth under the table. She had not a care nor worry in the world, of course, other than the wonderful piece of literature before her. Nothing could possibly distract her, for when Lonnie was interested in a book, she was interested.
Well, maybe a few things could distract her. Maybe a lot of things. She got distracted easily.
Out of the corner of her eye, Lonnie noticed a girl, maybe her age, sitting at a table adjacent to hers. She seemed to be working. Well, obviously. What else would one do at a library? But she was working hard, likely on homework, at least from what Lonnie could discern and assume.
That was when her curiosity got the best of her. With nothing but her eyes peeking out from behind the large book, Lonnie's gaze shifted to the girl. She couldn't help it when she stared. It didn't matter anyway. The girl wouldn't be able to tell she was looking.
Would she?─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────@Pamela Graham

Speech -- Thoughts
I need a therapist for real.
Pam sighed, resisting the urge to hit her head on the table multiple times. She was starting to dislike Herbology as much as she disliked History of Magic. If only plants weren't necessary for our survival, then no-one would have bothered to study them. And she disliked assignments anyway. She considered for the nth time of dropping the assignment for a while, but it was due in two days. Maybe I should have divided the assignment up instead of pushing it to the last minute... She pouted, wanting to flail her arms and legs around and throw a tantrum.
"I want my dad." She fake cried, pouting dramatically as she knew exactly what her father would've told her in this situation. Then again, her father had an ability of making an old broken cup look interesting. A skill she had, quite clearly, not inherited from him.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed someone enter and sit at a table adjacent to hers. She didn't bother much; people were always coming and going from the library and she was used to it. And she was in no mood to look at someone else at the moment.
Well, that was until Pam felt the weight of someone's stare on her. She looked up, glancing around and finally stopping at the table where a girl was sitting with a book open and peeking over the top. Pam raised her eyebrows as her head disappeared behind the big book again. What? Is she trying to be stealthy? She's not doing a good job.
Well, it didn't matter. Pam wasn't a person who would go and approach someone for no reason. She didn't mind people looking at her as long as they didn't bother her. She turned back to her homework, aiming to complete it quickly. Hopefully

She saw.
Lonnie's face turned bright red as she made dead eye contact with the girl she had been staring at. The girl raised a brow, causing Lonnie to duck behind the safety of the large book.
Did she see?
No, yeah, she definitely saw.
Still shielding her face with the book, Lonnie bit her lip. How could she fix this? She didn't want that girl to think she was some kind of freak-weirdo who spent her free time bothering people and staring at them in the dusty corners of the library. Oh! She had an idea. Maybe she could go up and doing something nice that would immediately erase her memory of the staring. Yeah, she'd go and do that.
Lonnie carefully set down the book, brushing off the table to ensure that none of the dust particles contaminated the particularly clean book. She then took a deep breath, calming and orienting herself as she prepared to approach the girl. Lonnie did not like talking. Especially with new people. If it was a random day, this was not something she'd be doing. However, it was either do this, or have at least one person at Hogwarts think she was a creepy stalker freak. So this was inherently the better option.
Combing through her hair and wiping her sweaty palms on her sweater (ew, gross), Lonnie gathered herself, taking a deep breath as she walked up to approach the girl. Upon closer inspection, the girl also appeared to be a first year. Or at least an underclassman, somebody who definitely appeared as young as Lonnie. Her hair was blonde and curly, and her blue eyes closely resembled Lonnie's.
"Hi," Lonnie blurted. Oh my god. She was pretty sure her voice just cracked. She wasn't sure, she could barely think. It felt like her mind was erasing things as soon as they happened. Quick, say something you idiot.
Lonnie's eyes frantically scrambled across the room as she thought of anything to bring up. Eventually, they fell upon the sheet on the table in front of the girl. Herbology. Perfect. Lonnie was great at herbology.
"Are you doing homework?" She chirped. And then that's when the word vomit started. "Herbology? Hey, I'm like, great at herbology. Maybe I can help you. What lesson is that? The one we just did? I actually already finished it, just today. I had herbology like..." she paused to count the days on her fingers. "...like... two days ago! But I finished the homework already, I like to finish my homework early because it gives me more free time. But I'm also really good at it! I've been getting Os on my herbology homework. I mean, it's pretty easy so like, really, you probably should've finished it by now. But I can see you've been working on it. It really shouldn't take that long. Here, look, I can totally help you and it'll probably make a lot more sense," she blabbered on, smiling as she began to reach for the girl's homework sheet without even asking.─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────@Pamela Graham

Speech -- Thoughts
Pam frowned as the girl approached her table but sighed, preparing herself for a conversation. It was alright until the 'hello' but then the girl started rambling. Pam gaped at her, biting back a hard retort. Seriously? Does her mouth have no filter? She scoffed, looking away to calm herself down a bit. There was no reason for the girl to have pointed out the fact that her herbology homework should have been finished much earlier. Like really? I would never have guessed. Pam's Herbology was BAD. Like, her average there was Exceeds Expectations and Pam was a perfectionist, so that was like, absolutely unacceptable. And then to have a random stranger shove it in her face about her perfect marks seriously put her off.
She cleared her throat, quickly pulling her papers out of reach of the girl's hands. "No thanks." She replied, successfully keeping her voice more or less friendly, although she couldn't keep the bite out of it, "I've got it covered." The scanned the girl over, she would probably be a fellow first year. Her eyes fell on her tie, Oh, a Ravenclaw! Pam seemed to be always bumping into Ravenclaws. Like seriously, why were they everywhere?! But then again, Pam frequented the library all the time. She didn't think annoying Ravenclaws existed though. The ones she had met had been great at picking up social cues and generally avoiding disasters. Was that another reason Pam hadn't been put into Ravenclaw?
The Hufflepuff glanced at the other girl, waiting for her next action. Please leave and let me do my homework in peace. She really wanted to get out and do something else.
