"Mom, I'll be fine! You said it yourself, there's nothing to worry about! There are lots of people there to watch over me. And Hogwarts is super duper safe. And there's always going to be enough to eat."
"Yes, my love. I know... but still! You'll be gone for so long!" Doey's mom pulled her into a tight hug. One so tight, Doey could barely breathe. Doey tapped her mom on the arm, and she was squeezed before she was let go.
"Doey's right, Janie." Her dad asserted, as Janie glared at him. "She has everything she needs. Hey, when you come back, why don't you show me a spell that'll clean your room?"
Doey's cheeks flushed in embarrassment. "Dad..." Doey started, when her mom cut her off.
"Oh, come on, Dan, she's just a kid! Besides, she's not allowed to use magic outside of school... Unless she's with me." She winked at Doey.
"I don't understand why that would change anything." Dan sighed, obviously getting frustrated.
"It's just the way the Ministry works!" Janie smiled, snippily.
There was a silence. Doey was grateful both her parents were here to send her off, despite being separated, though she was getting uncomfortable with the tension that was forming. Thankfully, the train whistle blew and gave an entrance to an exit.
"Well... The train's boarding now." Doey breathed. Even though she often got annoyed at her mom's overbearing nature, she found it comforting. She dreamed of Hogwarts and being free from her parents' arguments, and she wanted something new. This was her chance. But why was she so worried?
She started toward the train, but after taking a step, she paused. She quickly turned around and hugged her parents, one in each arm.
"I'll miss you..." she whispered so softly, her parents could barely hear it. She spoke up, "I'll write you both letters!"
Her mom, ever the worrier, couldn't let go. Despite many "persuasive" attempts by Doey's father, Janie continued to hug her little girl tight, even when train whistle blew again to signal it was about to leave.
"Mom! Please let me go! I'm gonna miss the train!" Doey panicked, flailing her arms to free herself of her mother's grasp.
Janie finally released her, and Doey ran into the train. She waited by the train window, waving at her smiling parents, watching them get smaller and smaller, until they were out of view. She took a deep breath.
"Phew. I should probably find a seat."
