Ridiculous.

This whole Hogwarts thing was rather ridiculous. Nothing like he dreamed of for seven years when Aaron started. Nothing like the stories from his family. And not at all right. All because of the stupid sorting hat. Placing him in the worst house ever. Nothing was helping him so far. His parents still didn't know about the green dorm he was staying in instead of the red and gold like they think. And Aaron had barley talked to him.
It was all wrong.
He had gotten another letter from his parents asking about his house. And Oliver just didn't know how to respond. When they find out that he was not like them, he was sure that his great, great, great grandpa would die again. For generations it was only Gryffindor, that was all the Armani's were.
All but Oliver now. He was not in a good mood at all, for the whole week. Sulking around, and not able to find much enjoyment in his first classes. He hated it all, so he did what he normally did when he was upset. And choose to paint. He was doing this in the study room, as he thought it would make for the best place with privacy other then the library. Were he was almost sure no paint was allowed. So the study room it was. He was refusing to go in the common room right now unless he had to. It was so cold down there.
The study room was the best place he thought, and were he spent most of his time so far. Reading his books, and painting. He had been working on this for a day or two now. A lion, to remind him were he really belonged. Challenging himself to only use red and yellow, Gryffindor's house colors. The right colors.
The piece was coming along. Bare bones, only had the vague shapes so far. He found an empty table to work on. Hoping for no disturbance, He was not in the mood for it. He dipped the wet brush in the red watercolor (that was all he used, best way to paint if you asked him.), and slid it along the canvas. Starting to add detail to the lion's head. Doing the coat in yellow, and the rest of it in red, like eyes, main, tale, etc. He was happy with how it was going so far. Deep in focus on the movement of his brush.

Ridiculous.
In class, Jack made a show of not paying attention on purpose and generally being a class clown. In truth, Jack happened to be very studious, going so far as to learn spells before they were even taught in class by reading ahead in his textbooks and trying to master spells or potions before they were assigned or demonstrated by their teachers. However, because he liked to keep his studious nature secret, Jack usually worked away from others where and when no one would find him so they wouldn't learn of his academic endeavors. He didn't want those straight-A fanatics coming after him while trying to compete for the title of top student or teacher's pet. He had also been far too used to bullies learning he was good at his studies and trying to get him to do their work for him in his youth. Jack had had more than enough of that.
So when the sixth year went looking for a private place to work, he first stopped at a study room because study rooms were sometimes devoid of students who might have been at a meal or sleeping or off to study outside on a day with rare, nice weather. What he found there, though, surprised him. It was a boy he had seen placed in Slytherin at the opening feast, but he was painting. Painting itself was not unusual; Jack had caught at least one other student painting a sunrise in a tower before. But painting in a study room?
When he went around to peer at the canvas over the painter's shoulder, the subject matter surprised him even more - enough so that, after a moment or two of taking it in, he laughed aloud. "Please don't tell me that means what I think it means," he said as he recalled how unhappy the boy had seemed at the Slytherin table once he'd been assigned to it. "You're one of those kids who came from one of those families that expected you to be in a particular house, aren't you?" He laughed again. "Gee... I wonder which one."
