Believe - A Christmas Story

The streets bustled with activity as people rushed to get their last minute shopping done. Hailey was at Betty and Burton's when she noticed something. She had forgotten to run to the grocery store to get milk to make for the cookies. She groaned at her ignorance before running down the street. Hoping she wasn't too late.

She sighed in relief when she realized they weren't closed yet. She ran inside and was surprised to find one last gallon of milk. Exactly what she needed. Hailey thought it was odd that there was only one gallon left. There must have been a crazy rush of people earlier, so they couldn't restock. she thought to herself as she walked towards the check out.

"Doing some last minute shopping again?" Gus, the cashier and family friend asked.

"Yeah. I got so wrapped up in making sure I had all my gift shopping done that I forgot to grab some milk. Hailey lightly laughed."

"You're lucky we still have milk. It seems like everyone wanted the same thing as you." Gus responded.

Hailey was shocked at his response. She didn't realize how crazy things were tonight. That just made things more unusual. She wondered what caused people to got frantic. It's not even Christmas Eve for two more days! Hailey shook her head.

"I guess people are a little too eager to get everything done tonight." Hailey said to him as she left.

"Have a Merry Christmas! And tell your family I say hello!" Gus waved as I left the store.

I waved back as I headed back out into the cold. Eager to see what awaited me when I finally got home!

Believe - A Christmas Story
The streets were still busy by the time I made it home. Lights lit up the houses around us and cars drove lazily around. At least this part of town wasn't busy. Then it would have been a lot harder to get home. I breathed in the smell of delicious Christmas dishes, and sighed. This was the life.

Finally I walked inside to find the house bustling. My brother and sister ran right in front of me. Seemingly playing a game of tag. I laughed at the sight of them chasing each other around the house. Christmas was usually the time they did stuff like this. Especially when the whole family is here. They love gathering larger groups, and turning the house into a war zone.

I found my mom in the kitchen making rolls for dinner. She must have had something special planned since I could smell a turkey cooking in the oven. That scent mixed with freshly baked rolls was enough to make my mouth water. I couldn't wait for dinner!

"What's the special occasion? You know Christmas is in a few days, right?" I asked her.

"Yes, dear, I know that. Your father got a promotion at work, so I decided why not celebrate it tonight instead of waiting a few more days." She responded as she gently brushed the rolls with butter.

I nodded in understanding before heading into the living room to watch some TV. Of course, my siblings wouldn't make it easy. They both surprised me with a jump onto my back before tackling me to the floor laughing. I laughed too. Remembering to pay careful attention next time.

"Come on, come play tag with us!" They yelled at the same time.

I sighed. I wanted to play, but I had presents to wrap before eating dinner. Maybe I could finish wrapping, then play with them?

"Sorry guys. I have to wrap your presents before dinner. Hey, maybe if I get done early, we can have a war of tag." I told them before walking to my room where the presents were.

"Okay!" They both said before running after each other again.

I smiled and shook my head as I continued my trek to my room where I would wrap their presents for Christmas.
