i don't believe in god but i believe that you're my savor
sorry its so short!!Juniper tapped her fingers on her desk slowly, wanting anything or any reason to leave this class and sleep. God, what she wouldn't give for a few extra hours of sleep. She peered at the girl next to her, who seemed bored too. Or interested? She couldn't tell. The girl's face was stone cold, yet strinkingly beautiful. She wasn't sure if she'd seen this girl before, that was why she was curious. She surveyed the girl from the corner of her eye, before snapping back to attention.
partners.
She looked around the room and her heart sank while she rolled her eyes. Great. The one class she knew no one. Correction; she didn't know anyone in any of her classes. All of her old friends are fourth years.
So she did the next best thing. She turned to the mysterious girl and attempted a smile, surprised at how easy it came. "Hey." It came out like a squeak. What the fuck was that? She coughed. "God, what the- hey. Wanna partner?" She assumed the girl didn't know anyone else either, because she hadn't gotten up or turned away. "I should warn you, my spell casting isn't very good so watch out." She joked, smiling at the girl again.

The classroom buzzed to life as students began shuffling about, responding to Professor Fresnel's instructions to find partners for the day's charm exercise. The animated gestures from the front of the room left little room for misinterpretation—it was clear she wanted everyone paired off quickly.
Ula Takahashi didn't move. She stayed seated, watching as her classmates milled about, swapping seats and throwing eager waves or awkward glances. She twirled her cherry-wood wand idly, the movement as natural as her desk partners tapping on the table.
She wasn't in the mood to engage, especially not with this crowd. Most of them were about as sharp as a rubber cauldron. So, she let her eyes wander, studying the chalkboard half-heartedly, when—
"Hey"
Hesitant. Awkward. High-pitched.
A cough and then another attempt: "Hey."
She let her fingers pause mid-spin, the wand balanced delicately, and finally shifted her gaze toward the interruption. A Ravenclaw girl sat next to her, her blue tie slightly skewed and her expression trying its best to appear casual. But Ula noticed the stiffness in her smile and the way her hands fidgeted with the edge of her robe.
"Partner?" Ravenclaw ventured, her voice steadier now. The nervous grin returned, accompanied by a quick disclaimer: "I should warn you, my spell casting isn't very good, so watch out."
Ula's lips curled into a faint smirk, her dark eyes glinting with mischief. She leaned back in her chair, studying the girl with deliberate slowness. "Not very good at spellcasting?" she repeated, her voice silky and faintly mocking. "A Ravenclaw who's bad at magic? Shocking."
"Alright," she said lazily, "I'll bite. But if you're as bad as you claim, and I end up looking like a burnt piece of toast, you're switching seats next time."

@Ula TakahashiStudents around them had already started casting spells, while June was occupied by the smirk on the girls face. She searched the girl's face with a faint smirk quite like her classmate. She shrugged. "Hey, I know my strengths."
Her face was calm while her head was screaming 'oh my god?????' 'that smirk???' 'that tone???'
She laughed, sometimes i think the sorting hat messed up a bit." She fingered her wand in her hand and glanced around the room. This would actually be an awful time for her to not cast correctly. What if she made a mistake and hurt this girl?
fingers crossed.
She tilted her head. "I'm more of a sports person, anyways." Suddenly she wondered if maybe this girl had seen june play while she was still on the ravenclaw quidditch team. A part of her hoped the answer was yes.
"I'm Juniper. But you can call me June or J." Please use a nickname she hoped.
Somehow she had forgotten why she was talking to this girl. Right, spell casting. The girl's remark brought her back to attention. She laughed slightly. "Bet. I promise I won't brun you to the crisp"
She leaned back in her chair, being careful not to stare. Then she paused. "Um. What spell are we doing?" She asked with an embarassed laugh. "I'm not gonna lie i was noottttt paying attention." Because of you?? No. This was just a friend crush... right?
June didn't like girls! at least, she didn't think so. She's only ever dated guys. But, if this wasn't a crush, what was it? She didn't know quite yet, but whatever it was she wanted to get to know her partner better.

Ula's smirk faded slightly, replaced by an almost unreadable expression as she observed the girl in front of her. The way she moved, the nervous laugh, the way her fingers twitched with that slight tension of wanting to impress. She had a certain air about her that Ula couldn't quite place. Confident enough to joke, but still visibly a little rattled…Interesting.
Looking the girl up and down, she wondered if she'd seen her around before. Maybe some ginger strands flying around on the Quidditch pitch? Not that she cared much for the sport. Ula had never been a fan of chasing a ball through the air on brooms.
"Jupiter," Ula said slowly, her gaze flicking back to Juniper's face, almost like she was testing the name. "Big, bold, and probably causing gravitational chaos wherever you go."
"Jupe for short," she added casually, as though the nickname were already a done deal.
"Ursula Takahashi," she introduced herself in turn, her voice smooth and unwavering. "But I go by Ula."
The class buzzed around them as more students got ready to begin. Ula noticed Juniper glance toward the professor before leaning back slightly in her seat, seemingly unsure of what was happening.
A beat passed, then Juniper spoke up, her tone a little embarrassed, but still light. "Um, what spell are we doing?" she asked with a laugh that almost seemed to cover her flustered moment. "I'm not gonna lie, I was noottttt paying attention."
Ula gave a soft, knowing snort. She shrugged, and before she could say anything more, a balloon passed between them and floated by Ula's face, distracting her momentarily. She turned toward Juniper with a raised brow.
Right. Immobilis.
She reached out, effortlessly grabbing the balloon out of the air with one hand.
"Just try to freeze it before it hits you," Ula said, her voice cool but teasing.
The class was getting into position, so Ula stood up with practiced ease, giving her hair a casual flip before getting into stance. She looked back at Juniper, her eyes gleaming with a mischievous light.
"I'll let you figure the rest out," she added lightly, clearly enjoying the mystery of it all. "Let's see what you can do."
Ula straightened, wand poised, waiting for the signal. Her smirk was back in full force as she took a step forward, waiting for Juniper to catch up.
