An Old Friend
Dear Emery,
I was unsure how to start this letter. I am aware it has been over a year since we last spoke and I apologise deeply. If I am entirely honest I was probably not going to be able to talk to you ever again. However, as you were sorted into Hufflepuff this year there is nothing stopping me from conversing with you.
That being said, I feel there are some things I should explain before we can attempt to be friends once more. They pertain to knowledge you already have and very large portions of my story you are missing. Obviously I could not inform you due to the statue of secrecy and believing you were a muggle. You are not a muggle though Emery are you.
Now first things first never once did I tell you something that was untrue. I am very wealthy, My parents did have me privately tutored, and they were aware I was safe whenever I was out. Now for the things I did not tell you. I am what is known in the magical world as pureblood. Just as you are known as a mudblood. The social rules mudbloods have are far more lenient than that of the purebloods. We are not allowed by our families to converse with muggles or know much about muggles at all. We are also expected to know most of the traditions and be able to uphold them by the time we are off to Hogwarts.
Now that last thing, why I stopped visiting the muggle town. I had been sneaking out of the manor and had gotten caught on the window sill. When I fell, I slowed the fall with accidental magic. In my excitement I had told my parents and they asked why I was sneaking out my window. When I had no choice but to inform them they banned me from leaving the estate without them. The whole ordeal was quite dramatic in my opinion but they enforced it well so I had no choice.
Sincerely,
Alexander Knights

Dear Alexander,
I thought I would never hear from you again after you quit showing up to the library. I missed seeing you when I would go there to read and do my homework. I’ve been wondering what happened to you, it’s nice knowing you are alive and well. I am still learning some of the terms you used, what is a mudblood? One last question, why did your parents ban you from leaving your house for so long? I do not know what else to write, I am just happy to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Emery Jones

Dear Emery,
That is sweet of you. I have missed you dearly too Emery. A mudblood is a witch or wizard who was born from muggles. Your second question is far more complicated than one letter can answer. I will however do my best to explain.
As you know there is magic. Our cousin Kyle has one foot in the muggle world and one foot in the magic world. His mother in my aunt and she is just as magical as you or me. His father is muggle and therefor does not fit in the magical world. Your parents are not magical so i had assumed along with everyone else that you would not be magical either. That meant you were to be treated as a muggle. Pureblood witches and wizards do not interact with muggles as it if frown heavily upon.
There is also the statue of secrecy to uphold as well. Muggle can not see or learn about actual magic as that threaten the magical society. Should a muggle learn about magic it will be wiped from their minds. The only exception to this is the immediate family of a mudblood.
All this being said until the final day we had planned to meet up I had not shown any signs of magic. With the fact that it was after my tenth birthday it was becoming more and more likely that I did not have magic, so I didn't give a hoot about accidental magic. When I finally had my first case of accidental magic that allowed me into the registration book of Hogwarts I had told my parents which led to them asking questions and then banning me from the muggle town since I was officially Magical.
It also didn't help that they despise muggles for some unfathomable reason.
