Steep dreams are made of tea
Early November '24
Mid-Afternoon, about 3pm
Hunched over a teacup, brows knitted in frustration, Sage attempted to identify the clump of leaves splayed against the porcelain cup. Merlin, she could barely make out a shape… She glanced at the page of illustrations in her book, but nothing seemed to match.
Suffice to say, she had no talent for Divination at all. Sage preferred to deal in absolutes - subjects like Transfiguration and Charms, even Potions, were tethered in practicality and never left to interpretation.
The third-year Gryffindor has never had to notice the remains of her tea before, nor did she have any reason to; she drank it merely for the caffeine, not infer her luck from it or whatever. Ugh.
With a sigh, the dark-haired girl leaned back on an elbow, her attention drifting elsewhere as the earthy aroma of brewed green tea rose up in the air.
Her pale green eyes landed on her seatmate whom, it would seem, has been quiet for some time. It took her a moment to recognize her partner for today's Tessomancy class. Looking at them now, their poise and stylish silhouette reminded Sage of someone she once had been close to.
Even so, Sage couldn't help but feel intimidated - the seemingly unapproachable girl before her exuded a gut-churning presence. It made her think of dark clouds encroaching upon a sunny afternoon - nothing malevolent, just… odd. Stop it, intoned Sage as she shook her head shamefully. She knew better than to judge one by appearances.
So, before she could stop herself, Sage blurted out a string of semi-coherent sentences.
"You're Ara, right? I'm Sage." began the girl, glancing nervously at her cup as she thumbed aimlessly through the pages of her textbook. "Not sure what it is we're supposed to see here. I mean - it doesn't look bad. Um, I'm sure it's nothing bad. How's yours looking?"
