It had been a long time since Irina was genuinely excited about attending an event at Hogwarts. Years had gone by with terrorist attacks, balls, broom races, and summer camps. For her final year at Koldovstoretz , Hogwarts finally was hosting the Potions Championship, an event Irina was thrilled to take part in. Potions had been her focus at Koldovstoretz starting in her third year and she was ready to show off just how incredible the potions education was. Irina was planning to become a potioneer after graduation and explore the world through discovering new potions. This was her chance to prove her skills and the strength of her school.
Upon hearing that she would have to retrieve an object from a swooping evil, Irina realized the options of potions to make were truly endless. She thought to herself, I could try and remain undetected with an invisibility potion, or I could go for enhanced senses with the Vitamix Potion, or I could go tiny and become almost an unseeable and unhittable threat with the Shrinking Solution. Irina was worried about making the wrong decision, but with two potions to create, she hoped that taking a gamble now would pay off for her later along the line.
Taking her place in a potioneers haven, Irina went up to the ingredients shelves and grabbed an odd combination of items ranging from daisy roots to leech juice to caterpillars to rat spleens and shrivelfigs. The potion itself was not the most difficult to brew, but it was horribly difficult to drink without spitting it out. Returning back to her table, Irina looked around to see others in her area had grabbed ingredients for the other potions she was considering to brew. All the competition seemed to do was fuel Irina's drive to brew spectacularly.
To start the brewing process, Irina sliced five of her six caterpillars, setting one alive on aside in a container for later. She added the caterpillars to the cauldron and turned on the heat until it turned perfectly red. Moving quickly, Irina peeled her three Shrivelfigs and shook them out until they were ready, ultimately adding them to the potion. A yellow color started to shine in her cauldron after the addition and Irina smiled to herself while heating the potion to turquoise. Keeping the heat on, Irina waited until the potion turned a solid purple before adding her least favorite part the rat spleens.
Muttering quietly to herself in Russian, Irina expressed her discomfort, "Eww, rat spleens are exceptionally gross to use in this potion and I'm starting to wish that I picked a potion I wouldn't have to drink. Anyways, I guess its a necessary portion to this gross potion." Irina didn't have much time to dwell as potioneering was a craft of precision timing and actions. She crushed her daisy roots in a mortar and pestle, adding them slowly to the cauldron until it turned a notable shade of green.
Five drops of the leech juice were next, and regardless how disgusting Irina might have thought it was, she couldn't afford to miss a single step. At least she didn't have to harvest her own ingredients for this potion. Irina collected the remains of the shrivelfig and cautiously added it to her potion until it turned a calm pink. Then, Irina removed her previously contained caterpillar from its container and sliced it up, ensuring all the fresh juices made it into the cauldron.
Finishing up her potion, Irina heated the cauldron until it returned to beautiful green color. Smiling at her work, Irina waved her wand over the potion to complete and announced, "Potion, complete." Her shrinking solution looked perfect in her eyes and hopefully the efficiency and accuracy she showed would be enough for the judges.
Irina was here to impress and to win. She was here for her school, herself, her fallen classmates, and her future. Koldovstoretz was rarely seen as a competitor school, but Irina was ready to change that with this potion championship. If she could win then the school would finally get some well deserved recognition for its great potions program.
