A ball of the purebloods
Date: The evening of Friday November 8th, 2024 (the start of the first exact weekend of the school year)
Location: A luxurious wizarding hotel within London.
Dress code: Black tie, everyone is expected to look their never best. There is no over dressing for this event.
The ballroom sparkled with floating golden lanterns that reflected off of the shiny dance floors surface. The tables around the outside were lined with bite sized food and lots of drinks. There were plenty of deserts, including some from diagon alley. Be careful not to drop the cups though, as they are all made out of highly decorative glass. There wasn't any seating within the main part of the venue, but their was some in the neighboring room which was much less decorative, and likely to be mostly empty throughout the night. In the place of seating in the main venue was high top tables that any first years attending may need heels to be comfortable reaching.
Ooc note: non-purebloods may join but they may face IC consequences such as being thrown out or publically shame.
Any pureblood family with children currently attending Hogwarts received an invitation to this ball. If a student is old enough to attending without parent escort, which for this event is sixteen, they would've received an invitation themselves. The invitation reflected the black tie nature of the event, being written in the neatest possible handwriting and decorated with a dotted border.

Avery walked into the ball with her father. It was beautiful. golden lanterns hanging from the ceiling caused the dance floor to seem like it was glowing. Avery had never seen anything so beautiful. Tables were set up on the outside of the dance floor. Each table had its own food or drink Avery was excited to try.
There were already a few people at the venue chatting around. Avery didn't recognize any of her classmates yet, so she followed her father over to a group of older witches and wizards talking. Her dad immediately was introduced along with her. As the adults were talking, Avery decided to go over to one of the tables to see what foods were available.
Once she got over to one of the tables, she was excited to see one of her favorite treats. Chocolate covered strawberries. They were beautiful. There were white chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and others Avery didn't recognize. She quickly grabbed a few strawberries before heading over to where the drinks were.
At the drinks table she recognized a drink that was different than what she had ever seen before. It was a kind of fruit punch made for underage people. She took a quick sip and was amazed at the taste. It was sweet and fruity, but not overwhelming in taste. She liked it, and made a mental note to figure out where it came from.
Once she was satisfied with food. She decided to stand and eat. Awaiting the others to arrive, so she could dance. She had never danced with anyone but her father, so she was eager to see who would ask her to dance, and who she would make friends with.

Outfit description: It’s clear that Poppy’s parents wanted to showcase her overseas heritage. She wore a long dress, with the Lytle family crest proudly displayed in silver embroidery on her shoulder. Her dress itself was a pastel green, a color which reflected the Lytle’s work with nature. The only hint at her Crow line was a silver necklace of a crow hanging delicately from her neck. The other silver she was wearing could be seen as symbols of her mother’s line, but they were subtle. Someone would need to truly know the Crow line to recognize that. Meanwhile the combination of her hair in a hunters bun, the family crest, and an alluding color made her overall appearance scream Lytle.
She entered the ball by her parents side. Although she knew the drill by now. She would be introduced to any families which her parents decided were of great enough importance, then she was expected to go network with any other kids in attendance.
She got a few compliments on how lady like she was from the families she had to greet. They felt more like insults. Thankfully her mother gave her an out, which she politely followed until she was free from adult talk.
She found her way to the food, and saw a girl eating some chocolate covered strawberries alone. Poppy took a plate and a piece of cauldron cake before joining who she asked was a fellow first year.
“Is it odd leaving the castle after being in it for the past two months?” It certainly was for Poppy, but she wanted to make the conversation about the other pure blood, talking about herself was tricky business.

A ball of the purebloods

"Is it odd leaving the castle after being in it for the past two months?" A girl behind Avery asked. Avery was surprised and turned around to see a pretty girl around her age wearing a pastel green dress with a symbol embroidered in silver on her shoulder. Avery didn't recognize the symbol at first since she never paid any mind to the different pureblood families. Honestly, she didn't really care about blood status at all. All she cared about was someone's hearShe seemed really sweet so Avery said, "Kinda. It's nice seeing my dad again though. He's over there." Avery nodded to a tall man with brown hair like hers.
"Is it odd for you?" Avery asked since she had seen the girl before. She recognized her, possibly from another class? Maybe from passing in the hall or in the Great Hall? Avery wasn't sure, but she knew she had seen the girl before.
Avery looked around the room. Hoping to find someone else she knew, so she wouldn't be completely lonely. She forgot to ask Joseph during Herbology if his family was attending, so she didn't know if she would recognize anyone.
Avery was, though, excited to talk to this new girl. She was always open to meeting new people. Especially people that are in the same year as her. It's always nice to have someone to talk to. Especially when no one else you recognize is somewhere.

A ball of the purebloods
Weeks prior to the beginning of Hacue’s first year at Hogwarts Hacue’s dad Charles summons him to meet him in the main living room where he could often be found after work. The main living room contained dark crimson furniture supported by a cherry wood frame, a rather large cobblestone fireplace, old paintings of important members of their ancestry, and finally mounted trophies from years of success within the family. “Yes father?” asked Hacue. “Being it your first year at Hogwarts you will be attending the Pure-blood ball” said Charles. Hacue flashes back to when his brothers attended the ball during their time at Hogwarts and all that it entailed. “Do I really have to its just some stupid reason for you and your friends to get together and brag about you kids and how successful blah blah blah?" He said. Charles furiously said “of course you must attend! Events like these are important. The ball is your first chance to make a good impression of yourself. You will meet other pure bloods who will be your future classmates and mentors. Later in life these witches and wizards will become heads of station, professors, and respected dignitaries within the ministry." Hacue let and an exhausted “fine” knowing that his father wouldn’t change his mind. “Good now we will go to and get you the proper attire”.
The Friday eve before Hacue would start his first year of Hogwarts arrived. Hacue and his father are in a black stagecoach lined with a similar crimson undertone that decorated their house. “Now you must be on your best behavior for this, a lot of important people will be in attendance” said Charles. Hacue merely looked out the window and thought of how he would rather have spent the night roaming the woods that surrounded their house and have an adventure of his own. Finally the stage coach stopped. Hacue and his father stepped out into the cobblestone street in front of an elegant building decorated for the occasion. He and his father are dressed in a matching silvery black suit with a crimson tie matte black shoes and a black undershirt.
As they entered the ball room Charles instantly started greeting old acquaintances from his days at Hogwarts, work, and other pure blood gatherings. They talk about life current events and each bragging about the successes of their kids when instantly Hacue felt a forceful tug at his arm. “And this is my youngest son Hacue, he has shown quite promise at defense against the dark arts” Charles exclaimed. “He has been reading and practicing all summer with his brothers help” as his father goes on he can’t help to drown out the noise while focusing on the floating lanterns.

Unfortunately Poppy couldn’t quite recognize the bloodline the fellow first year was from. They didn’t seem to have any defining clothes on, which made navigating this situation much more difficult than it needed to be.
Then off course the question was turned back on her. She always forgot that people could just do that. Now she had to be careful about her answer. “No, I’ve lived outside of Hogwarts for longer than I lived in it.” It felt like a fair answer to give.
She also figured pointing out where her parents were would be good. Not literally pointing, that could be considered rude by some of the bloodlines here. However, she gestured to the table her parents were currently conversing at.“My mom and dad are over there.” Poppy’s dad was wearing a pastel green tux with white trimmings. He had the Lytle crest embroidered on his sleeve but in white rather than Poppy’s silver. It was definitely too far to notice the symbol from where Poppy stood with the other girl. Poppy’s mom wore a tight satin dark green dress that had black trimmings. She had the same necklace on as Poppy to show her Crow line heritage, accept her’s was done in a black metal. That necklace was also too far to notice. However Poppy knowing the details that connected her to her family lines was comforting in a way.

Avery nodded when she saw the girl's dad. She recognized their line as a famous one, but not quite sure which one. She glanced over to where her father was talking a boy with slightly brown hair and blue eyes. She gestured for him to come over. He didn't seem happy to be where he was, so Avery wanted to invite him to chat.
Then Avery turned her attention back to the girl. "I'm sorry that I didn't ask this before, but what's your name?" Avery asked. She was curious about the girl, and was hoping they may become friends.
As Avery waited for a response from the girl, she glanced around at the room. She was amazed at how beautiful it was. She couldn't even remember the last time she had been to a ball. Her mom was always busy and never had the chance to take Avery to balls. That's why Avery jumped at the chance to attend this ball when her father offered. It was finally a time that she was able to interact with wizards and witches her age instead of muggles.
Avery wondered what her mom was doing now. She rarely got to see her mom, and the times she did, she wasn't like she used to be. The last time Avery saw her, she was very quiet and seemed focused on something. She didn't even realize that Avery was talking to her when Avery asked her if she was working on her birthday. She was saddened at the thought, but it's no time to reflect on the past. It's now the time to see the present.

A ball of the purebloods
While staring blankly at the ceiling trying to count the sparkling golden lanterns staying disengaged from the conversations his father and his friends were having about some boring conversation about a coworker he felt as if someone was watching him. Not shaking the feeling he to look around the room nonchalantly.
Running his fingers through his hair and scratching the back of his head he noticed two girls relatively close to his age one in a red dress and the other in a sort of green with decorative silver. He noticed the girl in the red dress appeared to be waving him over, unsure he looked around to see if there was anyone else that she could be summoning. Not seeing anyone else he thought of a way to exit his father’s overly drawn out work conversation which he hasn’t paid much attention too. Thinking of an excuse he tapped his father’s arm and said “I think I’m going to get something to drink, is there anything I can bring you?” His father merely waved him off and continued his story.
Going to the edge of the ball to the refreshments he thought to himself “do I know her? Perhaps from a class, or one of these other meetings.” Once Hacue arrived at the table he grabbed what looked like a mixture of Pomegranate and pumpkin Juice and took one final look over at the two girls. He took one final deep breath and exhaled “well let hope she was calling me over because if not this will be awkward” he thought to himself.
As he approached the two girls he noticed one wearing a silver neckless with a crow on it and the other remembering her face from around the Gryffindor commons. He finally arrived at the group and introduced himself “Uh, Hello I’m Hacue Salt. You’re a Gryffindor correct? I think I remember seeing you at the sorting ceremony or possibly in the common room.” He then shifted his head over to the girl in the green dress “I don’t think we had the pleasure, your name?”

The boy approached Avery and Poppy and said, "Uh, Hello I’m Hacue Salt. You’re a Gryffindor correct? I think I remember seeing you at the sorting ceremony or possibly in the common room.” then he shifted to Poppy and said, "I don’t think we had the pleasure, your name?”
"Nice to meet you, Hacue, I'm Avery Gray. And, yeah, I'm a Gryffindor too." Avery responded politely to the boy named Hacue. She was surprised that she had never seen him before because he looked vaguely familiar to her. Maybe she had passed him in the halls of Hogwarts? Or maybe they shared a potions class? Either way, Avery wasn't sure. He seemed bored by something so she asked, "How are you liking the ball so far?" Avery was excited to finally go to a ball. Even though she would much rather be running around and exploring the woods, this was her first ever formal night. Which is why she was so excited to participate.
Avery nodded over to the man Hacue was standing with before coming over and said, "He's your dad, right? You seemed bored with him, so that's why I invited you over." Avery didn't know how he would react. She didn't want to start off on the wrong foot with him because he seemed pretty nice. She hoped he would be friendly, so that they could maybe hang out. Avery still didn't really have friends, and she wanted to meet more people, so she wouldn't feel alone.

Hacues blue glossy eyes felt a new life in them as they turned back to their usual dark blue. “Oh thank heavens another Gryffindor I didn’t think I’d actually meet any one here. My father has this thing where he likes to take me to these types of events and show me off as if I’m some trophy. Honestly I’m not sure if he’s proud of me or wants to be me” Hacue said jokingly.
Hacue take a second to take in the surroundings and a sip of his pomegranate pumpkin Juice “yeah the ball is nice enough I guess, beautifully decorated, everyone gets to dress up but, personally it’s not really my thing.” As Hacue looked over at his dad he shrugged “yeah that’s my father Charles he finds it important for me to mingle with our kind, you know pure bloods. He says inherently pure bloods are stronger wizards which I guess I can’t deny. My mother has her own opinions on the subject which isn’t too favorable to my father." Hacue takes a moment to rub his fingers through his hair and ponders. “I suppose mud-bloods can brew a potion just as well as any? I mean it doesn’t take real magic to follow direction and have knowledge of ingredients”
He looks over at Avery and realizes he hasn’t given her a proper thank you from saving him from his father’s incessant blubbering “Thank you for calling me over I don’t think I could take much more of such boring conversation. Do you frequent these events often?”
