Not getting left behind was the main goal in her mind, narrowing her eyes as she checked the time. The train was about to depart and Delaney had just barely managed not to be late. Her family running on 'Filipino time' had transcended even magic deadlines, it seemed. Finding the train platform was a task in itself, taking her a while to figure out what the hell did three quarters even meant. But she had just found her way, following the loads of Hogwarts students loading onto the platform after seeing a few run through a wall- which was undoubtedly the work of magic. Unless she was just crazy.
"You're sure you can't come sooner than Christmas?" Came from her younger sister, Nadine, who had not let go of her tight hold on Delaney's hand. The look in her eyes tugged something in her heart, suddenly getting onto the train could wait a few seconds more. Delaney sank down into a squat, enveloping Nadine in a tight hug, her snug grasp on her sister lingering a moment too long. "Wait for my letters in the post, alright?" Delaney instructed, swallowing a lump in her throat. On Nadine's hesitant but firm nod, she smiled, nodding back to her.
Standing herself back up, she wasn't much surprised to see her mom with her phone in hand, ready to take another 'first day of school' picture of Delaney. With a simple, shake of her head and a half-smile in disbelief, Delaney begged just to get to the train. "I have to go. Surely, you have plenty, I promise," she told her, a hidden plea for her to just let her go. The part of her that wished her dad would've called off work to send her off stirred as she took in the sight of her mom and Nadine a final time before she had to leave. But it faded as her mother wrapped her in a firm embrace. "You're on your own now, Delaney." "I know," Delaney said, confidently enough to affirm herself and her mother, pulling away with a final smile.
With her belongings held tightly to herself, handle clutched firmly in her grasp, Delaney entered the Hogwarts Express. She didn't look back, just pushed ahead. Though part of her felt like a scared little girl who just lost her mom in the grocery store, she tried not to look as though she was a total fool. Despite her mild nervousness, she wasn't anxious about anything to come. When didn't a Magindara thrive under a bit of pressure? If there was anything she trusted in her life, it was herself.
Delaney quickly found the first compartment with an open space and popped into it, meeting eyes with another girl who had already occupied it. "Hope you don't mind, yours is the first compartment with an open seat," she offered, lifting her luggage and stowing it overhead before the girl could even respond. The girl looked nice enough to make for a pleasant compartment partner to ride the rest of the way with. At least she hoped so.( wordcount. → 531 )────────────────────────────────
