After months of avoiding duelling, this lioness had decided it was finally time to pick up that wand and stand on the piste once more. While she had a duel before which was against her cousin, Astra, she only did that as they were family and not because she was back to her ways of seeking opponents and duelling anyone that she thinks would be a good challenge and would give her experience. She swore she won’t be taking part in any duels again until she got better but the more she avoids it, the more restless she gets, the more it draws her in. While she had joined broom racing to fill that gap that was left there by her previous sport, it wasn’t enough sometimes. It felt like something was missing. And that’s when she tried applying for co-captain when it opened. She can push it away all she wants but duelling has already become a part of her that she can’t erase no matter what.

Surprisingly enough, she got the position despite how awful her duelling streak was. But thanks to that, she could continue with her plan of being an observer and learning from different duel scenarios. If gaining experience through duelling wasn’t doing it for her, then perhaps just being a watcher and taking notes would work or so she thought but something changed her mind, something that urged her to pick up that wand of hers and start fighting again for that experience.

That incident back in Hogsmeade. That was a long time ago yet it feels so fresh in her mind. Closing her eyes, she could still see the scene that they saw. Those who got hurt and those who never made it. It pissed her off, much more when she read what happened. That made her more aware of the true dangers in this world, at Hogwarts, dangers that could threaten not just her but her friends as well, dangers that they might be forced to survive someday. Evelynn warned them and she just experienced it. Seeing Zach’s tears flowing from his cheeks that time had made her resolve even stronger.

If she could, she’d like to prevent that and to do so, she must get stronger. While this method never worked for her as far as she could remember, it was one of the only ways she knew to gain the fighting experience that she needed. She’s still desperate, even more so now as she is willing to put more work into it than what she was doing before. Perhaps that is why she had agreed for this duel. She was rusty, that she will admit, she might lose here considering her luck but this would be a good start, whether she wins or loses and besides, she will be helping out someone by giving them an actual duelling experience. A beginner versus a returnee. “Now then… let’s get started. Wands at the ready.” Raizel said with a grin.

Evening, 10 November, 2024...

Prat watched the duel with keen interest. His eyes observing both Rai and Evpraksiya as they duelled. Rai's wand movements were swift and precise yet not her best aim as she cast Ventus, sending a gust of wind spiraling towards Evpraksiya. "Nicely done, Rai" was Prat thought, but perhaps he thought too soon as before he could even finish how impressed he was of the spell. It missed it's mark, dispersing harmlessly towards the side.

"Damn, that was close. Rai needs to work on her aim", Prat mused like an elderly with no experience. Evpraksiya on the other time did not waste any amount of time as she swiftly raised her wand. Casting Verdimillous, following which a flurry of green sparks shot towards Rai. The spell hit Rai right at the intended target.

Prat couldn't help himself but be impressed by Evpraksiya's skill. For a first attempt, she did kind of nail it. He watched as Rai staggered to find her bearing as the effects of the spell took their toll. Prat’s gaze was now a mix of concern and curiosity about how Rai would respond.

Seeing Rai miss with Ventus spell tugged at Prat's heart, he had quite lived the similar tale to tell. He knew she had the skill from what he had heard around the castle about her. It was probably a matter of shaking off the rust from her dueling break. It's understandable. A bit of rust is normal after a break. One round doesn't define neither your abilities nor your skills. Resolving not to judge Rai too harshly. Everyone could have their off days, and he still believed in her potential, as much as he could without being biased. She might just need to find her rhythm again.

Prat continued to observe the duel, as he rooted for both duellists to give their best and hopefully learn from the experience. This was just the beginning. They'll both come out stronger from this. He thought to himself.

Aside from her horrible luck that never left her it seems, there's also the fact that she is not in duelling shape anymore. While she still practices her spellcasting, shown by her skill in doing so with that wind jinx earlier, her aim is… yes, questionable. It should've been easy to point the wand at your target and shoot the spell but that didn't happen. While she was of course frustrated by the outcome, it didn't last, accepting the fact that she is lacking duelling skills right now. Isn't that why she's here anyway? To regain what she lost that she will need in the future? To whip herself back to the way she was before, the crazy duellist who duels anything that moves.

To add more to her misfortune, her opponent… wait, what was her name again? Anyway, her spell hit. Green sparks and Merlin, that was so bright. It was enough to make her flinch, close her eyes and shake her head. Blinding but no matter, surely she'll find a way out of it… hopefully anyway. What spells does she have to counter it? What should be her action next? That is what's going on in her mind. This sense of urgency, to quickly decide your next move before it's too late. It should be enough to rattle someone, perhaps even send them into a panicked state but Raizel is no stranger to this sense. Yes, she had been hit but things are just getting started and panicking would just lead to more mistakes right? Gotta keep her mind calm which she hopes she could still do.

This reminds her of that time in Hogsmeade, where one needed to act fast, decide the best course of action in such a limited time frame. If she could do it that time where there was a higher risk, surely she can do it in this friendly duel.

Evening, 10 November, 2024...

Prat watched as the duel progressed with Evpraksiya, the childish snake casting Tarantallegra. Her spell hit its mark perfectly, while Rai on the other hand went on to cast Metelojinx at the same times as Evpraksiya. Prat couldn't help but be impressed by Evpraksiya's precision, for an year one that was quite well. Well enough to kidnap scout her for the slytherin duelling team.

Upon Rai's successful cast of her spell, the room above Evpraksiya filled with a sudden raincloud, adding an extra layer of challenge for Ev. Prat admired Rai's quick thinking. Nice counter, he took a mental note, recognizing the lion's effort despite the chaotic situation she found herself in.

Rai however couldn't avoid Evpraksiya's spell even after she tried. The moment spell hit, Rai's legs began to betray her, moving in a rhythm beyond her control. To Prat's surprise Rai began dancing ballet, her movements surprisingly graceful no matter how involuntary.Prat felt a mix of emotions, prime among them the admiration for Rai's impeccable ballet and it's unintentional grace under the spell's influence.

He knew that both the duellists were giving it all they had, and he couldn't wait to see what their next steps would be. Keep it up, Evpraksiya, he thought, and hang in there, Rai. You've got the spirit to turn this around.

Aside from her aim, there is a problem with her dodging capabilities. It had always been that way with spells after spells hitting her in every duel. The only time her dodging skills worked was during her last official duel where she had managed to at least survive it until all that was left was their teammate who didn't do anything at all to help them. She stood there like an idiot.

Remembering that is giving her nothing but frustration and that could get worse combined with the fact she was hit by her most hated spell, Tarantallegra. But she kept her cool or at least, trying to. With that successful cast of Metelojinx, perhaps there is still hope in this duel that she swears isn't giving her any chances in seeing the bright side, that she could return to it after her break. It's like she had been cursed to be unable to strive in the said sport as she is given nothing but misfortune when it comes to it. It was as if duelling is on her grandmother's side, supporting her views of Raizel not being to excel in it and that she's just nothing but a Half-blood failure.

Perhaps that's a sign for her to stay away. She had done it before after all but she couldn't just resist its calls and if she wanted to answer it, then she better find a way up that thick wall that blocks her path to success no matter what, to break it down into pieces with her own hands. More strength, more powerful spells. She can't let one duel bring her down and she still has a chance to turn this around.

Evening, 10 November, 2024...

Things were seemingly looking better for Evpraksiya in the second round. An opponent already under a debuff spell would be an easy picking for anyone duelling. However for Evpraksiya, her opponent was a well seasoned duellist who had graced the club's hall with her presence for quite a number of times. Something that was reflected in her graceful steps as Rai easily managed to Dodge Evpraksiya's Tarantallegra again. Prat wasn't sure how good of a strategy it was to use the same debuff twice. He had never needed to resort to such tactic and was quite excited to see what the outcome would be. Sadly for the Snake duellist who attempted the same spell again, Rai managed to dodge while sending a rictusempra of her own. The dance, while to Rai's merit quite fun to look at, also seemed to have greatly reduced her aiming capabilities as it missed Evpraksiya by a huge margin.

Round two of this duel was sort of a dud in Prat's eyes, but that was perhaps the overexposure of this young lad to extremely violent spells. In any case, he wondered if this was the so called Round 2 curse where things seemed to always slow down as described by other duellists. While not a bad strategy none of these duellists chose to buff themselves, except they both were just bad aims.
