Diagon Alley/Ollivanders - Of Chestnut Wood and Dragon Heartstring. 865 words.

Diagon Alley had to be the most magical place Lily-Rose ever visited.
It was not the first time she walked the enchanted street. Growing up, it was a place her grandparents loved to bring her when she stayed over. It was their way of sharing a bit of their world, and Lily couldn't be more thankful for the efforts they put into making it feel like home. Between Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes and Sugarplum's Sweet Shop, Lily never missed a chance to spend her grandfather and grandmother's Galleons on jokes and candies.
This time, it was different, however. She wasn't in Diagon Alley for the fun and the food. She wasn't there to share Butterbeer ice cream with her grandparents at Florean Fortescue's.
She was finally getting a wand. Finally.
She had waited so long for this.
Obviously, she had picked up her books and other school supplies, including her robes, earlier in the day. She was accompanied by her mother who led her through the bodies of parents and students shopping for knicks and knacks the children needed for school.
Stepping into Ollivanders, alone, was only half as scary as the thought of leaving her family behind for an entire year.
After all, the place was a little gloomy and dusty and she wasn't sure someone was there to tend to new customers.
She took this moment of peace, away from the busy street, to pick up on her surroundings. Boxes of all sizes and colours were arranged along the walls in piles Lily could not believe stood of themselves. There were two floors to the shop, like most others she had visited today. This shop, however, was smaller. It was a little more personal and probably handled by one person only.
As if on cue, someone walked up to the desk in front of her.
"And who do we have here?" The man asked, watching Lily-Rose over the glasses that rested at the end of his nose.
"Lily." She gulped. "Lily-Rose Fournier." She announced, trying to sound a little more confident the second time.
The man hummed. "Well, Lily-Rose Fournier, my name is Mr. Ollivanders. I suppose you are here for your first wand. Let me see what we can do." He said rather cheerfully, offering her a smile. He then walked around the desk that stood between them and stepped on the stairs leading to the second floor. He looked at a box, and then another before he pulled one out of a pile. He opened the box as he walked back to Lily.
"Try this. Cherry wood and Dragon Heartstring. A rare wood I would like to think." The man said.
Lily took the wand.
"The wand chooses the wizard Miss Fournier. Give it a wave and let's see if this one chooses you."
She nodded and looked around, aiming at a pile of papers on the desk. She flicked the wand and almost immediately, the pile flew in every direction possible, making a mess of the place. She looked back at Mr. Ollivanders, an apologetic expression on her face.
"I am so sorry sir, I-" But she was interrupted as she handed the wand back to the shopkeeper.
"Don't mind the mess. It's always like this." He chuckled. "But maybe something a little smaller would do you well." He said as he walked past her, waving his wand to fix the mess she had created.
"Now, let me see if I can find it. Where are you?" He questioned no one in particular. Just ... the boxes.
This time, he pulled out a red box, one that was much shorter than others she saw around.
"You see, I very rarely sell wands shorter than eight inches. But I have a feeling this one might be right for you. Chestnut Wood and Dragon Heartstring. Very flexible. Something that goes along well with highly intuitive witches." He explained as Lily reached for the second wand.
While she expected nothing to happen, it was quite the opposite. She felt like her entire body was covered by a warm blanket. It was homey. It was like an instant connection was made between her and her wand.
"I think that's it." She smiled and almost immediately waved her wand at the set of paper once again. This time around, instead of flying everywhere, one of the sheets folded into small bird.
"Wow." Was all she could say. She took a second look at the wand in her hand. It was beautifully carved at the handle. It was also very light in colour.
"Well, it looks like we have a new pair. Congratulations Miss Fournier."
"Thank you, sir." She smiled.
"Is that your mother I see through the window?" He waved the woman inside.
Her mother and Mr. Ollivander exchanged for a few minutes before she paid and they were on their way out.
"Enjoy your first year at Hogwarts Miss Fournier." The man waved them off and disappeared behind the counter as they walked into the crowd.
