It took longer than Emily thought to realise just how many stones she accumulated over the last several months. What became four, became five and now she had eleven. Still nowhere near as many as some other may have had, but still... Eleven! All for the sake of getting that reassurance of strength, healing and protection. A year later and Emily still didn't feel too confident using a wand for big or small purposes, instead falling back to her Muggle stones that had no magic yet provided a bigger comfort than perhaps some of the most strongest of spells.

It was cold, but sunny when Emily decided to take the stones outside to clean them. Her black tourmaline stone was in dire need of it, having just noticed a scratch mark on the side. It must've absorbed a lot of negative energy in the mere months Emily was at Hogwarts! Her clear quartz, rose quartz, bloodstone and amethyst had been through the ringer as well, cleansing her tarot cards and jostling in her pocket for that sweet feel of healing after those long and arduous classes. Her bloodstone in particular had been a concern after it seemingly failed in rejuvenating Scout's And then the rest; her aqua aura, cherry quartz, red wine agate and a plethora of others, all of which had hardly been used since she got them, needed some freshening up. Charging them in the sunlight, ready to disperse the bad thoughts and feelings wasn't enough to put them into proper practical use; according to "Auntie." To get the best out of them, they needed to be cleansed.

No better time like now to do it. The last month had been a topsy turvy experience; rumour hunting, werewolf revelations, investigation antics... The stones she carried daily ought to have been blackened with overbearing stress and knowledge. A little tune up with some sunshine and floral cleansing liquid will bring them back to tip-top shape. With the glow up, it'll surely help her feel refreshed in time for the upcoming Ball, Casey's arrival and hopefully for the next time Emily would need to cheer up Scout. Although, something inside her was convinced Zyair may have beaten her to it.

Perched at the fountain with all eleven stones in her lap, Emily reached for a corked bottle of Florida Water; generously delivered to her by "Auntie." She dipped a corner of a spare cloth she carried on her into the aromatic water where she took her bloodstone and began rubbing it within the dampened cloth. After a few minutes she placed the newly furnished stone aside into the sunlight, the scent of perfume and flowers emanating from the stone.

One down, another ten to go.

Illowy pulled the collar of the sweatshirt up over her face as she made her way back up to the Courtyard from the Lake, mopping away some of the sweat that still lingered from her run. Time that wasn't occupied by studied or classes or whatever other obligations the day-to-day had in store was often dedicated to a good run. Running had become her favorite outlet over the last couple years; providing some sense of control and peace that she could carve out for herself when everything else felt overwhelming. A taste of escapism never hurt anyone right?

Though, she stepped onto the stone courtyard, her sharp eyes were caught by an underclassmen bent over at the fountain, looking as though she were taking great pains over some task... it looked as though she were cleaning some small object. As she approached, it came into focus the small rocks the girl had all neatly held in her lap as she worked on another in her hand before setting it aside in the sunlight.

The older girl's brow furrowed in confusion, trying to make heads or tails of the task. While she could understand some people, particularly if they came from a muggle background, had a hard time letting go of the muggle method of doing things, she couldn't quite wrap her brain around the task of cleaning literal rocks. Even if they were rather pretty rocks, "What in the world are you doing?" she finally asked. Her tone wasn't harsh or judgmental, but deeply perplexed, if not a little curious.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

It was the first few days of Hogwarts for Hana, she found her favourite place in Hogwarts - the Courtyard, whenever she walked past those ancient bricks on the floor, she felt a great connection between this place and her soul, she felt like this place was like her old friend. Hana always love to go there when she is free to relax her tired body. Usually there is no people in the Courtyard, so Hana always talk about her feelings to the surroundings, hoping that they will give her a reply. Today, Hana, finished all her homework, went to the Courtyard to breathe in the familiar air, she sat down at her usual spot - under the vine on the wall but something caught her eye.

Hana saw a black figure, she was surprised because normally no one is there with her, so she walked slowly towards the black figure. The figure became clearer and clearer as she walks, it turned out to be a girl with long brown hair, light skin and hazel coloured eyes. Hana immediately recognised this girl as a second year Hufflepuff because she saw her quite a lot of times around the school. Around the girl, there are different coloured crystal - "one, two, three... Ah! Eleven!" Hana counted. She wondered why that girl have that much crystal, 'Maybe she has a interest in tarot and fortune-telling,' Hana mumbled. As she observed the girl in a distant, Hana noticed that the girl wiped the crystal with a fine fabric. "What is she doing? Oh yea! Cleaning the Crystals! My mother told me about cleaning crystals before, they help to cleanse the crystal from negative power and filled them with positive power, I guess that's what she is doing!"

Hana continued watching that girl wiping her crystals slowly, after a few minutes, the girl finally took the crystal and put it on her other side. Hana don't really have much friends at school and her parents always tell Hana to meet more friends and be friendly, 'Well, maybe I should help her, should I?' After a few moments, Hana stood up and walked next to the girl, she squad down, admiring the colourful and aesthetic gems, she said to the girl, "Wow! Those gems are beautiful, do you need help cleaning the gems? I am quite bored right now so maybe I can help you." Hana as she waited to her reply, looked at the beautiful lights shone on the floor via the crystals.

Whether it would've been the colourful mixture of beauty of her stones or the enticing smell of the Florida Water lacing the air around her, or simply the curiosity of home brought techniques introduced into a school of magic where its own may have outshined hers, Emily was bound to draw attention one way or another.

As predicted, two students ultimately came over when one of the choice of three - or conversely, all three - drew their glances towards Emily and her stones. One of them much older than her, and another seemingly a bit younger. One of them curious to the point of suspicion perhaps, and the other in awe as she took in the sight of her stones and even going as far as offering to help.

Polar opposite responses that didn't sway Emily when she addressed them with her usual friendly tone, just as she would on any other occasion.

"Oh! Hi...! These are healing crystals. I keep a few of them for self-care," She explained kindly, just as she went to grab her rose quartz and began the same process as before, dipping a fresh coat of Florida Water onto the cloth and began rubbing it onto the stone's surface. What was a slightly dull crystal was now rich in floral scents and glimmering in refreshed light as she set it aside with her bloodstone, already warming up with a healthy glow under the sun's rays.

"I rub them in a little formula..." She gestured to the Florida Water. "... Before I set them out in the sun to charge, to give them fresh, new positive energy. You're both welcome to join me if you like!"

Illowy blinked, piercing eyes flitting between the owner of the rocks, then down to the other girl that had come over, crouching down and offering to help clean them. Lifting her eyes back to the first girl, Illowy crossed her arms at her stomach and shifted her weight to one hip, still searching her mind for understanding over what, in Merlin's beard, this girl was talking about.

Sure, crystals were used sometimes in different potions, like moonstone, crystals balls and whatnot used in divination, and various precious stones borne from magical creatures, all that. However, she'd never heard of rocks being used in healing on their own. Granted, she wasn't the best healer by a long shot, but she liked to think she would know if a rock had healing magic on its own. Even still, what did healing rocks have to do with self-care? And what exactly was the purpose in rubbing some fragrant potion all over them and setting them in the sun? How does the sun give it 'fresh, positive energy'? Its a rock. A pretty rock, but still a rock.

Yet, both girls seemed perfectly enthralled in the care and keeping of this strange little collection, "I..." she hesitated, brow still furrowed as she tried to pick her words carefully, "Poppet... I'm not sure that is a thing. No offense, its a very pretty rock collection, but I've never heard of such a thing. Many minerals have properties used in potions, or jewelry they're mounted in can be enchanted or cursed, but there's very few crystals that are inherently magical in their own right. And I don't know of any that are used on their own for healing." she explained, still trying to understand where exactly the younger witch might've picked up such fancies.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Hana squaded for a moment and realised that she was not the only one who was attracted to the crystals. On the other side of the girl, she saw another student. Based on her appearance, Hana thought that she was an older student, perhaps in the sixth or seventh year. Hana looked back to the first girl, as she warmly welcomed them to invite her, Hana was happy yet excited. Hana replied, ‘Oh thank you! I forgot to introduce myself, I am Hana Suzuki, you can call me Hana, I am a first year student and I just got sorted to Gryffindor. I really like your crystals, where did you buy them?’

Hana, after asking, took out her white silk handkerchief which her grandmother sewed. The handkerchief had a beautiful traditional Japanese flower embroidery, with her Japanese name embroidered on the side. She dipped the soft handkerchief into the aromatic water, the scent was so soft yet good that the smell cleansed Hana’s soul and heart. She understood why the Hufflepuff girl used it to cleanse the crystals. Hana took the rose quartz next to her and rubbed it softly with her handkerchief. After a few minutes, I don't know whether it’s her imagination or not, the stone became clearer.

Hana looked back at the oldest girl, the girl looked concerned and didn’t understand why stones are used for self-healing. Hana replied to her with a friendly smile and tone, ‘Stones such as crystals have a special power. They promote the flow of good energy and help rid your body and mind of negative energy for physical and emotional benefits. Over time, the stones will be filled with negative energy so we need to clean it and put it into the sun to wash away the negative power of the stones so it will work again. I heard this from my mother.’ After that, she continued wiping the rose quartz with her handkerchief and the good-smelling potion.

Emily figured she would attract a few curious glances from some of the other students should they've caught her with those vibrant stones, but she could never have anticipated such divisive opinions on them. Bless the young Gryffindor who took to Emily's side and began helping herself to her stones, following by example with her own handkerchief as she assisted in cleaning up the remaining stones.

The older Slytherin student on the other hand, while not mean-spirited, didn't hesitate to hold back her scepticism. What she was saying wasn't wrong, but at the same time, there was a lot Emily could say to challenge it all. Whether she was right or not was up for anyone's interpretation was a whole other debate though.

Not at all offended, Emily acknowledged the older student's argument with an understandable nod. "True, it might not be like actual magic... These probably don't compare to any actual healing stones... But there's something about them that just provides comfort. I'm not a super expert on the topic, but stones like these are all based on the idea of vibrational energy, where they can channel energy into the body; relax muscles, ease stress, that kind of thing...! So while it's not magic, there's still something in them that passes invisibly into the body."

She took another stone and wiped it down with the Florida Water. "I know there's nothing to really support the theory, much less what I can prove for you right here and now, but I can't help but feel reassured whenever I hold them. I don't know how to explain it... It's just how it feels..."
