Generating an Idea
(wc: 907)
Shay’s parents get into a divorce, but before they officially separate, Shay’s mom throws herself into work to escape the stressful reality. She works overtime, gets part time jobs, and even finds herself getting raises and promotions. With all this extra money she has made, she decides to get as far away from her home as possible, Los Angeles. Shay has to make the decision of whether she should stay in Edmonton with her dad, where all of her friends are, her school, all the memories she had ever made, or if she should move with her mom. She has always had a dream of living on a nice, beach area in California, and she subtly suspects that’s why her mom selected to live to Los Angeles. Shay could live out her lifelong life dream, with only one change, her dad not being part of the journey. It is a very hard decision to make, but after one bad day, it is the turning point for her, and she tells her mom to buy the tickets, the one way tickets to L.A. She is super nervous for her first day of school, wondering if she’ll be able to make any new friends, and starts to overthink her decisions. Back in Edmonton, she was about to go into her first year of high school, but here in L.A. it will be her “second year”. Going from junior high in Canada straight to sophomore year in the States was pretty scary. Shay tried to play it cool while she introduces herself to her new classmates, and is luckily very successful. The “popular girls” invite her to sit with them and hang out together all day. They start taking about whatever random things, but start to bond the most over hair. Shay decided to do “beach waves” for her first day of school hairstyle, which her new friends seems to really like. They show her around the school and introduce her to everyone. She also gets the chance to meet a boy in her gym class named Miles, who she instantly knows she wants. Shay quickly finds out she will have some competition though, as at least half the girls in the school want him. Once school ends Shay and her new friends explore around her new home and her friend’s houses, and eventually go down to Venice Beach together. She starts to feel sad about leaving her previously forever home, but her friends assure her it will be ok. They do everything they can to make her feel super welcome to the new place. Walking the beach seems so different from everything she has always been used to, but at the same time, it feels good. The next day at school, Shay decides that she wants to be part of the schools cheerleading team, and tries out the next week. To her surprise, she makes the team as a flyer! She also realizes that being part of the cheer team, she will get to see Miles more often since he is part of the football team that they preform for. Miles gets distracted by something he won’t tell anyone what, and his grades start to drop lower than they already are. He gets threaten to get kicked off of the football team if he doesn’t improve in schoolwork. Yet for Shay, life starts to go up as the days go on, living out that dream life of hers. What Shay doesn’t know is that too much of a good thing isn’t always so good. With how well things are going she decides to finally ask out Miles before cheer practice, and she is thoroughly disappointed when he rejects her. Shay doesn’t understand how he said no to her, when everything he did was as if he was madly in love with her. Being a flyer can be super dangerous if you are not 110% focused as her coach always says, and she never understood until that one day. Her mind is in another place, trying to comprehend what had just happened with Miles moments ago, affecting how she preforms. She looses sense of where she is, and goes completely blank mid-flip, and lands on the ground, injuring herself badly. Shay is brought into the hospital, where she is treated for a sprained knee and broken wrist, along with a bad concussion. She spends a few days in the hospital, where many people come and visit her to wish her a good recovery. One of these people happens to be Miles. He gets some alone time with her and uses to apologize and explain himself. He tells her that the he doesn’t know why he rejected her, that he just got scared and didn’t know what to say. Miles tells her about how ever since the very first day he saw her he knew she was the one. They have a heart-to-heart conversation and clear everything up between them. At the end of their talk, before Miles finally leaves her to rest, he tells her how much he would really like to be with her. She accepts and finally they start dating. A few days later, Shay returns back to school, and continues her life almost as it was, with the exception of no cheer or surfing for another few weeks. She manages to heal from her injuries by the time football finals are, and is able to preform in front of the biggest crowd she has ever seen, the crowd she has spent the whole year training to preform for. Using each other as motivation, Shay does amazing in her performances, and Miles carries his team to a victory. The school year ends, and Shay is all healed up, and is able to spend her very first summer in California completely healthy. It is filled with surfing and running about the beach with her friends and boyfriend. Finally living the good life that she has always dreamed of living.

World Building and Character Creation
World Building
(wc: 207)
This story is set in Venice, Los Angles, California. Shay moves into a nice and well kept neighbourhood, and is right by her new school. Her school is only about a 10 minute drive away from her house, and a slightly longer walk, but it makes for a good afterschool hang out place. Her new home is in a nice neighborhood in Venice, only about a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive to the famous Venice beach. The beach is everything she has ever wanted, a boardwalk strip lined with beach shops, sand all around, surrounded by palm trees, and an amazing ocean for surfing. It being set in L.A. also means that the weather is usually pretty warm, and always super humid. Going in the ocean is really helpful to cool off on most hot days, especially in the summer, that’s why surfing is so good! For the most part of the story, it is set during the school year, in the United States, those months are late August to late May. Shay’s new house is quite big too, and being an only child she gets most of it to herself. There’s so many rooms in the house along with having a massive backyard property.
Character Creation
(wc: 223)
Shay- a nickname short for Shayla, who is a new, pretty, kind, girl. She is around the average height, at 5’4, and an average build, yet slightly on the smaller side. She moves to Venice, California at age 15 from Edmonton, Alberta. Back in her home in Edmonton, she was always a very physically athletic person, but never actually being part of any teams. When she moves to Venice, she decides to join the cheerleading team, as a flyer. Shay has long dirty blonde hair, captivating blue eyes, and light freckles along her cheeks and nose. She wears light summery makeup and variations of summery clothes, changing outfits just slightly to mix with the current weather, which is usually quite warm still.
Miles- Born and raised in Venice, California, Miles is a hot, popular, football jock. He, like Shay, is in his sophomore year of high school. He is a nice boy, but very cocky, and can sometimes let all of his friends and amazing athletic abilities get to his head, a typical 15 year old boy. His grades are decent enough to stay on the team, but no where near high. He has middle parted brown hair, and a mix between green and hazel eyes. Miles usually wears t-shirts and shorts, so that he’s always in clothes he can play football in.

Finding Time
(wc: 85)
I will try to write 1,667 words a day, the suggested nanowrimo daily word count, but ideally 11,000 at least per week, whether that is more or less than 1,667 per day. This is for the first two-three weeks, as in the last week or so I tend to write a little bit more as it is nearing the end of the month. My weekly plan (for the most part) is:
Sunday: 2,000
Monday: 1,000
Tuesday: 1,500
Wednesday: 1,000
Thursday: 1,500
Friday: 2,000
Saturday: 2,000
