A brisk jog
Accalia had made her way down to the waters of the great lake, it was a nice, chill morning, and the sun was just starting to rise in the distance, casting soft hues of pink and gold across the horizon.
A haze of mist rose from the calm waters, swirling gently like delicate wisps of smoke, giving the lake an almost ethereal appearance.
The air was crisp, carrying with it the faint scent of dew on the grass and the fresh, earthy aroma of the surrounding forest.
She took a deep breath, letting the cool air fill her lungs, and smiled to herself.
It was these sweet quiet moments of the early morning that were her favorite, a peaceful contrast to the usual hustle and bustle of life.
With no one else around, it felt like the entire world belonged to her in this serene slice of time.
Stretching her legs with the shimmering lake waters as her backdrop, Accalia jogged on the spot, shaking off the morning chill and breaking the frost from her veins.
The cold air nipped at her skin, but the familiar warmth from her body starting to work soon spread through her sending a pleasant tingle through her spine.
She tilted her head from side to side, loosening the tension in her neck and shoulders, before launching into a gentle jog alongside the great lake.
The rhythmic sound of her feet hitting the earth was soothing to her, meditative even as it blended with the quiet rustling of the trees and the soft lap of the water against the shore.
She glanced toward the horizon, where sunlight now illuminated the mist rising from the lake, casting a golden glow over everything, and as her pace increased, so did her focus.
Accalia had decided one day, one day she will run the entire perimeter of this lake, an ambitious goal to be sure and one she knew would likely not be accomplished until well into her older years at Hogwarts after all the great lake was vast, its farthest stretches hidden from sight.
Running the full thing was a monumental task that she knew she wasn't yet ready for that did nothing to dampen her spirits or goal though as she ran and imagined herself in her final years at Hogwarts, stronger and faster, finally making the full circuit, a grin spreading across her face at the thought, but she also knew it wouldn’t be easy.
She began thinking of ways it could possibly happen, perhaps she would likely need some sort of charm to enhance her speed or endurance, something to push her beyond her current limits, perhaps beyond human limits even, but for now, she was content with the progress she was making, she didn't remember having any classes this morning so she hoped she'd at least get a good few steps in before needing to turn back.
As her muscles began to burn that comforting sensation of lactic acid working its way out of her system she let out a loud "Whoop!" her voice cracking through the spell of the morning.

A brisk jog
Dawn is beautiful. Probably even better than sunset, and it was a shame that not all people could enjoy its beauty. Beautiful colours of warm shades blended to form amazing gradients while above still remained the blue of night. The sun slowly came up from the horizon giving the morning light to the castle, the forbidden forest and Great Lake. By the lake, the sky was even more beautiful, reflecting on the surface of the water like a mirror, making the view like a painting by a brilliant artist.
Michael, who usually didn't get up at this hour, was glad that today was the day he got up so early. Perhaps it was fate. Often Michael didn't get up this early, and liked to lie in bed until the last possible moment, but what he saw outside today was definitely worth it.
The birds were starting to wake up and chirp their song. The sun was already beginning to warm the air in the neighbourhood with its rays, so that it would not be so hard for students to get up from their bed for classes. And the morning fog would soon begin to dissipate, ending this mesmerising time of day. But that would come later, for now there was still time to enjoy it.
Walking across the dew-wet grass toward the lake, Michael yawned sleepily. As beautiful as it was, it was not for him o get up this early. Here by the lake, though, the girl was having her morning jog. Michael couldn't understand such people, of course he also used to go jogging before going to school, but it was in the evening, when it didn't feel like torturing himself. But different people had different ideas about when to do physical activity. Maybe he should have tried it someday too, because it's not for nothing that so many people choose to run so early in the day.
When he reached the lake, Michael wondered if he should greet the girl. Not thinking long enough, he came to the answer that yes he should. But not really care that it was inappropriate, or maybe she wanted some time to herself alone, Michael shouted to the running girl "Hey! Hi!", because he would not run after her to say hello at such an early hour, and plus it would obviously look creepy.Reducio

A brisk jog
Accalia was focused, brain empty, mind on her jog, breathing in the dew-laden air as she worked her body, up until she wasn’t at the end of the boys cheerful greeting.
When the boy greeted her, she came to a complete and sudden stop.
A full, halting motion so precise it seemed almost magical, every muscle perfectly controlled, in unison with every other, her hair sway the only sign that she had once been in motion.
She turned her body smoothly to face the boy who had startled her out of her peaceful reverie, her curious blue eyes quickly took him in, scanning him with the same intensity she applied to everything, before any momentary surprise melted away almost in its entirety.
Then, almost as quickly as she had stopped, a huge, friendly grin crept across her face, a warmth that lit up her entire expression and positively beamed the desire for friendship forth from her, the intent practically glowing around her and without a second thought or any regard for propriety, she sprang into a sprint, closing the distance between them in a few bounding steps, her boots thudding lightly on the earth.
"Hi!" she called out energetically, her voice brimming with enthusiasm as it carried across the quiet landscape like the sunlight bursting through the thicket of trees. “Oh wow, I wasn’t expecting anyone to be up at this time of morning!” She stopped a few feet in front of him, her grin never fading, and began peppering him with questions, barely giving him a chance to respond.
“Are you on a hike?” she asked, examining him as she pondered his reason for being out so early, maybe she may even have a hiking buddy here, though as she leaned forward slightly she knew that must not be it, peering at him with interest she tried to guess. “Or going to go for a swim? Hmm? Though, you don’t appear to have bathers on...” She tilted her head, as if trying to puzzle out the answer on her own.
Before he could utter a word, she was off again, bubbling over in an unstoppable wave. "Oh! Are you maybe an artist? You seem to have the sleepy appeal of one" she asked, her excitement peaking as she thinks she may have set her mind on the right path. “Here to set the scene in words, song or paint? I’ve seen people come out here to sketch the lake, you know! It’s beautiful in the morning—well, you can see that already. But sometimes they come with those easels or notebooks and things, looking all thoughtful and mysterious. Are you one of those types?”
Accalia was practically bouncing on her toes, her energy infectious, she had always been naturally curious, but this boy’s unexpected appearance had ignited a flurry of questions she couldn’t help but ask, she simply had to know.
Though she barely knew him her open nature was boundless, acting as if they’d been friends forever.
She paused for a second, her head tilting as another thought came to mind. “Wait, what are you doing out here all alone, anyway? Not that I mind! I love having company. It’s just…most people aren’t up this early. You must be up to something interesting, right? Can I join in?” Her eyes sparkled with the same eagerness, ready to hear his story, or continue her own line of excited questioning if he didn’t answer fast enough.

A brisk jog
Michael blinked, and even freeze for a second when he was caught up in a flood of enthusiasm that would have knocked him off his feet if it had been material. There was so much energy in her that it seemed like it would burst out of the girl right now. And Michael believed that the new meeting was obviously more interesting than the landscape around him, he would have time to enjoy it during his seven years of studying at school.
After the first shock Michael did not hold back and laughed, he thought the whole scene was funny. The girl's energy was spreading and he couldn't help but smile "You know, I didn't expect to see you here this early," he said through his laughter, scratching the back of his head.
The girl was like the personification of the sun with amber hair like its rays and blue eyes like the sky, so it was probably not surprising that she was running early in the morning "Usually I prefer to sleep in until the last minute, but something went wrong today" he said calming down after a laugh. "It's not like I go hiking this early, and I wouldn't swim either. And I'm definitely not an artist, my best is to draw a stick man," he chuckled shaking his head. "But yeah, painting this place would be cool. Someone would definitely buy the painting and wish they were here on their own." He took another quick glance around the area, it really was beautiful, the sleeping students in their beds having had a wasted day of not getting up earlier today.
He could see that no matter how many questions the girl had, she was full of others. Michael even felt a little awkward, because the girl probably expected interesting and exciting answers, which he didn't have "To be honest, I just couldn't sleep after I woke up, so I came here to get some fresh air, I'm not up to anything interesting, I'm sorry," he even sounded sad at the end of the sentence. "What about you? Do you come here to run around and question random people, or is this just an idea for today?"
With every second of being here Michael was glad that he had forced himself to get out of bed and go to the lake, because for his not so long being at Hogwarts he hadn't really made any contacts and friends, it was almost everyone had already found their own companies and friends, and he didn't want to impose himself, and the girl looked like a good person at first look. And she didn't look much older than him, he would have given her a second year at most, "You're a first year too, aren't you?" He asked the second question before the girl could answer the first one. The second was immediately followed by a third, "Though if you're up to something interesting or have ideas I'm all for it." And after a second's thought he added, "As long as we don't get into too much trouble afterwards, I'll agree to a little trouble."Reducio

A brisk jog
Seeing the boy’s positive reaction to her presence only made Accalia's already bright countenance shine more, nearly outshining the rising sun that peeked over the hills and provided the backdrop for their scene, now all but forgotten in her mind.
The excitement of meeting someone new, especially here at Hogwarts, felt like a jolt of energy coursing through her veins, after all she loved making friends, and this moment seemed like it could be the start of a great friendship.
"Oh! Aye, ma da' always says I’m his 'ray o' sunshine'," she started, her words tumbling out with an easygoing charm and the sing-song cadence of her Scottish accent.
"Says I’m up at first light, burning bright all day long with more energy than anyone knows what to do with.By the time the sun dips, I’m out cold, flat as a pancake!" Her blue eyes sparkling with warmth as she spoke.
"As for why I am up and out here practicing" she gestured to the vast expanse of the lake behind them, the forbidden forest on its edge and Hogwarts set in the middle on its own little island, the mist still rising in the morning air, and her face took on a look of determination.
"You see, one day I’m planning on running around this whole lake, Starting right here!"
She pointed to the ground with a dramatic flair, "and ending here too. But I’m not there yet. Need ta build up more stamina and my endurance too, not to mention the speed issue. It’s gonna take some time before I can do that and still make it to class!" She shook her head with a soft laugh, clearly unfazed by the challenge ahead of her.
Waving her hand dismissively at his apology, she added with a bright smile, "Don't be daft, there's no need to be sorry! Just meeting you has already made my day after all sometimes it’s the little things that make the difference, and life is made up of all those little things." Her words carried a genuine sincerity, as though bumping into him by the lake was the most fascinating and important thing that could have happened that morning.
She stepped even closer, still buzzing and vibrating, her energy barely contained. "You've got a good eye there," she said, playfully tapping his shoulder, though she had to reach up a bit on her toes to do it.
"I’m a first year too! Brand new to this place, just beginning to understand what is on offer for me! Seemingly I guess for us" she tapped him again, holding her hand on his shoulder this time as her mind swam with thoughts of adventures still yet to come.
Her gaze shifted back to the shimmering waters of the lake for a moment, the gentle waves catching the early morning light, a large tentacle rising from the middle, "Oh look! Squiddie is out early!" She pointed towards the giant squid as it waved hello, then her focus snapped back to him, her grin turning mischievous as though an idea had just struck her. "So, we could get back to jogging if you want," she started, her tone suggesting there were far more interesting things on her mind. "Or... we could find some trouble to get into. You know what they say, the day’s only as fun as the mischief you make!" Her eyes gleamed, a mix of excitement and mischief practically spilling over.
"Or maybe..." She paused for effect, leaning in just a bit, only to break the tension with a game that was oft played and hardly controversial but said with all the secrecy of utmost mischief "we could skip some stones across the lake, aye? I bet I could get a good five or six good bounces if the water’s calm enough. But, really, doesn't matter what we do, as long as we’re havin’ fun, right?" She leaned back and crossed her arms with a satisfied nod, as though that settled the matter.
Her enthusiasm was infectious, and it was clear from the way she talked that to her, this unexpected meeting was already the highlight of her morning and it really didn't matter what they did, if they ended up jogging, causing a bit of harmless mischief, or simply skipping stones, Accalia was ready for whatever after all it was her nature to embrace every moment with open arms and a wide grin and that she was interested in the input from her new friend.
"Oh! Wait, near forgot my head if it weren't attached, I am Accalia Avalon, Accy to my friends, so Accy to you if ya want it to be." With a quick gesture, Accalia extended her hand for a handshake but if he took it, then, in a planned moment of spontaneity she'd pull him into one of her bone-aching hugs.

Michael smiled from her stories, especially the part where her father called her a ray of sunshine - a description that was difficult to disagree with. Plus he was humoured by her comparison to a pancake at the end of the day, he was more like a pancake at the beginning of the day.
"You have more energy than lightning in a thunderstorm," he said with a laugh, trying to keep up with her thoughts. When she talked about running around the entire lake, Michael raised his eyebrows in honest surprise. "The whole lake, huh? It sounds..." Michael was even speechless for a second trying to find the words "...It sounds like something you would do" Running round the lake was a bit unrealistic to be honest, so he couldn't help but feel surprised about this idea. Plus she was planning to do it before school, and damn it if she could do it Michael would be happy for her, but it would even scare him a little bit.
How easily she brushed off his apology made Michael feel even more relaxed. Her positivity was contagious, and he was grateful to run into just such an cheerful girl. "I guess you're right." he agreed, thinking about the fact that only a few minutes ago he had been mired in thought, and now he had a chance to brighten up his school routine.
"You know I think this meeting made my day too." Meeting such a friendly girl at the lake early in the morning when not so many people were awake felt like fate, so Michael thought they might as well become friends.
When she tapped his shoulder, Michael felt the friendly gesture and couldn't help but giggle. "Yeah, I think we're in for an interesting first year, well at least I hope so, at most we can make it one ourselves," he replied, nodding to confirm her words.
"Squiddy? You gave a giant killer monster a name? Cute." he said, shaking his head after he turned to watch the squid's tentacle move lazily in the water. He liked to be dramatic sometimes. The way she talked about all the things they could do made him finally wake up and stop wanting to go back to bed, "Trouble? Now you've got me even more interested!" he said with a playful smirk, and the thought of mischief sparkled in his eyes. The whole situation seemed unreal: a giant squid, a new friend, and the possibility of adventure, all before breakfast. Usually during that time he only enjoyed his last dream.
"Skip some stones? I don't mind either," he said, eyes sparkling with the fire of competition inside them. "But, I'll tell you, I'm pretty good at it. I bet I can do more bounces than you." He threw her a challenging look, which was a bit of a lie, after all he had only tried skip stones once, and stone was immediately drowned so Michael really hoped they would decide to do something else.
From the way the girl leaned towards him with a mischievous look, Michael realised that whatever they were doing, they wouldn't be bored today, and most importantly now, the first year didn't have to think about exams or grades. "I agree, it doesn't matter what we do, as long as we have fun." He nodded, already feeling that together they could definitely get into trouble and do the right things.
When she introduced herself as Accy, Michael smiled and extended his hand to shake hers in return. "Nice to meet you, Accy. I'm Michael, or Mike if you like short version, and you can call me whatever you like, as long as I know it's for me. So, rocks or trouble first?"Reducio

A brisk jog
Accalia gave forth a grin that was full of confidence as she struck a proud pose, one hand firmly on her hip and her other giving a thumbs up, she practically oozed playful determination.
"You're dang right it is! I am going to ace this track and can't wait for you my friend to cheer me on as I pass the finish line"
Then as he talked about the nickname she’d given to the giant squid, her eyes gleamed with mischievous amusement.
"Ahh, Squiddy wouldn't hurt a... Well, he probably would hurt a fly, but he’s harmless, really," she said with a casual wave of her hand. "Just a giant, wet, rubbery, puppy dog. I want to swim out there to play with him sometime, not sure when though as I was strictly forbidden from doing so without adequate supervision and, 'Not until I am in my fifth year'" she mimed as if copying a lecture that she'd received from someone at some point, giving a roll of her eyes.
Though one thing was clear, that any mention of her being cute from her companion had flown right over her head, not even registering as she continued on, entirely focused on the challenge at hand. Her competitive spirit burning at the forefront now.
"And you're on!" Accalia declared, it seemed that Accalia from before the challenge had been tired with how much energy bubbled up at the utterance of a challenge.
"Winner gets to make one demand of the loser, yeah? I’ll tell you right now, my demand would be for you to meet me here at dawn every morning, that way, I’ll have a jogging buddy and it doesn't matter if we don't have the same classes or are able to meet up much during term, we always have time to meet!" Her tone was teasing but firm, a clear sign that she was serious about making him her running partner if she won as well as to get him up each morning.
"Sound like fun, Big M?" It seemed she had already settled on a nickname for him, 'Big M' and from the way she said it, she had no plans of calling him anything else from this point on.
Her enthusiasm was unstoppable, and she was clearly relishing the idea of adding a little friendly competition to their friendship, likely the first of many friendly contests after all everything was a challenge to be tackled with gusto, she was in her element, and nothing was going to hold her back, she would try to beat her record of rock skips, though she'd also help if she realized it was something he struggled with.

Michael grinned, shaking his head in disbelief at how confident Accalia was acting, but at the same time admiring her and the goals she was setting for herself, unafraid of challenges. "I'll be cheering for you!" he promised, amused at the thought of her actually following through on this stupid idea. There was so much determination in her that he was beginning to believe that she could do it.
"Squiddy, the rubber puppy?" Michael raised an eyebrow in mock disbelief. "Yes, of course, because puppies have tentacles and can drag you into the deep where he can be helped to drown you by mermaids. Sounds perfectly safe and harmless." She could hear the sarcasm in his voice, but it was clear he was shok by her love for the monster. "Although... swimming with him could be fun. Fifth year, huh? Well, that should give us some time to.... er... plan this?". He added with a smirk, pretending that he wasn't taking all these ‘inhibitions’ too seriously and he was ready to get in the water even now.
Then she challenged him, and Michael felt the fire of competition brewing in his chest. "Oh, I see what you're trying to do," he replied with a mischievous grin, "you're trying to get me to go for a morning run. I'll tell you straight, Accy, it's a big risk for you, because if I win, I could make you carry my books all day or come up with something worse." His tone was playful and he didn't mean it seriously, but he liked the idea of her carrying his books.
"Uh? Big M?" He laughed, genuinely surprised by such a nickname. "Okay, I'll take it."
The competitive side was showing even more in him now, and he wasn't going to lose easily. Michael looked at the lake and then back at Accalia, and a spark flashed in his eyes.
"Alright, Big A," he replied with a smirk, deciding to give her another nickname, "enjoy your loss!"
He picked up a flat rock, testing its weight in his hand. He knew he wasn't good at it, but he believed in his luck and hoped he would have a natural talent, after all he really didn't want to run in the morning, but the challenge and fun was too good to pass up.
Swinging round he threw the stone into the water, but it didn't even make a single leap fall straight down to the dark bottom of the lake. "This one doesn't count! It was a warm up" Embarrassed Michael shouted immediately after the unsuccessful throw waving his arms and head.Reducio

A brisk jog
Accalia’s eyes got wide, leaning in as she tried to process what she’d just heard. “Wait... mermaids? Seriously? There are actually mermaids down there? That’s way cooler than I expected! Okay, now we simply have to go swimming! there's no way around it!” she declared, practically bouncing with excitement, her face lit up, like she’d just just been given Christmas, Easter and her birthday all in one package.
“Do you think they drink tea? Like, mermaid tea or something? Made of Kelp? And what do you think they eat for snacks? Seaweed cookies?” She laughed at herself, letting her imagination run wild with the idea even though it sounded a bit ridiculous, that was all part of the fun after all.
As she did she seemingly spaced out. Then, just like that, she remembered the challenge, flashing a mischievous grin. “Alright, you got me,” she said, giving a little shrug. “If you win, I’ll carry your books. But only if we’ve got the same classes, after all I can’t be running all over the place, right? I’m not about to run from the Astronomy tower all the way down to the forest because I'm lugging around your astronomy texts and have to get down to my own care for magical creatures classes, but because I am tacking on a clause, I will let you add on a second task for me too in exchange, see if you can do your worst!”
She gave a soft chuckle, then shot him a playful look. “But if I win? Oh, you better believe I’m thinking of something good for you to do. To the victor go the spoils, right? Future Running buddy” Her grin widened as she nudged him lightly, clearly having way too much fun with this.
When he just dropped the stone into the water without even trying to skim it, she couldn’t hold back her laughter. “Big M, seriously?” she teased, shaking her head in disbelief. “You’ve gotta skim it, not just toss it in, it's all about poise and form as well as strength, watch this.”
She bent down, rummaging through the stones until she found the perfect one, smooth and flat, just what she needed. “Watch and learn,” she teased, flashing a grin, and with a flick of her wrist, sent it skimming across the water, and with a mighty throw the stone went spinning off into the distance, the noise sending an odd tone through the chill air as it bounced further and further, 10, 15, 20, 30, 34.... 35 bounces before it came to a stop in the middle of the lake, Accalia was stunned as it beat even her own best records, taking a few seconds before turning around and letting out a whooping cheer “ Yeah Baby! That’s how it’s done! Think you can beat that?" she challenged shooting him a wink

A brisk jog
Michael's eyes widened in surprise as Accalia's stone swept through the water with seemingly unreal ease. "Thirty-five bounces?!" He exclaimed, unable to hide his surprise. He hadn't expected anything like this from her and now felt the full weight of their challenge weigh on him. "There, now you start showing off!" He laughed, shaking his head.
But he just couldn't give up, he was too unwilling to run around in the morning, and the idea of having his books carried for him was so wanted. "Okay, okay, Accy, I admit, you're not so bad," he said, grinning mischievously. "But sorry to disappoint you I'll be even better." Michael hoped he sounded confident, although in his head he was thinking that it was unrealistic to break that record, certainly not for him at any rate.
He bent down and searched for a rock as smooth and even as the one Accalia had found. After going over a few, he finally picked one that he hoped would fit. Michael felt like the stone should be smooth, oval, and flat. He took a deep breath, trying to remember how she'd done it: calm, a strong enough swing of her hand but not too much, and a wrist movement.
Michael turned around briskly, aiming for the water. He threw the rock with all the concentration he was capable of, he was determined to win. The stone skipped once... and sank. It wasn't even two times, certainly progress, but so far from her result.
He froze for a moment, blinking confusedly. "It's my luck that's going away from me because I'm getting up so early, you're just having better luck today," he mumbled, scratching the back of his head, Michael couldn't take a loss, so he always found excuses. But after a few seconds, he admitted his defeat. "Okay, you won this round today, Accy. I'm not even going to ask you for a rematch so here it is."
Still unhappy with his loss he turned to the girl. "I guess you can make your demands now. But be aware, if we are going to run this early, I'll drag my feet, and then you'll have to carry me to the castle, not my books."
Shaking his head, he added, "And as for mermaids - I have no idea, I've read about them in books, and I can't promise it wasn't fairy tales. I don't know about tea or seaweed biscuits, but if they exist and we ever go swimming, we can ask them ourselves. Although... I'm not sure they'd be particularly happy to answer our questions if we disrupted their underwater tea party," he teased, playing along with her wild imagination. "I also read, they can be a bit..... evil if you disrupt them."Reducio
