It was that time of day again. Emily's classes were over and that signalled the opportunity of one thing; feeding time! Emily skipped about the Grounds in an ecstatic mood. It was the eve of her birthday which already had her in high spirits well beforehand - there was only so long before she would tire of being 12 years old. And as such came with the excitement of an early birthday present granted to her on the final few days of the summer. Her cloak pockets were packed with bread and nuts, a few slices of fruit in her small bag and with a new addition to the stockpile. Owl treats.
While she left plenty of dried treats for owls during the times she would be out feeding the wildlife, these treats in particular were for a very special bird. Her very own special owl. Bestowed upon her by "Auntie" who decided to let Emily return to Hogwarts with a trusted companion that would look out for her whilst she was stuck back in Belfast.
Sure enough, said owl was flitting and flapping between the ground and the branches while Emily deposited small piles of food in her designated spots across the campus. The Eastern Screech saw her Hufflepuff mama place a small collection of seeds at the base of a tree. She waited until her back was turned before she flew down to it. Had it not been for her chirping, the pile of seeds would've been demolished.
"Tavra! Leave them be!"
A disappointing chirp came out of the owl before she retreated to the branches. It wasn't the first time Emily had to stop Tavra from pecking away at food for the animals they were left out for. At the same time, Emily was a sympathetic soul and dug into the owl treats from which she lifted two out.
"C'mere you. If you were looking for snackies, you should've asked," she smiled at her new owl buddy. Tavra, rejuvenated with spark, flew down to Emily's shoulder where she nibbled at the owl treats offered to her. With an affectionate nuzzle into Emily's neck and hair, the duo continued on their way.
After most of the food was laid along the branches and grass, Emily took a break on a tree stump where Tavra got comfortable in her hands. Emily's delicate fingers stroked and petted Tavra as she roosted in her palms. She looked down at her owl friend lovingly.
"How fortunate I am to have a companion like you, sweetpea..."
She brought Tavra up to her cheek to let her nuzzle into her, the fibres of her furry body tickling her face. Though they've only known each other a couple weeks, they were as close as any man and their best friend.

@Reyna EvergreenDate - 07/09/24 WC 440/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts The first week of their second year had been going quite well, the lessons had been fun and the contents wasn't that much more difficult than the year before. Mylo knew that that would most definitely be changing and that homework would most likely start piling up, so taking advantage of the fact they had a bit of free time he decided to go out for a walk.
Mylo had been spending quite a lot of time with their new cat, Ash, which they had gotten as a present from their parents at the beginning of the summer holidays. He was quite an odd cat, sometimes very clingy and other times not even wanting to be looked at, Mylo thought it might be to do with the fact that Ash was still quite young and was adapting to life as well, but they respected Ash's wishes and let him guide them on what to do.
Today Ash was feeling very clingy and so Mylo decided to take him with them on his walk, Ash immediately jumping on top of their shoulders and kind of perching himself on there. He'd done that a few times before and Mylo was never quite sure if he was actually comfortable up there, but Ash was still small so he fit decently and Mylo didn't mind too much so he let him do it.
Walking down to the grounds Mylo started walking towards some trees they had often found solace in during his first year, enjoying the peace they gave and the secluded feeling without having to wander too far.
Ash was enjoying the walk, if the purring that Mylo was constantly hearing in their ear was any indication, and kept lazily looking around. As Mylo approached the trees he saw another student already sitting on a log that was there, holding an owl in her hands. He knew that Ash was good with birds and didn't seem to have a singular hunting braincell to be found, but others didn't know that and cats were known to hunt birds. So keeping their distance, still wanting to sit in by the trees to clear their mind a bit, they looked over to the girl.
"Hey, Ash here is really good with birds, he doesn't hunt or anything." He said, pointing at the cat perched on their shoulder. "Do you mind if I come and sit around here as well? I could sit a bit further away if that makes you more comfortable." He added, being okay with the girl telling them to go sit somewhere else, but hoping that she would let them sit with her.

Tavra continued to shower her Hufflepuff mother with affection as her fluffy body tickled her neck and face endlessly with her nuzzles and rubs. Emily was struggling to keep upright as she felt the tingle of Tavra's fur against her, making her giggle as they shared in their moment of buddy-ship.
A voice came up from behind them and upon turning her head to see, Emily saw the strangely familiar yet equally unknowing face of a student, a black cat perched on their shoulders almost identical to the way Tavra was to Emily. It was like looking through a dimensional paradox. When they asked to join them, Emily didn't even hesitate to invite them in.
"Please! By all means! Tavra here is quite the affectionate type herself, so be careful... She just might fly over and peck you with love...!" As much as Emily was laughing it off as a partial joke, she wasn't going to play down the slightly more seriousness of it at the same time. She still remembers the first few days when Tavra was warming up to her new surroundings back home that she would peck Emily and "Auntie" gently to shower them with beaky kisses. It was adorable and slightly sore at the same time. Still, it was the thought that counted, which was why Emily was no less smitten with the little fluffy bird.
She caught sight of the cat on their shoulder. Her affinity for animals was most definitely noticeable for the student that came to sit down as Emily watched the cat, enamoured by it. "Such a beautiful creature...!"

Reyna loved going for runs. It was something she had missed over the summer. Runs at Hogwarts were amazing. She would start by going through the Great Hall and then racing through the Courtyard, Grounds, and all the way down to the Great Lake. Of course her fluffy cat Argentum accompanied her. She had bounds and bound of energy and she needed to get it out. So Reyna was on her way back from her second run of her third year back through the grounds when she stopped to take a swig of water. She noticed now that the ground were well, a lot more full. There was a hufflepuff girl, younger than her sitting on a bench with an owl. And then there was another person who she sort of recognized from somewhere. The person had a cat on their shoulder. The two of them seemed to be talking. Argentum being the energetic one speed ran up to cat and started meowing on him. Reyna sighed. She ran to her cat and grabbed her scolding Genie. "Genie, you don't want to hurt this innocent person!". Genie gave a pouty face. Great. How could someone ever resist her cute face? Reyna sighed again and turned to the two people. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt your conversation but Argentum who I call Genie loves all kinds of animals, she doesn't mean any harm. She's really energetic, if you can't tell." Reyna smiled. Her cutie cat always led her to new places, and led her to making new friends. Would this time lead to something like that? She hoped so. She hugged Genie close to her face and looked at the others, hoping maybe they would offer her to stay. |

Mylo wasn't sure what they were actually expecting the girl to think but was glad it wasn't a hostile reaction.
"As long as she doesn't go for Ash I think we'll all be fine." Mylo smiled at the half warning half joke the girl said, going to sit down across from her. As soon as they were sat Ash decided to reposition himself, finding that Mylo's shoulder apparently wasn't good enough, and moved to sit down in his lap. Turning around a few times, with more claw than necessary, before finding the perfect spot to sit down and relax.
The girls remark on Ash's beauty made Mylo smile a bit, black cats were known to be seen as evil and he just didn't get it, so to have their sitting buddy commenting on his beauty left Mylo a little less scared than they were. They hadn't even realised that it was a concern that had been on his mind.
"Yeah, he is quite pretty. Yours too, I love the colours on them." He said, but before they could get much further in their conversation another cat came up and started meowing at Ash, who seemed to not really be in the mood for it, immediately turning his head and letting out a hiss at the newcomer.
"Hey, it's okay Ash, you're fine." Mylo immediately started saying to Ash, making sure he wasn't about to start a verbal fight. Because although Ash didn't have an ounce of hunter in his blood he could still hiss like the best before cowering away and leaving.
"Sorry about that, he's in a bit of a weird mood today. And I don't mind at all." Mylo said, noting that Genie was indeed very energetic. "She's gorgeous by the way." They said, admiring the colouring on the newcomers cat.

Another student arrived with a fluffy buddy of her own. Emily recognised her as a fellow Hufflepuff, though fell shameful when she couldn't remember her name. The fellow Huffie's cat came up with all the cuteness they carried with themselves before she pulled them away gently, tossing apologies at them. Emily shook her head, laughing at the situation.
"There's no need to apologise! Your little friend there hasn't interrupted anything at all, and neither have you." She was glued to the frivolous feline held tight in the Huffie's arms. Emily wished she was in her position right now; whenever she saw a pet of any kind, she just had to snug them. A slight contrast to her Ravenclaw associate who's cat seems to be weary of their new rival. "I think both your cats are lovely!"
Emily would say that about any cat. Scratch that. She'd say that about any animal.
Tavra wasn't bothered in the slightest, instead getting cuddly and cosy in Emily's lap. Emily's fingers massaged her little noggin and brushed softly against her fragile wings, earning loving chirps from her companion. She kept Tavra occupied with her pets and tickles while the other two complimented each other's cats. Though not before one of the cats turned away from the other in distrust. Cats will be cats, Emily thought silently.
And Tavra was still relishing in her tickle time in the midst of it all.

Reyna let Genie down now that she was a little less hyper. It was nice of the two of them to let her stay. She was also glad that she had not disturbed them in any way. She smiled at them happy that she had someone to talk to. "Oh no it's perfectly fine! My cat is in a weird mood a lot so I get the feeling! And Ash, is gorgeous as well! You don't see many black cats around here so I think Ash is really unique!" Reyna replied to the Ravenclaw. At least she assumed the person was a Ravenclaw. She then smiled at the Hufflepuff. "Thanks! Your owl is super pretty as well, what's the name of the owl?" She joined the others on the bench but made sure that Genie was not being hyper again. "I'm Reyna, 3rd year Hufflepuff by the way, and you guys are?" After all if she was going to be talking to these fellas then she did need to know their names. She was glad that she was resting. The fun that she had taken was exhausting. Especially because she had had to chase after Genie so many times. It was nice that she was sitting down here, with new people. Ones who she hoped would become her friends. She liked this feeling. |

Interacting with @Emily Shephard | @Reyna Evergreen Date - 07/09/24 WC 323/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts As the new girl came to sit with them Mylo continued to fuss Ash, they had noticed that with their newest friend by their side some of the anxious feelings they would get around other people had started to wane a bit. Leaving them ever so slightly less anxious around others, making conversations like these slightly less awkward. Thinking back to how he might have stuttered through a few sentences last year, while this time round it went smoothly made them grateful to have Ash by his side.
Although the new girls comment about not seeing many black cats did surprise Mylo, as they had seen a few already. Although it might just be that he was in the right place at the right time to see them. "Oh, I've seen a few before. Might be lucky I guess." He said as the girl came and sat next to them. Although as she introduced herself a bit of the old anxiety came back. Damn, I didn't introduce myself, what if they think I'm rude. That's something you're supposed to do before you come and sit next to people."
Trying to not make it obvious they took a deep breath and continued to pet Ash, deciding it was better late than never to introduce themselves.
"Uhm, yeah, sorry I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Mylo, second year Ravenclaw. " Stopping themselves before they decided to tell the others they were a prefect, for some reason Mylo nearly added the word onto the end of their introduction, but that wasn't something you'd need to add to it. Especially not with people who were here for relaxing and time with their pets. They weren't even sure why they would have wanted to add that in. Their thoughts still racing they continued to pet Ash, not having stopped since the last bit of anxiety, and forced a smile onto their face. Hoping the others hadn't noticed anything.

"Mylo... And Reyna..." Emily repeated, testing out their names and logging them into her social memory bank. She knew she had seen both of them floating about in the corridors before between classes; at the same time she was surprised she didn't learn Reyna's name sooner. Perhaps she was spending longer than she thought away from her own Hufflepuff peers if she couldn't recognise immediately that they were classmates in the same House. Mylo was also another familiar face though Emily couldn't confidently say they knew each other well either.
She smiled back at them nonetheless, pleased to have made their acquaintance all the same. "I'm Emily! Second year Hufflepuff." She gave a friendly wink to her Hufflepuff associate beside her before applying another soft pet to Tavra. "This feisty little thing is Tavra. I only just got her a couple weeks ago yet we already get along like a house on fire!"
Tavra took the opportunity to then climb up Emily's shoulder and face before roosting on top of her head, her talons only poking slightly into Emily's noggin and mussing up the ribbon keeping her hair up. Emily rolled her eyes and giggled. Same daffy owl, different day.
She's just showing off now.
"Aye sure, make yourself at home up there, why don't you!"
While Tavra snuggled upon Emily's head, Emily herself cast her eyes down to the others' cats, smiling thoughtfully.
"I was very nearly going to buy a cat... Might've got myself a black one if Tavra didn't win me over with her cutesy antics...!"

Reyna nodded at the Ravenclaw. Black cats were rare. But they were around here. Maybe she just hadn't noticed. She would take more time to notice the animals around her. She didn't do that as often. She barely did it with her surroundings. Maybe she should take breaks more often and just enjoy Hogwarts. Yes, she would do that. Reyna was glad to know the two new people's names. She didn't just want to call them, "the Hufflepuff" and "the Ravenclaw". Honestly, she was surprised she hadn't known Emily's name. On the otherhand, she was not. She did forget things quite a lot nowadays. She smiled at Emily. "Tavra is a really nice name! Why'd you choose Tavra?" she asked. She giggled as Tavra showed off. Genie would show off too if she wasn't tightly wrapped up in her hands right now. She was not going anywhere. No more trouble for this little fella today. "You sure have bonded a lot! It's a good thing you got her! And Genie did the same for me. Her playful nature and energy reminded me of my dog back home and so I got her. Although she does make me a bit homesick..." She sighed. She then proceeded to rub Genie's fur and smile. Genie made her smile. She was the sweetest after all. |
