Trouble in Paradise

Today was gonna be perfect!

Viviana awaited orders eagerly, her gaze glued to the professor as she tasted the information, rolling it around until it made sense to her. To think people really had trouble with this subject was laughable, what with how they, as first years were guided through the subject, coupled with her natural taste for new things that could make her better, Viviana was on track to pass with nothing but O's.

Soon however, listening became draining and other things began to grab her attention. Viviana trusted herself to glance at her surroundings for a moment and realize what she was seeing. Among her were of course Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws, all of which in different levels of study. Though most of the Eagles were keen on listening, her fellow Badgers seemed to vary in that while some were active parts of the class, others dawdled and doodle.

Looking up, Viviana saw a spider in the process of building its web in the corner. The little critter was hard at work, fusing strands to other stands. Viviana began to wonder how simple life was for the bug. Would it be better or worse to live as a carefree arachnid, unaware of everything almost to a fault. It'd never be much more than it already is. Viv felt a warm wave of triumph, knowing she was capable of actually learning magic, it was somewhat comforting.

The atmosphere was welcoming. The air was warm, yet dry, a comfortable temperature for the students to do their tasks. Not much sound was made, besides the occasional mutter between classmates and professor giving instructions. All in all it was incredibly welcoming, almost like a paradise.

At the realization that they were about to do a project, Viviana felt a bit of confidence, she would not worry too much about a lazy group member, since she would be able to effectively work by herself, as she intended. If her group member was active, perhaps she would be able to split the work.

Before the project however, the class was instructed to practice one of the spells that were essential to the project. The incantation was written and demonstrated. The moment of truth, time to copy it exactly- yet that wasn't the result.

No effect whatsoever. Perhaps it was Viviana's accent, maybe it was the fact that she was only half witch and therefore wouldn't be as good as casting. Regardless this made things a lot more frustrating.
