The Moores
Task 2A: Worldbuilding
The novel is set in a small village in Chipping Norton. It is a quiet, serene setting, to juxtapose with the chaos and struggles of the Moores internal lives. The village is relatively rural, but not desperately out of the way: it’s close enough to Oxford, as well as some other, smaller towns, so the characters can get to work, uni or school in Ivy’s case without needing to take desperately long commutes. The landscape is mostly rolling fields and farmland, with some small patches of forest. Mostly, the fields are pastures for animals, but there are some where crops are grown. The novel begins in September, with the characters beginning to go back to school and uni (and Harry retiring), and continues until May, with the climax occurring in April, so we see autumn, winter and spring. Climate change makes the weather far more variable then it was in previous years. The novel is set in the modern day, and current events do begin to weave their way into the fibre of the story, especially with Ivy and Gwendolen’s storylines, as both of those have a tendency to worry quite a lot about other people; the tense political climate creates parallels with the struggles of the Moores.

Task 3: Finding Time
I intend to keep to the standard 1,667 as I find that little and often tends to work better for me, and produce better-quality results, when it comes to actually getting writing down. I’ll work in the mornings, as again this is my favourite and most productive time to work, by waking up half an hour earlier and beginning work at 5 AM so I can have it out of the way in time to get ready for school and so on. I have a relatively light workload at school this year, so I’m really hoping to finally complete a Nanowrimo!
