At the southern wing of Ilvermorny’s upper floors, tucked within the great rotunda once used as a formal library, lies the repurposed office of Headmistress Alexandra Draymoor. She had chosen the space not for status or visibility, but for what it represented—illumination, perspective, and the ever-turning wheel of knowledge.

Visitors who enter first pass through a short, arched hallway lined with enchanted sconces and fine portraiture, the kind that doesn’t speak unless spoken to. At the end of the hall stands a whitewashed wooden door with a bronze handle and no visible lock. When open, it reveals the full grandeur of the converted domed chamber: a circular study enclosed by two tiers of tall shelves overflowing with books, magical texts, and obscure artifacts from all corners of the magical world.

The ceiling above is glass—enchanted, of course—to remain pristine through snow, rain, or pollen. It filters sunlight gently through the room, and when storms rage outside, the enchantments subdue their intensity, leaving only a soft, ambient hum overhead. Wisteria and rose vines spill over the curved upper gallery, never overgrown, their blossoms trailing petals with a slowness that suggests deliberate charmwork.

Directly across the entrance is a set of white columns that frames a secondary archway leading to a small stone balcony. From there, students can see the southern forest, the winding walkways of the grounds, and the shimmer of the protective wards in the distance. In warmer months, the scent of blooming wildflowers finds its way inside.

To the left, Alexandra’s desk commands attention. Carved of polished cherrywood with gold inlays, it’s adorned with thick tomes, elegant crystal paperweights, and a black-ink quill set in silver. Behind the desk is a tall, embroidered chair bearing the image of a Thunderbird in flight—wings wide, claws poised.

On the right side of the room, a more welcoming corner beckons: a sitting area with high-backed chairs and a plush, ivory-colored sofa positioned around a low circular table. Delicate tea sets rest atop the table at all hours, seemingly self-refreshing. A fresh arrangement of seasonal flowers is always in place—today, orchid and tulip.

Near the bookcases rests a tall, silver-framed mirror angled to reflect the whole room. It was more often used by Alexandra to refresh her appearance every so often.

All around the office, personal touches blend seamlessly with tradition. A polished wand rack beside the desk holds historical pieces. Framed documents—some written in languages older than the continent—hang beside modern photographs of scholars, spellcrafters, and revolutionaries. Ilvermorny banners hang proudly from the curved walls, and yet none dominate the space.

When Alexandra is present, the door to the office is often cracked open, allowing quiet footfalls to echo into the entryway. Whether standing at the balcony or seated at her desk, she is rarely idle—yet never too busy to look up when someone enters with purpose.
