Abbey was in Diagon Alley with her older siblings Cynthia and Julian and both her parents. It was finally her turn to start at Hogwarts! It was now after a long day of shopping in Diagon Alley, time for her to get her first ever wand at Ollivanders. The eleven year old girl was super excited, but also a bit scared and nervous. What if they didn’t find the right wand for her? What if the wand she got was ugly or simply just not at all what she had expected it to be like? She didn’t want to get disappointed, but as it might sound, she actually didn’t have too high expectations for it either.

The soon to be a Hogwarts student walked next to her older sister with a wide smile on her face. Her mother and father were holding her other school supplies like her books, uniform and some ingredients for her potion classes. Her siblings hadn’t bought much stuff, since they had most of the things at home already. Cynthia was a fourth year and Julian a sixth, so they knew actually where to go and what to get. It made it a lot easier for Abbey to find everything since her parents and siblings all knew where to go. Her parents had been there shopping for a first year two times before so she expected them to know most of the shop locations.

Abbey followed her parents that were walking in the front together. After not long a small building with a sign saying "Ollivanders" were right in front of their noses. "Here we are!" Steven, Abbey’s dad said looking at his daughter with a warm smile. Quickly after, a comment was heard coming from her brother like always, "Again…" He didn’t sound happy, but it was more meant in a sarcastic way.

The five of them walked into the building. Her dad first who held the door open for the rest of them. "Wow!" Abbey said the moment she was surrounded by something that must have been a thousand wands. Her eyes widened as she glanced around the room having the best day of her life. She looked up, down, left and right all at once. "This is wonderful!" she thought as her eyes were still going back and forth as she looked around.

All her family members walked in and her dad closed the door behind them. Her siblings looked around too and they seemed to find it as interesting, cool and fun as Abbey even though they had both seen the store before. Maybe you never really become bored and used to the magical world? If that was the case, then Abbey was even more exited for all her other years at Hogwarts. She didn’t want to get bored of magic and discovering new magic, spells, potions and magical creatures. It was all so fun and wonderful!

The store was filled with students, mostly first years. She looked around at the people her age too as much as she looked at the building and the wands in the tall shelves. Not in a bad or judgmental way, but she was really interested in getting to know who she would be with for a whole year, or even seven whole years! Who would her house mates be? Her roommates? Her classmates? Who her friends would be was the question she was the most excited to figure out. Maybe she would have a friend group?

The line in front of them was quite long and it seemed to take a long time for every student to get their wand. Most of the first years in front of the line tried at least two wands before they got a match. It was quite fun to watch them break things, but the one of them who was the most entertained by this was Abbey’s brother. It was almost like he was watching a comedy show or something. He laughed to himself and commented to both Abbey and Cynthia. "Bet that girl will break that vase over there when she tries the next wand." Cynthia just rolled her eyes and Abbey was to busy looking around to care about what her brother had to say.

Julian didn’t stop commenting at the first years who were just trying to find the right wand for themselves in peace. He came with a new bet after another. "I bet-" Before he could even finish his sentence this time, Cynthia was done with his commenting, "Can you just shut up?" She sounded so done, but didn’t yell so Julian didn’t feel offended or embarrassed, he just chuckled slightly to himself before he like always commented back. "Chill!" Their parents just rolled their eyes and ignored their little argument. They were used to it and knew they didn’t have to stop the arguments all the time, at least not with the oldest. Because when Cynthia and Julian argued it usually just ended with them agreeing to hate each other (not like actually hate each other, but you know like sibling hate)

The line moved slow, but it wasn’t long before it was Abbeys turn. It seemed to be about Three students in front of her. It was kinda hard to see because most of them were standing in line with their family, just like Abbey was. One after another got their wand that they would have for their whole time at Hogwarts, right? Abbey wasn’t sure, but she hadn’t thought about going back here for herself to get a new wand. She knew she would take good care of the one she would get today, at least try her best too. If she ever had to get a new wand she knew it would most likely be her siblings fault. They would probably break it somehow. Just thinking about it made her frustrated!

"Hello young one" A man said looking down at Abbey from behind the counter. Abbey looked up at him. "Guess it’s my turn to get my wand now! Not a problem at all!" Abbey was nervous, she didn’t want to do anything wrong. The old man in front of her smiled waiting for the first year to say something, just anything really. "Hi" Abbey said shy and nervous. She looked up at her mother before looking back at the old man. The man was friendly and had probably met a lot of nervous first years before because he quickly made Abbey feel less nervous. He smiled even wider, "So a new wand, huh? First one, right?" Abbey smiled and nodded. "I remember exactly what wand’s I gave to your older siblings here.” The mad looked at Julian and Cynthia who were both smiling. "I am shocked you haven’t lost or broken your wand yet boy!" He chuckled. He was talking about Julian and that was obvious to them all. Steven laughed while Jane glanced at him wanting him to keep it together and stop laughing. Cynthia was laughing to, but she tried to hold her laugh in as she noticed how embarrassed Julian looked. To Julian it felt like everyone in the store just heard how clumsy and irresponsible he is. It was something a bit embarrassing to admit to strangers. That he always lost things, broke them or forgot about them. He tried though, but he was way to clumsy.

The man stopped laughing after a few minutes and began walking over to some shelves behind the counter. The shelves were dark purple and as tall as the other ones in the rest of the store and they were filled with wands. The man mumbled something to himself and it seemed like he was talking to himself for a moment. He looked around at the shelves filled with wands for a while before he began climbing up a ladder to reach a box that didn’t seem any different than the rest of the boxes in the store. Abbey and her family stood there watching him and waiting in excitement for him to give Abbey what could be her first ever wand. Abbey was still nervous, but not as much as when she first entered the store. Her parents were exited for their daughter and her mother held Abbey’s hand as they stood there and waited. Julian still seemed a bit embarrassed, but he was also bored and ready to leave already. He wasn’t a big fan of waiting. Cynthia was having a good time and she was as excited as her parents to see her younger sister start her journey at Hogwarts and get her first wand.

The old man walked over to the Thompson family in front of the counter, with a dark green box in his left hand. He looked down at Abbey and pushed the little box closer to her and then waited for the first year to open the box and try the wand. Abbey looked down at the box for a minute before she opened it to reveal a dark brown and beautiful wand. She looked up at the old man before she took the wand out of the box. She was still scared she was going to do something wrong and ruin something. Her and her family had just watched other first years break things because they got the wrong wand, but it didn’t make Abbey any less nervous for the moment she could end up doing the same thing. She really didn’t want to break anything. What if she hurt someone by accident? That was probably the worse scenario right now, but it could still happen. She didn’t want to hurt her family, but not any strangers neither. She wasn’t a violent person at all other then sometimes when she was fighting with her siblings and got really mad at them…

The wand she was now holding was surprisingly not as heavy as she had thought, it was also a lot different then the once her family members had. All of her family members wands were light brown. She didn’t know how to feel about that, but she did like the look of the wand so maybe it didn’t really matter? She didn’t want to be the only one in her family with a different looking wand. Her younger brother Oscar would start Hogwarts a year later than her thought, so maybe he would end up with a wand similar to Abbey’s? Who knew, but that was what Abbey wanted.

The first year stood there for a moment just holding the wand and looking at it. "Go on, try the wand!" The man behind the counter said in a exited and happy voice. He still had that wide friendly smile on his face. Abbey smiled at him, but looked a bit clueless. The man noticed, but didn’t seem to be bothered to explain to her what she had to do, "Just give it a swish and we will see if it’s the right one for you" Abbey’s dad place a hand on her shoulder, "Don’t worry Abbey" He said with a smile and then took his hand of her shoulder again waiting for her to try the wand.

Abbey took a few steps away from the counter and waited for the right moment to try the wand. She looked at her parents with a nervous smile before she swished the wand up in the air. Nothing happened, not before a few seconds later when a yellowish light appeared from the top of the wand. "Well that didn’t take long!" The man behind the counter sounded surprised. I mean from what it seemed, every student before Abbey had to try at least two wands before they found the right one so the man had a good enough reason to be. Abbey was surprised too and so was her parents and siblings. They were also really happy for her. Julian was mostly happy because it didn’t take long and they could leave the store earlier than expected.

Abbey didn’t know what to do now. She wasn’t even 100% sure if she had just found the right wand. Was the light like a sign that it was the right one for her? She guessed so because everyone around her was so happy. Her mother walked over to her and gave her a hug. "Are you happy with your wand?” Abbey just nodded with a smile.

Her parents paid for the wand and they left the store. "Bye! Take care and have a good school year!" The man said before they closed the door to the store and left.
