Tragedy Strikes Hogsmeade as Carriage Explosions Claim 31 28 Lives

By Gladys Hess, Special Correspondent

HOGSMEADE—In a horrifying attack on 14 October 2024, 31 28 lives were lost in a series of explosions that tore through a gathering of international wizarding schools in Hogsmeade yesterday. The event, meant to celebrate the inclusion of half-breed students into the wizarding community, turned into a nightmare as carriages carrying students and staff were obliterated by magical blasts. The attack has left 46 47 others in critical condition at St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, with 7 people still unaccounted for—including two prominent headmasters.

The explosions, which occurred near the village square, rocked the normally peaceful wizarding settlement, sending shockwaves through the international wizarding community. Damaging several carriages, killing several abraxan and causing minor fire damage to a storefront via unknown, potentially coincidental means. What was intended to be a momentous day for the unity of the wizarding world became one of its darkest in recent history.

The incident claimed the lives of four respected headmasters:

Denbeigh, Headmaster of Tenūsa.
Sónia Alejandra Veritas Duorado, Headmistress of Castelobruxo.
Eugene Monserrac, Headmaster of Beauxbatons.
Marishka Shtriga, Headmistress of Durmstrang.

Additionally, seven individuals, including Lazarus Plott of Ilvermorny and Sato Yura of Mahoutokoro, are missing and presumed trapped beneath the wreckage or possibly lost to unknown dark magic. Search efforts are ongoing, though magical interference has hindered rescue teams.

Forty-six seven others—students and staff alike—are currently receiving treatment at St. Mungo’s, with many in critical condition. Healers are working tirelessly to stabilize those affected, but the severity of the injuries, including magical burns and curse damage, has made recovery uncertain for some. Among them is Natasha Pavlova who despite suffering burns over 80% of their body carried 13 children to safety before she collapsed, she has yet to regain consciousness. Omolara Osoba and Moses Passaris, co headmasters of Uagadou sustained severe injuries during the second blast attempting to shield several students. While they appeared fine when first responders came to the scène, both had suffered concussive injuries from shrapnel and potentially dark magic that had resulted in severe internal bleeding that may be lethal. They are both in critical care at this time but remain conscious for the time-being.
Attack in Broad Daylight: Unanswered Questions
By Harrison Black, Special Correspondent

The explosions occurred in quick succession, taking everyone by surprise. Witnesses report seeing several carriages detonating in a fiery blaze, sending debris and shrapnel across the square. One student, who narrowly escaped the blast, described the scene as "complete chaos."

"I saw Headmistress Shtriga trying to shield some of the students," the witness recalled. "But the explosion... it was like nothing I’ve ever seen. She didn’t stand a chance."

As of now, the origin of the attack remains unknown, though investigators from the Department of Magical Law Enforcement are focusing on dark magical signatures detected in the aftermath. Headmaster Solomon Lear of Hogwarts was present at the scene and issued a brief statement, saying, "This was a deliberate and calculated attack. We will not rest until Plott who is absolutely responsible is brought to justice."

Plott refers to Headmaster Lazarus Plott of Ilvermorny. A celebrated, celebrity headmaster from the Americas. He is among the missing and critics believe that Headmaster Lear is using this tragic event to defame his former rival.

Though initial speculation points to radical elements within the wizarding world opposing the recent inclusion of half-breed students, no group has yet claimed responsibility. There are whispers that dark forces may have been behind the attack, perhaps linked to ongoing tensions within the community.

The event in Hogsmeade had drawn international attention due to the recent reforms requiring the integration of half-breed students into wizarding schools. While some institutions have embraced this change, others—particularly from more traditional and conservative factions—have resisted. Rumors had already been circulating about heightened tensions among the schools, with multiple headmasters expressing concerns about the security of the event.

"We knew something was wrong," admitted Eugene Monserrac, headmaster of Beauxbatons, in a statement prior to his death. "There has been unease growing for months, but we never thought it would come to this," Solomon Lear added in a heartfelt interview.

As investigators comb through the wreckage, questions are being raised about the security surrounding the gathering. How were such powerful explosive spells cast without detection? Who orchestrated the attack, and why?

Officials from the Department of Magical Transportation are also investigating how the explosive enchantments bypassed the protective wards surrounding the village and got inside the carriages owned by Beauxbatons. Given the scale of the attack, there is speculation that inside information may have been involved.

"We are investigating all possible leads," said Auror August VanCleaf, leading the task force on-site. "But I assure you, the safety of the wizarding community remains our top priority. We will bring those responsible to justice."

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.
