Taking the Reins Solo

Esmeralda sat at her desk, head clutched in her hands as her mind replayed the events of the past few weeks over and over again.

She thought it was just going to be a trip to Hogwarts for the Fall ball, yet it had turned into flames upon their arrival. As soon as the news had reached the rest of the Castelobruxo board of directors, a meeting was held to discuss the Headmistress position. Esmeralda, being stuck in Scotland with the remaining Castelobruxo students, was no a part of the meeting so was rather surprised when she received a letter from the board members. The meeting had resulted in her being nominated for the position of Headmistress and they needed to know her response upon her arrival back to Brazil.

That is how Esmeralda found herself sitting stiffly at her desk only minutes before another meeting was being held and she still had no idea of whether she even wanted to be headmistress. Normally this would be something she discussed thoroughly with her brother, but he was not hear so she needed to make the decisions herself.

There were pros and cons to taking the position and the cons weighed heavily on the woman's mind. She would be responsible for all of the staff and students, if anything happened to them she had to figure out what to do from there and she was not sure that was something she was prepared for. The other part of her mind was telling her to accept the position though. The Castelobruxo board members had nominated her, meaning they had faith that she was capable of taking on the position. While Esme would never be able to meet the level of standard Headmistress Duarado was at, she could at least try her hardest.

With a huff, Esmeralda ran her hands through her hair one last time as she stood up and made her way out of the room. At this point, she knew the only right answer was to accept the position. The board members had faith in her so she needed to have faith in herself or it would never end well. She was late for the meeting, but at least she had the answer for them.

"I'll take the position."

No one was even able to get a word in before Esmeralda was speaking, but at least the meeting would not have to last forever with them attempting to find someone else to take the position.
