Throughout the year, papers would be found throughout the halls of Hogwarts. These were strange and cryptic messages that seemed to insinuate some kind of needy or desperate plead for people to join the club, accompanied by a schizophrenic series of numbers at the very bottom of each iteration. They were easily ignored by those who didn't have time to give a scrappy piece of paper the time of day or a whit of worthwhile care. It never interfered with their day.

But for those that did take interest in the piece of paper, they would be met with something interesting indeed. Though some method of luck, skill, talent, or instinct, they had discovered that the series of numbers had a meaning. Hidden in the simple handwritten notes that were found fluttering aimlessly about like plastic bags in the wind, those numbers that seemed to change on the monthly or so indeed held something much deeper than what had first been perceived. It was, as they would discover, a code. A code that carried the essentials of a time, date, and location.

The question then, though, was if the person was interested enough to follow the rabbit's cottontail down the hole--to track the trail down to the last scent and determine what its origins were. Some simply weren't interested or didn't think it was worth their time.

But others were, and they did believe it to be worth their time.

The location seemed to be the same, at least, what one could figure to be the "Quidditch Training Pitch" based off of the context and the diced words of the paper proper. The time varied, seemingly almost random in nature... some days they would have to come at the crack of dawn, on others threatening the incoming night curfew, and others in broad daylight. Never, it seemed, were any of the days on the date of the full moon--considerations had been taken seriously.

Regardless of how or when, if the individual came to the quidditch pitch they would be greeted by at least one individual--their inviter--and perhaps by others, if they had felt the desire to tag along to one of these events.

He was a relatively short boy for his age, he had lost the battle with his growth spurts and had been forced to contend instead with the crown of the "Short King" standard. He was garbed in a basic Hogwarts school robe of black with no color indicators, perhaps slightly baggy on his lithe frame in a way that almost looked weirdly and cornily 'cultist'-like in some respects. He gave no indication of being involved in anything in the vicinity or even moderately concerned with his environment unless he was directly affronted and asked about the curious messages, after which a curious smile would cross across his face that caused bright green eyes to gleam with an auspicious glitter of puckery. On most occasions a silver cat would be either around his shoulders or nearby on the ground, tail swishing in the air curiously as it beheld the stranger with minty green feline eyes, carefully observing the situation that was likely to transpire.

The upperclassman seemed mostly relaxed regard at first glance, but it would be difficult not to notice the way he carried himself on the balls of his feet or the fact that his wand--a pale bone-white length of polished yew wood--was kept quite literally up his sleeve or at a thigh holster right in reach of his left hand's thin fingers. Still his smile was pleasant enough, eerily approachable at that.

Of course, now that one had conquered the first set of hurdles and had now finally physically come here... their test will have only just begun. This was merely the next step of the process, and he was the next screener of this aspiring member.

Ideally this thread will be open for the h.io school year of 2024-25. This is the thread that will serve as the 'induction' thread for those in the "Marchonné Mafia" club--the first time that one deciphered the code that can be found on scraps of paper scattered throughout the castle at any location the user desires between 28th September to 25th June or so (essentially whenever the active school year occurs).

While similar to the "Sorting" thread in nature and intent, this is still a living rp thread. I'll try to make a habit of posting here at least once every three months to keep the thread artificially active, though depending on the activity throughout the year 'active' roleplay may become more frequent. However, for the sake of my sanity if a 'time' has passed, I don't plan on backtracking and covering every inch of every interaction--consider this similar to an "office" thread where after a month or so the specific interaction is considered 'closed'.

Make sure you put the date at which you located the club first. The designated dates for new member inductions in the year are listed below.
September: 30th, 6:53pm
October: 21st, 10:00am
November: 13th, 5:21pm
December: 1st, 7:32pm
January: 5th, 11:40am
February: 18th, 1:57pm
March: 3rd, 6:02pm
April: 30th, 8:47am
May: 15th, 5:00pm
June: 25th, 7:05pm
Note that these dates may actively change depending on site events (like the ball or special events). I'll be changing/modifying this post with the dates if such a thing occurs (and will similarly inform on the Discord server for further papertrailing).

Welcome to the family, newcomers.

Today, Cass was finally going to get to the bottom of all the weird papers that had bugging them throughout the year. The notice board was a object frequently checked by them, and most of the time the notices on it were relatively straightforward. Club signups, announcements, all the normal stuff. What they had originally taken to be a piece of rubbish stuck to the board as a joke however, was not simple at all. It seemed like complete gibberish at first glance, and they had just ignored it the first time. The second time they saw one though, they scribbled the numbers down on a scrap of parchment in their pocket. Cass was a lot of things. Stupid yes, chaotic indeed, but not dumb. At the end of the day they were still an Ito.

Besides, "come only if cheeky" was practically a challenge directed directly at them. Cass tried a bunch of things in vain before coming to the library. Classrooms, desks, and the common room were meticulously inspected in the hope they wouldn't have to venture into the dreaded place of books. It had taken them a few afternoons to find the thing, and even longer before they were sure they had it right. By the end of it, they were beginning to regret trying to find this "magical mystery". At least it had the decency to basically announce which book it was in. If they had to read multiple they might have just thrown the entire bookshelf out the window into the lake for all the fish to read.

But here they were now, puzzle solved. Or hopefully. They were in the right place at least, hopefully on the right day and time. The whole secretive nature of the thing had prompted them to grab a cloak and wear simple, black robes devoid of house colours. A mask would have been going to far, but with the hood up their face was in shadow and it would be quite difficult to tell who they were. The clothes were the simplest part of the act anyway. Harder was the movement. Cass normally rushed everywhere like they were being chased, and took like a million detours on the way to a place. Mystery student however walked purposefully, even if they had no idea where they were going.

On the field, like a lighthouse guiding the poor confused idiot second year to their destination, stood a boy. He was also hooded, which meant that Cass must have managed to get the right idea. They hoped it didn't end up being a weird cult thing where they had to run around in hoods all the time though. They couldn't see in this thing. Keeping with the mystery act, they walked up to the boy and stood their silently like a boring person. Mystery student would make people talk first, they thought. Mystery student was very cool like that.
