Out of the Ordinary
Lilac sat nervously in the back of her parents car. 'Is this real? It must be! My parents wouldn't be driving me to somewhere in my imagination...' Lilac had read all about magical worlds in her fantasy books, but this is more than anything she could have dreamed.
As her father pulled up to Kings Cross Station, he looked anxiously at her in his rear-view mirror. The idea of magic made him uncomfortable, as did any new idea. Her parents had avoided talk about her new school leading up to September 1st. Any time Lilac brought it up, her parents would let her figure it out on her own.
After a few moments to gather herself and her nervous energy, Lilac opened the car door and stepped out tentatively. She would be on her own from this point forward and didn't know what to expect. The ticket read Platform 9 3/4, which didn't make sense to her. She tried looking on Google for information before she left, but couldn't find any traces.
Her father grabbed her heavy trunk and loaded it onto a nearby trolley, while her mother pulled Lilac into a tight hug, wishing her a good year. Shelly Andora wasn't comfortable with the first owl who delivered her letter, let alone more coming throughout the year, so she knew it would be a quiet year of communication from her parents. Her father pulled Lilac into a side hug, gave a quick kiss on the top of her head, and mumbled a few good lucks.
Lilac stared up at the station with wide eyes for a few moments and turned to take one last look at her parents, who had already climbed into their car and started the engine. She knew she was truly alone at that point.
Lilac made her way through the crowded station, with her trolley in tow. Everyone looked busy and like they knew where they were going, and Lilac tried to push away the thought that she would get lost and miss the train.
As she approached platforms 9 and 10, she thought she caught a glimpse of someone walking through the wall. A bubble of excitement rose in her chest as a solution to her problem might have been found. Of course, it would be something extraordinary! Lilac positioned herself in front of the wall, and decided to walk carefully towards it, hoping she wouldn't fail. As she got closer, she started picking up speed and finally burst through, seeing a large red steam engine on the other side...
