“Cecily? Cecily! This stupid bed isn’t fitting through the stupid door!”
With another heave, Ami pulled on the mattress with all of her considerable amount of strength, and with a crunch, the mattress all but snapped in half. Great. Door: 1, Ami: 0.
“Shit, shit, shit,” she muttered under her breath, patting around her pockets for her wand. Frankly, the recent graduates could barely afford the current (albeit, broken) mattress, and there was no way in hell Ami was going to ask her mom to buy them another one. This was her own fault for insisting that the two of them would be able to move in the “good-old fashioned way” with “a little bit of elbow-grease and rizz” like the Muggles did, but in her defense, she had a deep and dark fear that they wouldn’t be able to re-enlarge any items they shrank during the move-in process. Actually, Cecily would probably be able to manage. Ami probably would have a teary-eyed breakdown while attempting to use magic for its intended purpose. However, her insistence on manual labor had clearly led to a small amount of distress, with several springs now poking out of the mattress fabric.
“Leo, stop being a useless paperweight and help me here please before she notices she’sgonnakillbothofus,” Ami hissed at her cat, who was currently staring at her from inside the flat with a blank stare. Ah, yes— nothing like a healthy amount of fear of your ex to keep a girl in line. “Aha! You’re off the hook for now, buddy.” Finally locating her wand (as well as an empty pack of gum and three hair ties), she gave it a few good whacks before pointing it at the mattress with no small amount of fear in her eyes. “Reparo?”
The mattress snapped back together, propelling itself off the doorframe and back into the hallway Ami had been trying to drag it into the flat from, smacking against the wall across from their door, all of which elicited a carnal groan of despair from the redhead. “Cecily, I need your help,” she called out into the empty abyss of their flat, using the same pleading-whining tone a helpless six-year-old would with a parent. “The mattress is fighting back.”

There’s Only One Bed! (Not Clickbait) (GONE WRONG)
Move in the Muggle way, Ami had said. It'll be fun. Cecily wasn't entirely sure what definiton of "fun" lived in Ami's mind, but the Muggle way of packing up all her belongings to move across the sea had gotten very old very quick. And so far, the unpacking had not been much more pleasant. No one ever talked about just how many boxes and bags were involved in moving one's entire life to a new country. She understood that neither she nor her friend had the greatest track record with academics, but she figured that the possibility of having some permanently-shrunk dishware was worth the risk, and anything was better than the ridiculous manual labor they were putting themseleves through. They were witches, after all. Wasn't the point of magic that they didn't have to do things the Muggle way?
Cecily heard her name called from across the flat and did her absolute best to ignore it. She knew for a fact that the stupid bed would fit through the stupid door. In fact, she'd measured it in advance just to make sure. She'd given Ami the most straightforward tasks, knowing that what her friend made up for in brute strength she lacked in critical thinking skills-- but as a child might, her newly-adult friend seemed to choose the hardest possible method at every turn. Cecily didn't see how this should become her problem; and yet, after seven years of friendship, she knew that she would inevitably be dragged into it against her will. At least it was nice to know some things would never change.
At the sound of yet another plea for help, she decided that she should probably go see what the issue was this time before Ami broke something, or worse. Sighing, she begrudgingly setting down the bedframe she and Remington had been in the midst of assembling in the bedroom (well, Remington had been mostly trying to eat the screws, which was somewhat counterproductive to the ultimate goal, but he was great for morale). Standing to supervise her dear friend through yet another endeavor, Cecily was beginning to have some regrets about the way they'd decided to handle this move-in. Maybe she'd severely underestimated the patience she would have for the redhead when they'd agreed to move in together, and play for the same Quidditch team, and generally spend all of their time around each other. It was just that... well, there was a reason their relationship had only lasted two weeks. A little Ami went a long way.
Rounding the corner, she found Ami and Leo standing helplessly in the hall over a mattress that seemed to be doing anything but fighting back. "Merlin, Ami. I don't know, it looks pretty harmless to me," she joked with a wry grin. She looked at Ami and back towards the mattress, then towards Ami again. Just a bit exasperated at the idea of even having to offer this suggestion, she continued, "Have you tried just... turning it around?" Leaning down, she lifted up the long end of the mattress, fitting the short end through the doorframe and guesturing to Ami to help her give it a shove until it was reasonably inside the flat. "There. Now help me finish the bedframe so we actually have somewhere to put this." Pivoting from her previous tactics that clearly were not effective, Cecily decided that perhaps if she just kept the loose cannon within her sights, they might be able to get things done with some amount of efficiency.

There’s Only One Bed! (Not Clickbait) (GONE WRONG)
Ahoy! Her knight in blonde and disgruntled armor. Alas, her savior seemed to have no sympathy for her struggles, although Ami figured that she had unintentionally soured her new roommate's mood after nearly punching a hole through the floor with her beater's bat when they found a lone cockroach. In her defense, the lease contract hadn't mentioned any existing tenants they would have to manually evict, but such is life! It wouldn't be a far stretch to say that her antics (or, in her words, her "skibidi sigma grindset") likely had only made the move-in process more tedious and thus crankied Cecily's knickers even further, but it was fun to spend time together with her ex-girlfriend and current best friend and future teammate!
Ami blinked herself out of her internal tornado of thoughts as Cecily addressed her. Turning it around? She watched Cecily's measly, wimpy arms struggle to lift the mattress before rotating it, and suddenly the light bulb went off in Ami's head. The red string was connected. "Oh..." she realized, finally putting the pieces together of Cecily's rather vague (read: incredibly specific but lasted more than 10 seconds so Ami didn't listen) instructions. "Yeah, I got you." Stepping back out into the hallway and next to Cecily, the two easily slid the mattress the rest of the way into the flat, shutting the door behind them.
"You haven't finished the bedframe yet?" Ami scoffed as Cecily doled our her next task. Right, as if she would've been able to finish it any faster. "I suppose I could help. Leo, go find Remy and make sure he doesn't get squashed by the legs, okay?" Leo scampered off, nose to the ground as he searched for his scaly friend, while Ami crouched by the bedframe.
Notice: the bedframe. Not the instructions.
"Seems straightforward enough," she commented, lying through her teeth. "Let's knock this out real quick. What needs to be done, captain?"
At that moment, Leo nudged his head against Ami's leg, noticeably Remington-less. Most of the time, when Leo and Remington hung out, Cecily's little lizard would either be carried in Leo's mouth or clutching onto his back or head, which lead Ami to believe that Leo had failed to locate his lizard friend. "Cecily, where's Remington? Leo's never gonna leave us alone long enough to finish this if he's not entertained or occupied."
