All the shopping had been done, he got everything that he needed. His wand, robes, books, and everything else an eleven year old wizard could possibly need. Aaron had told him that he was missing something though. Ollie looked at him like he had three heads. “You're joking.” He looked down at the list that had been issued out to him and every other first year. Alongside the acceptance letter. “See,” He put the letter under Aaron’s nose. “We marked everything we have, everything is marked!” He told him firmly, he made sure he had everything. Less he shows up missing something. That would be very embarrassing.

Well this one is needed, even if it’s not listed.” Aaron told his brother, shoving his arm away from his face. “You can think of it as a ‘welcome to Hogwarts’ gift. From me, to you.” He told Oliver as he folded the list up and put it in his pocket, where it sat for most of the trip.

Oliver rolled his eyes. “If it was needed it would have been listed.” He said with a small huff, he hated when things were not stated as being needed. “But if you insist on a gift,” Ollie held his hand out, not really pointing at anything. “Then please, lead the way.

And boy did Aaron lead, with an almost evil smirk, the older boy took Oliver’s open palm and dragged him through the streets of Diagon Alley, weaving through the wizards and witches, some going to their jobs, others doing shopping like the two boys had been. They bumped into quite a few people as they basically ran to whatever place Aaron was leading him to. Neither of them apologized. Ollie caught a glimpse of his parents standing in line with their younger siblings at the ice cream parlor. It was a hot day, he felt a little envy, and disappointment as Aaron dragged him past the parlor. Perhaps the two of them could get some once they leave. That would be great.

Soon they stopped, Right in front of a store. One that Oliver had only seen in passing, he had never been allowed inside before. Always told when he was older he would be allowed in. Oliver’s face lit up, Aaron finally let go of his hand. “Really?” He asked, turning to his brother, tone light and happy. Aaron smiled to, and nodded.

I asked mum and dad, and they thought it was time.” He said this as he went and held the door open. Motioning for Oliver to go inside. “You get one pet, any one that you would like.” He told him as Oliver sped past him, looking at the pets in the window. Adorable fluffy bunnies, and pink and purple pygmy puffs.

Aaron trailed after him, following behind as Ollie looked at everything he could. The sound of all the animals was almost overwhelming. Almost. The hoot of the owls drew Ollie’s attention to the wall. He looked at all the options, some old, some young. Large and small. “Wow..” He said looking at them all, an owl would be very useful in sending letters back and forth with his family. But he wasn’t sure if he wanted that as his pet.

No, an owl wouldn’t suit him. He wanted something he could cuddle up with. Something he would be able to bring in the dorms. He walked away from the owls, though was still looking at them, and he almost ran into a container with a spider. Though Aaron caught him by the back of his shirt before he ran into it. “Watch where you're going Ollie!” He told him with a small laugh.

Right, sorry.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck, looking at the spiders, and the label on the cage. Black webber. It was kind of cute. He was never really scared of spiders, or bugs at all. “What about-?

Aaron cut him off. “No way. Alice will freak, she hates spiders. Remember that?” He asked, raising an eyebrow, Oliver sighed. Shaking his head. And muttered something about Aaron lying about any pet he wanted. Not everyone was as bug accepting as him. He walked away from the spiders too. And didn’t bother looking at the rats or toads. They just didn’t feel right, though it sounded weird. He glanced at the fish tank. And just walked past it. A fish was a good house pet, not a really great Hogwarts pet.

He walked almost to the other side of the store. Were the really interesting things were. What would have the best chance of accompanying Oliver in his journey. The really fluffy stuff, Rabbits, Cats, and Pygmy Puffs. “What about these guys over here?” He asked with a light playful laugh as he reached over to pet a purple pygmy. It was just as soft as he imagined it would be.

Oliver could see Aaron shake his head from the corner of his eyes. “Yes, ‘these guys’ are fine.” Ollie thought so. Just needed to make sure. He pet the puff, with it squeaking fondly. Oliver laughed a little, god it was just the cutest thing. But he wanted to make sure he saw everything he could choose from. Before he made his final decision.

He walked past the rabbits, though begrudgingly so. They were so cute, and looked insanely soft. The cats just drew him in, and like the owls, all had different colors and ages. He walked over to where they were. And most of them ran right over as they saw the boys approach. “Eager little fellas.” He muttered under his breath. Watching as they all looked up at him, meowing up at him. How was he supposed to choose?

Aaron came over and looked down at the cats as well. Standing right next to Oliver. The tricky part of picking a pet was he needed one that would match him well. One that he would have the time to take care of, perhaps one that would sit with him when he studied or did his homework. He knew of Aaron’s pet Rabbit that almost always needed to be petted. One like that wouldn’t work well for him. If Ollie knew anything about himself, he knew that he would make sure to study. So he didn’t fall behind, get and keep an O average. He needed a relaxed cat.

And he was pretty sure he spotted it.

A very cute orange one that was one of the few cats that didn’t run up when they saw the two boys walking over. This cat was laying down, its head raised and tilted in curiosity. Oliver knew this one had to be his. He reached into the container and let the cat sniff him. It seemed to like Oliver, and it even butted its head against Oliver’s hand. Letting the boy pet it between its ears, with a meow. “This one, This is the one I want.” He told Aaron, picking up the cat in his arms. There was no protest from the cat.

Aaron nodded, And stood up from where he had been leaning on the kennel. “Looks like a good cat.” He told Oliver with another nod. Though the boys attention was fixed on the cat in his arms. Aaron shook his head, a fond smile playing on his lips. “I’m going to go get food and what not, if you want to get toys and maybe a collar for the little guy.” He didn’t wait for Oliver to respond before walking off and questing the shop owners about what would be the best treats for a cat.

The cat, Oliver found out was a boy. And he had yet to choose a name. It needed to be perfect. For now, he called the cat, well, the cat. He held the cat in his arms, and started to look for a collar that would match his fur well enough. Or something that would just be right. He had settled on a pure white collar, and the cat seemed to agree with this. As when Oliver held it up for him to inspect, he got a meow of what he assumed to be approval.

The toy’s were simple, he avoided any rat or mouse shaped ones, less the cat thought it’s ok to chase any other student’s pet rats. He got a few fish shaped ones though, as really, who all would have a pet fish? And some with catnip in it. Hoping he wouldn’t come to regret that.

Once they got everything, and after Aaron talked the shopkeeper's ears off about his years at Hogwarts, and asked a thousand questions about pets and animals in general. They paid, and the lady that smelled like sugar cookies thanked them for their purchase and told them when his new cat was born did they leave.

Ollie would not decide on a name for the cat until a few days later. He tried to find something that would fit the cat well, that was simple and easy. Yet mature. “Otis?” He tried, as he had been sitting on his bed, the cat had been chasing its own tail, but had looked up when he said Otis. “Otis.” He confirmed with a nod, It fit him well.
