If there was one thing Delaney enjoyed least during her time at school, it was sitting with her house during feasts. Something about it just felt off; as if she stood out in a way only she could feel. Green wasn't her color, cold and brash definitely wasn't her personality, and— Okay, maybe she was a little brash. Slumped against her table, the small red head poked lazily at a mixture of shepherd’s pie. Bad manners, arguably. Poorly plated and even more poorly received, the meal held little interest altogether. Should anyone of asked, she'd chalk it up to not being hungry. Partially true, though the dull atmosphere never helped.

Still, that wouldn't stop her from trying to find appeal. Emerald eyes idly traced the scene— spotting a pair of students whispering excitedly, and further down, a group of older boys discussing what seemed to be winning the house cup. Alas, nothing too out of the ordinary. With a glance to her left, she quickly did a double take.

Her gaze fell upon a head of dark, tousled hair sitting adjacent; wearing an expression that could only be described as disinterested. While he didn't say anything, no frowns or sighs— his face remained fixed on his plate as if to avoid any interaction. That, or the kid was just painfully dismal. Either reality, the first year's curiosity piqued. Were all Slytherins this gloomy?

Raising an eyebrow, Delaney stifled a grin. “Y'know, if you glare at those peas any harder they might actually fight back.” She pointed with a gentle swish of her fork, tone carrying a twinge of amusement. “Though I’m not sure that'd be fair.”

The slog of second year had already been seeping into the young snake and it had barely been a month. The new first years already had been grating his nerves with their incessant questions and otherwise general cluelessness. Was he like this last year? Surely not... Uly fumbled his way forward a majority of last year and he vowed that this year would be securely on the tracks for at least the first semester. At the very least, he actually liked his roommate this year and wasn't dorming with someone who spoke barely two words to Uly during their entire school year.

All in all, Ulysses kept to himself as he figured out his responsibility as a second year. He could not have a repeat of this summer where he was on house arrest for abysmal grades and an even more overbearing mother who only cared about appearance and praise by association. It had gone so far that his father had bribed him for a second broom to go to this ball, which sounded less thrilling than watching attempting to call their brooms to them.

With his heads up in the clouds, Ulysses Drake had been thinking hard about his mistakes in the last Quidditch game against Ravenclaw and how he was going on his very first date in a couple of days until he heard a noise that pierced through his thoughts like a bludger through the sky.

His face scrunched up and with a mouth agape, his look questioned if this first year really wanted a go at him, especially unprovoked. " Happy to give them to you if you're so interested in 'em. " Uly offered a snide remark as he took in the other's features, ginger hair, mousy build, nothing too remarkable about the girl in front of him other than her audacity. " If you're so bored, i'm sure your teachers would give you more homework or something. " Little shit, she'd learn soon enough Ulysses Drake wasn't someone to casually mess with.
