@Meyra Lancaster | MENTIONINGRavenclaw was not an unexpected sorting, yet Jun felt a little weird sitting among them. The sea of Blue surrounded her in the benches, no familiar face to be seen besides the one of her Cousin, that was hard to spot in the dark red rows. Mey had been sorted into Gryffindor, which wasn’t odd either. She was a strong person with qualities that represented the house she was sorted in. Courages and Brave was most definitely something Jun would describe Mey as, when asked. Regardless of what house they fit in though, she would have wished to be in the same house as Mey. No matter which one it would have been, as long as they were together.
It was weird being so far, yet so close to Mey, after a year of no contact. No letters, no visits, no hugs, no talking, no support from one another. When Jun‘s brown eyes met her Cousin and Best Friend, a small smile spread across her lips. It was good to see her. It would have been even better if they had the option to go to the same dorm after the Welcoming Feast but even without that, they could now live out what they had used to talk about. They could go to lessons together, spend afternoons in the library or on the Grounds, visit Sport Games and run through the halls together. With Mey, Hogwarts would be tolerable. Everything was going to be okay.
As the Welcoming speech finished, Jun shook herself back to reality and away from thoughts of the upcoming years. She was surrounded by other first years that looked like they felt similarly small and unknowing next to the older Students. A different array of emotions was spread across their faces, ranging from excitement to plain confusion. Some looked like they were going to storm up to the headmaster and demand to be sorted into a different house after the feast, while others were already happily chatting and loading up food on their plates. Jun decided to join them too. It had been a long day and some food would surely do good in her tummy.
The Japanese girl was no stranger to different cuisines around the world, as her Parents had always taken great pleasure in trying and sharing all types of traditions around the world. This also meant, Jun had had tons of different dishes in her lifetime. Gladly, the English Cuisine was one she enjoyed. Most of the time at least. Roasted Potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, Gravy, Peas and Carrots filled her plate, creating a well portioned dinner. While this type of food did not feel particularly healthy to her on the most part, it was certainly comforting food. Which was needed on the first night in your new home. „Home“ for as long as you weren’t in your actual home on break.
If Jun had been a bit more social, perhaps she would have tried to start a conversation with someone. Maybe another first year. But for now, she only listened to the other children, chatting and introducing themselves.

EmbarrassedW o r d c o u n t .728 wordsN o t e s .Wrote a lot for this one!The boat rocked slightly over the lake, the only sound was the gentle rush of water on the boats sides. All the first years sat silent, and so did Troy. He was seated with a red-haired boy whom he hadn't talked to. Finally after what seemed like hours, it finally came into view, revealing the magnificent castle. There were collective gasps from first years. Hogwarts stood on the cliffside, overlooking the still waters of the lake. The moons reflection shone over the water, the calmness only broken by the fleet of boats cutting through it. This was simply magnificent. "So this is it. Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. I think I'm going to like it here."
Minutes later, they were all disembarking, one by one they all lined up, in front of the doors. Many whispered, wondering what was on the other side of the doors. Troy knew it was the great hall, where students would gather and eat for the entire school year. ( He had asked his mother about parts of hogwarts ) Time flew by, before the doors swung open, revealing the magnificent room, hundreds of candles floating above the 4 house tables. The enchanted ceiling reflecting the beautiful night sky above them. Troy could feel the eyes of all the students around him. He was used to stares but for the first time in a long time, he was nervous. His eyes fell onto the 3 legged stool, with a patchy hat. After it's song, the sorting ceremony had began.
Students being sorted into their respective houses based on who they were. Of course he had read up on these houses. Slytherin, house of the cunning and ambition, known to have many great, as well as dark wizards. A house that could suit him very well indeed. Gryffindor, house of the brave and selfless, having taken many great wizards, including Harry Potter. Though he had never exactly been the most helpful person out there. Hufflepuff, the house of the loyal and hard working. Hardworking he was, but loyal not so much. His loyalty was always selected and not given out like slips of paper. Finally Ravenclaw, the house of the wise and intelligent, nurturing many famous names over the coarse of history. Well known inventors and leaders. Yes, this one might suit him just as well as Slytherin.
Finally, his name was called. "Lim, Troy!" slowly he walked out of the small crowd of first years left. He sat on the stool, and the hat fell over his head, he was plunged into darkness. He could hear the hat talking, considering Slytherin and Ravenclaw. 3 minutes passed, when finally it had come to a decision. "RAVENCLAW!" Cheers and clapping erupted from the Ravenclaw table before he sat down up in front. He watched along with the rest of the school for the last few students. At last the last of the first years were sorted. The headmaster was going to give his opening speech, when he felt a tap on his shoulder, it was the red haired boy. "Sorry to bother, would you be okay with switching seats with me? I'd like to sit by my friend.. my seats right down there" he said pointing to an open spot. Agreeing, he stood up, head low and walked towards the empty seat.
Beside was a first year he had seen on the platform earlier that day, she was quite pretty, and the other was a 4th year boy with jet black hair. By now the food had appeared on the tables. The smell made his mouth water. Everything looked delicious! He wanted to get started immediately. Troy went to sit down, lifting his prosthetic foot to slide into the seat, but he had overshot a little bit, hitting the table with a bang, making the first year beside him drop a biscuit. It's crumbs on the lap of her robes. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to hit the table.." his cheeks turned rosy, how embarrassing. He took out his handkerchief and helped her clean up. "I'm really sorry, it was an accident!" still embarrassed as he wiped off the remaining crumbs. After cleaning up, he turned to start eating, but realized something that threw him off guard with shock. "Wait a second.. Theres no rice?!? I'm not going to survive the school year" he whined.L A N G U A G E S

@Meyra Lancaster | MENTIONINGA yawn escaped Jun‘s lips as she lazily listened to the other first years talking. Oh how she wished Mey was sitting next to her to talk. The chattering throughout the grand hall created a buzzing hum and only now, Jun took the time to actually realize how large the room was. Her eyes moved from her plate to the enchanted ceiling, which portrayed the night sky with candles flowing among the stars. Jun had always loved looking at the night sky, the moon and the stars. She still did, but now that she could never watch the full moon rise again, there was a certain pain about looking at the sky. It wasn’t the same anymore.
Stopping the neck paining look to the ceiling, the sound of silverware scratching over the plates, kids laughing and eating filled her ears again. She wished she could drown the loud noises out better but she was painfully aware of everything going on around her. Another yawn left her lips and she decided she would have to do something about the exhausted feeling spreading through her little body, but what? Reaching for a biscuit softly and taking a small bite, it suddenly felt like the universe had heard her thoughts. She hadn’t even noticed the movement beside her but a certain someone changed that easily.
The close bang beneath the table caused Juns arm to move with the motion, the biscuit slipping out of her fingers and landing right on her perfectly ironed skirt. In horror, she shortly lost her composure and stared at the spot, destroying her perfect appearance. „Can’t you be more careful? Ruffian!“ Jun‘s Japanese accent slipped right over her lips, just like it always did when she was upset. Her words weren’t spoken loudly but firmly, swatting away the handkerchief of the boy next to her.
Honestly, how was this Boy supposed to get further in Hogwarts if he couldn’t even sit down without causing a mess. She cleaned off the spot with her own handkerchief and dropped the biscuit on a napkin. She sent him a brief, tight smile as he profusely apologized for his mistake. „It is alright, just please pay more attention to your surroundings and be more careful.“ Jun sighed and got back to paying attention to her plate.
After a bit of time, she looked back at the boy next to her and frowned, unnoticeably or at least so she hoped. Why was he not eating? He looked somewhat confused, perhaps he did not know what he should eat, he looked like the type that couldn’t decide what they wanted. Stopping, Jun redirected her attention to him and put her hands in her lap. Her Silverware laid orderly next to her plate.
„You do know the food is not going to stay on the table endlessly? You should probably eat something, it was a long day and you aren’t going to get anything until tomorrow morning. Or are you not feeling well?“ eyeing him up and down, he did not make an unwell appearance. In fact, maybe Jun could even make out the faintest of blush still remaining on his cheeks. „The food is not bad, if that is what you are concerned about,“ trying an encouraging smile, Jun felt like her mother when she was trying to get her to eat natto.

RelaxedW o r d c o u n t .582 wordsN o t e s .Took a while sorry! The Ravenclaw swatted away his handkerchief, making Troy flush a little harder. His jaw tightened as he looked down. "Can't you be more careful? Ruffian!" she had reprimanded him, drawing eyes from the nearby Ravenclaws towards the pair. He had a feeling in his gut advising him that she may be bad news judging from how she had reacted to such a small honest mistake. However he understood her annoyance, who wouldn't be? It was a completely acceptable reaction, he probably would've done the same. He noticed her accent, it was familiar, but he couldn't put the pin on it, but he was sure he had heard it somewhere before. Thankfully, the girl had accepted his apology. He restrained himself from jumping into a long excuse about what happened like he did when he was a kid, in a soft voice he shortly explained what really happened. "It's just more difficult for me to have a seat on these kinds of tables because of my prosthetic, but I should've been more mindful." He gestured towards his prosthetic leg, just visible under his new robes. He attempted to fill the dead air, he'd hate for such a lively event to turn into an awkward situation as it often does around him.
Once again his eyes scanned the table, in hope of anything resembling rice. To his disappointment there was none, he let out a small sigh and a slight frown fell across his face. He took a look at what was in front of him, the food undoubtably smelled delicious, that surely would makeup for the rice would it not? He was not sure. There were much more options than he had anticipated, truly a magnificent feast. Among the clatter of silverware and chatter of students, the air was once again broken by the Ravenclaw girl, "You do know the food is not going to stay on the table endlessly? You should probably eat something, it was a long day and you aren’t going to get anything until tomorrow morning. Or are you not feeling well?". Troy's eyes shifted from the mounds of food to his fellow first year, "No no, I'm fine, I was just getting to that actually.. I couldn't help but notice theres no rice though. How many owls do you reckon I need to deliver a rice cooker?" He chuckled cheerfully. He smiled, taking the serving fork, helping himself to one of everything. It was more food than what seemed to fit his body. Troy's always had a big appetite, especially if the food was good. The feast definitely didn't disappoint, yes, he could definitely get used to this.
"We haven't properly introduced ourselves. My name is Troy, I moved here when I was a baby because my dad-" he cut himself off, he nearly let slip about his father's family, he should've been more cautious. He didn't want the first person he met at Hogwarts to avoid him because of his family relations. He continued, "because my dad wanted to start a new life here in the UK. How about you? What's your name?" He hadn't lied.. technically, his father really did, he just left out a part of the story. He wasn't comfortable with lying without thinking it through well, usually he lied pretty well, but this one, it was unavoidable. He didn' do a good job really hiding it, he knew that. Hopefully she wouldn't push it. He helped himself to another round of roasted potatoes.L A N G U A G E S

@Meyra Lancaster | MENTIONINGJun‘s annoyed gaze slipped off her features as the boy noted his prosthetic leg. She cringed internally as she listened to the Boys voice. That was not kind of her, in fact it was really very rude. She hadn’t even realized until he pointed it out, only focused on her nerves that were still somewhat on edge. „Oh Merlin, my apologies, I didn’t notice.“ She retorted quietly, giving him an apologetic smile and turning away embarrassed. How insensitive.
Internally slapping her hand against her forehead, Jun picked up her fork again and slowly started to push the food on her plate around. All while taking a bite every so often and listening to a conversation about History of Magic and the nice Professor that taught the subject, told by a third year to another one of the freshly sorted First Years.
Her eyes tried to search for Mey again, finding her and wishing she could go talk to her instead of sitting here. When her attention averted from her best friend and cousin, they met the boy next to her once again. He wasn’t eating. Why though? Was he not feeling well, possibly feeling odd from the long train ride and shaky boat adventure afterwards? Perhaps her lips were faster than the antisocial nature brewing inside her, because at the next moment Jun felt words slipping from her lips.
Her gaze settled on his, as long as he didn’t look away and awaited an answer. And in fact, he answered. Rice cooker? Was he talking about a chef, to cook his rice for him? Jun just smiled along his chuckles and took a look around before turning back to him. „Surely there is rice somewhere.. if not, I am quite certain they will serve it sometime..“ Hogwarts was technically a Scottish school but even the people of Great Britain knew what rice was and would probably eat it too, at least to Jun‘s knowledge.
She watched as the boy now too loaded his plate. Thinking the conversation was over, she turned back to chew on one of her carrots until Troy - which he now revealed as his name - started introducing himself. He spoke of his father and Jun couldn’t help the pain settling in her stomach and the clench of her heart. Regardless, she listened with a polite smile and thought of how she would word her next sentence.
„My name is Jun Mayumi, though most people just call me Jun,“ fiddling with the hem of her robe sleeve, she quickly exhaled, her lungs burning with the emotions she was holding in. Why was it still so hard to think about this and talk about her family, even after all the therapy her mother had sent her to? „We moved her about a year ago but I basically grew up equally in Japan and Britain because my family lives here.“ She pressed out a smile, looking over to Mey again. „One of my Cousins is also a first year here, she got sorted into Gryffindor though, the one with brown hair and green eyes.“ Jun nodded in her best friend’s direction, for Troy to see.
Hopefully Mey had also found someone to talk to and wasn’t as stressed as Jun still felt. Though, to her own surprise, talking to Troy kind of seemed to help. She just had to get the topic away from her family. „What about you, where are you originally from? May I assume somewhere from Asia?“ She picked up another piece of potato with her fork, carefully putting it into her mouth before looking back at Troy as she chewed with her hand before her mouth.

Not too ComfortableW o r d c o u n t .488 wordsN o t e s .How thoughtful of the girl to apologize to him, “It’s quite all right. Most people don’t realize it, regardless it was my fault I wasn’t more careful. However I do appreciate the kind gesture.” his face splitting into a small smile before turning back to his empty plater. Expressing his frustration over the lack of rice everywhere, the Ravenclaw girl had insisted that there was probably rice somewhere. “Hopefully..” Troy said, though he knew there probably was none. Throughout the numerous travels across Europe with his father, it had been difficult to find anything with rice. Home always had rice, why couldn’t they? It never settled with the eleven year old. Was it that difficult to procure rice and serve it? “You don’t always get everything in life” his mother had told him, maybe this was one of those occurrences. There was nothing he could do, turning back to the roasted potatoes in front of him.
Slowly the conversation had shifted towards each of their families. The Ravenclaw had introduced herself as Jun, sharing that she had grown up in both Asia and in Europe. Side mentioning about her cousin, who was just sorted as a Gryffindor. He took a quick glance towards the sea of maroon Gryffindors, before he turned back towards the girl. "Speaking of family, I've actually got a twin sister here, Tiffany, she was just sorted into Slytherin actually. Long dark hair, quite tall, and apparently surprisingly hard to find from the Ravenclaw table.." He shared craning his neck to check once more to no luck.
He took notice her ever so subtle body language. Fiddling with the hem of her pristine Ravenclaw robes, had he said something to make her nervous? Maybe she was uncomfortable. He was not sure, only she would really know. Hopefully it was not something he had said. Recalling the very recent conversation they had shared. Nothing had rung a bell, he hadn't said anything offending from what he could remember. Changing the subject seemed like the best coarse of action. He assumed that topic was most likely sensitive for Jun. Before any action could be made, Jun herself had already changed the topic.
"What about you, where are you originally from? May I assume somewhere from Asia?“ she had asked him. "Well my father is from Beijing, China and he moved to the Philippines where he met my mother. She was Filipino-Chinese and they both had decided to migrate up here, where they found out they had twins. I grew up over in Rotherham. Quite a ways from London actually." He picked up his utensils and took a stab at a piece of chicken on his platter before cutting it. "God I talk too much..” sounded in his brain, as he bit the roasted chicken off his fork. Troy awaited in silence if Jun had more to say, he didn’t want to talk more than he already had.L A N G U A G E S

@Meyra Lancaster | @Colin McCoire| MENTIONINGJun returned the small smile that Troy had given her. She really did feel bad and he shouldn’t have to apologise, yet he still did. There was silence for some time, in which Jun took in what was going on around her. When the Ravenclaw boy said there was no rice, Jun insisted that there would probably be some. Hogwarts supposedly had anything the heart could desire. At least in food terms.
After their conversation had picked up again, it moved towards the topic of family and somehow, the fact she had already been feeling anxious, only worsened the tension building inside of her. She didn’t want to talk about her father and she knew she didn’t have to, but today had been overwhelming in many ways and she so wished for him to be here on those days. She always wished for him to be around.
Jun‘s gaze switched to Mey briefly, who seemed to be entirely engulfed into the experience of the Gryffindor table. It was good to see that, to know Mey was going to be just fine in Gryffindor. Only, Jun had to acclimatize to the idea of being alone in Ravenclaw. Troy mentioned his twin sister Tiffany and Jun turned to look at the Slytherin table. She wasn’t exactly sure what face she was searching for, most likely one that looked like Troy‘s, but that was particularly hard in the sea of close nit green students. She could see that older blonde guy that had yelled out a weird sounding Gryffindor when Mey was sorted though.
Jun turned back to Troy and smiled as he talked about where he was from. She had of course been to China before, she had not been to the Philippines yet, though she heard they were beautiful. The Ravenclaw boy then told her where he grew up, which caused Jun to stop in her tracks, some peas falling from her fork back onto her plate. „Oh, you’re from Rotherham? I actually don’t live that far away from there! Do you know where Yorkshire Dales is? Our estate is located further away from the Muggle town and more in Nature though. We are basically surrounded by forests and fields.“
What a coincidence that he actually lives somewhere I know, Jun thought, picking the peas back up with her fork and knife and taking another bite. She really hadn’t been to many places in Great Britain, when she was younger they had visited London and she had spent many days in Mey‘s home or taken day trips to little towns. Now that they lived here, they barely ever went anywhere.
After a bit of silence, Jun finally decided she should be social again and cleared her throat before turning back to Troy. „Are you particularly excited for a subject, Troy? Or have an interest that would fit into our studies?“ Lovely Jun, that didn’t sound nerdy at all. She sighed internally, wondering whether it was truly a good idea to keep the conversation going but making acquaintances couldn’t be such a bad idea.
