You had to squint to see it: that glimmer in the grass like a coin in the rainy street. But Maisie was an explorer and she knew that you had to be on the lookout for anything suspicious. She'd come out to the grounds that day for a little walk. As much as there was to see inside the castle, there was so much here too. And the fresh air would do her good.

She'd hadn't been looking for anything like this. And perhaps that was why it was so strange. Why on earth would someone leave something as beautiful and unique on the ground, in the dirt, as a tiara? It looked expensive—like something one of mum's clients would wear for something fancy like a wedding or a feast. Surely such an object was completely out of place here, on school grounds.

Maisie spent several minutes crouched nearby by, staring down at it. She wished she knew a spell or something that might give her more information or be able to identify it. But she hadn't been here very long and she didn't know very much of anything. With limited options, there was only one way to know more: to put it on.

Gingerly, she lifted the crown onto her head and waited for something to happen. But it didn't—not right away at least. She must have sat there for several minutes. But then slowly, she felt herself start to hum a jovial tune. And soon, humming wasn't enough; she began to sing gently to herself. Hitting the high notes, she'd close her eyes. Opening them, she realized she wasn't alone. In the trees, she could clearly make out robbins and other birds.

What a wonderful feeling.
For @Emma Milanes and her tiara.

Retracing her steps, the brunette scanned the castle halls, her head jerking left and right as she peered inside open classrooms. With her palms in her pockets, Emma descended the magical staircase and heaved a sigh. Her birthday present to Kiki, her younger cousin, was lost. Rather, she'd lost it after giving it a test run. After a short-lived trip to Hogsmeade, she quickly settled on a pricey, enchanted tiara.

Simply put, the teen wasn't very fond of animals, the magical and Muggle sort. Sure, the Hills had owned a clumsy golden retriever, but Archer the Puppy wasn't her responsibility, it was Kiyana's. With their need for constant care and their uncontrollable behavior, she'd quickly learned from Care of Magical Creatures that she was not fit to look after anyone, or thing, else. She was still trying to navigate her own life, barely providing enough care for herself. More responsibilities weren't on her shopping list.

Truly, Emma was an organized person. It was one of the few traits that placed her in Ravenclaw. Yet, here she was, running throughout the grounds. She was no better than a headless Niffler searching for gold. "Stupid piece of metal," she muttered to herself, kicking up the loose gravel beneath her shoes. Black sneakers collided with the Earth, one step after another. There was so much on her mind, how could she lose something that wasn't even hers?

Passing the chatter of a group of second years, the girl pivoted on her heels and made a beeline for the castle. She spun, but not before catching a small glimmer in the vicinity. Wait, she told herself, immediately stopping in her tracks. The Ravenclaw picked up the pace, walking in the direction of the brief light. As she approached, her brows furrowed and brown eyes met the girl with her possession. Her steps were naturally silent, but more so, muted by nature's ambiance. While she should've been angry to see the tiara in another's hands, a rush of relief relaxed her muscles.

"Hey!" The brunette called out over the girls singing. Anxious eyes scanned the scenery as animals of all sorts began to approach the younger girl. As she stepped in the direction of the girl, birds and squirrels turned into bowtruckles and fairies. Emma quickly stopped in her tracks, drawing her wand by instinct. "Whoa --hey!" Raising a shaky voice, her eyes met with those of the acromantula... all eight of them.

It was like a dream, an out of body experience watching the animals come out of the woodwork and feeling her body—no, her spirit—lighten with ease. Maisie had no idea what was happening; she only knew it was perfectly delightful. She was swept up in it: humming and singing. Even a little twirl came naturally as her robes billowed around her.

So, it had to be the voice—"Hey!"—that disturbed her. The first was difficult to hear over the sound of her own voice and rustle of nature around her. But the second time, the voice was filled with something different: fear. And that was caused her misstep just enough as she was coming out of that twirl to fall.

Still humming, she pushed herself up from the ground and that's when she saw her: another girl, older, and a very, very large spider. She felt herself swallow. Animals had always been a draw for Maisie, but the ones she gravified towards tended to be cute and cuddly—like the rabbit she kept up in Ravenclaw tower—not like this. Inside, Maisie could feel it—she wanted to help and run, but there was something about this feeling that made her just be like this was how things were supposed to be with nature in harmony. After all the creature hadn't struck out at the older girl—yet. Maybe it was just being friendly. Because everyone was friendly in song.

Thereby, the more natural instinct to reach for her wand didn't quite come through—at least not in an offensive way. Instead, she moved towards the scene, lighting a quick Lumos as she approached. It was not the brightest light by any means—she was much more concentrated on singing than spellcasting. If you could even call it 'concentrating.' It was more like going along with things naturally.

"Hello. I'm Maisie," she greeted the girl, with the crown still atop her head. "Who's your friend?" Because in the feywild, we were all friends, connected by song and dance and joy. It didn't matter what you looked like—if you were cute and cuddly, or if you had eight eyes. Under the guise of the crown, all nature was wonderful and all nature was drawn to her, even if she didn't realize it.

Such was the power of magic.
