Why do crowds even exist?? Can't people be normal and orderly and-  pv
---------------------

Evpraksiya didn't hold much fondness for crowds.

Loud, boorish, and always tainted with the faint possibility of rampant diseases, the heiress didn't wish anything to do with them and did her utmost to avoid the large stampedes of people whenever she could. But, of course, there was no avoiding the unavoidable—and crowds in one of the sole magical shopping districts in London when everyone was about to go back to school were exactly that: unavoidable and inevitable. It might have been a bit discourteous of her to think that way, but Evpraksiya didn't want to be associated with the rabble.

But despite all that, she, a Vinogradova and still had a duty to fulfill even if her parents weren't available. She was going to go to Hogwarts this year! If she weren't mature enough to buy her own school supplies after being left alone with and without Ulyana for years it'd would be very embarrassing sight indeed. It was for that reason Evpraksiya had pleaded for Nanny Ulyana to stay in the upscale café beside the alley while she went to buy her school supplies. Ulyana, as Ulyana always did, worried and tutted over her safety even as she acquiesced reluctantly.

However, currently, as sacramento green eyes glared darkly at the back of the men who'd so rudely bumped into her and ran off- not even bothering to apologize!- she couldn't find it in herself to regret her rude thoughts one bit! The emerald green ribbon Ulyana had tied her hair with earlier that day was knocked askew which, while awfully inconvenient, could be fixed but her stationery! And precious books! All of which were carefully selected (all by herself!) were now knocked into the dirty mud!

The little girl's pale pink lips twitched, on the verge of peeling back into a snarl that her etiquette tutors would have some choice words for, but she knew better. She- she was in a crowded area and it would be horrifically unladylike for her to pursue or otherwise cause a scene. So Evpraskiya dug her neatly manicured nails into her delicate palms and bit her tongue, staring down at the scattered mess.

(murder was illegal. she was not capable of murder. but by Baba Yaga did she not want to at least try-)

Lea probably should have bought her books earlier.

She had every opportunity to do so and keeping out of the house was the motive of the summer lest the teen actually forgive her parents for the information they witheld. Nor did she have an excuse of not knowing next year's course material considering there were some very big tests coming up that put a heavy importance on class decisions. No, it was exactly because of that stress that the upcoming Fifth Year kept away from the bookshop until the first few weeks before school, not wanting to think of just how much studying awaited her at Hogwarts. Just why were the requirements for some jobs so rigorous? Surely her school duelling career illustrated adaptability and spell mastery better than another class could.

But here she was now, inhaling her last breath of personal space as dark eyes scanned the signs hung above shops for Flourish and Blotts, list folded in hand with a mix of required readings and some personal academic books. A few steps forward and the crowd swallowed Lea into its mass, hiding the scrunched face she made as she- now expertly from her time in the Hogwarts corridors- maneuvered through the people, spitting her out to witness pages turned brown by the muck on the ground. In the middle of the destruction stood a girl Lea had never witnessed within the halls and yet another figure seemed to rush away from the scene, someone she didn't see long enough to determine who.

"Just running off?" Lea scoffed, staring at where the culprit once had been. With nothing much else that she could do about that, the Hufflepuff's attention turned to the child in front of her who seemed rather distressed as they stared at the floor. A cleaning charm would solve this problem easily enough yet despite being surrounded by wizards that wasn't much of an option with her not being allowed to cast anything over summer. A quick glance around didn't find a guardian stepping forward, so it would have to be Lea.

With a small sigh, the teen squatted down to organize some of the stationary into a small pile, attempting to rub off some of the mud in the process with a grimace. The effort didn't show in the result, instead turning her attention to look up at the other. "I'm sure a little magic could clean up this mess- are you hurt at all?"

Evpraksiya stared vacantly at the floor, breathing slightly unevenly as the shattered remains of her perfectly planned day were left scattered on the filthy cobble. In the back of her mind, she vaguely acknowledged yet another blurry figure who made their way out from behind her, expecting them to move along with the crowd. It certainly was a pleasant surprise when the brunette (gosh, her hair was pretty) stopped to help. She didn't recognize the kind older girl who seemed to be rather... tired? Frustrated...? Although most probably not at her—thank the vila for small mercies.

"Ah—no! I'm alright, thank you very much," the Vinogradova said, embarrassment hot and flustering as she crouched down gracefully to help clean up her own mistake. She hesitated for a split second before carefully clasping her dress with a dainty hand to make sure it didn't touch the muddy ground—perhaps a pointless measure, but the blonde still kept some measure of pride as she snatched her books up from the all-devouring muck, the dirt clinging to her fingertips.

With the majority of her things in hand (she assumed the brunette had everything else), Evpraksiya distantly conceded that when she met back up with Ulyana, she'd have to ask for help in clearing up the mud on the dirtied books. Logically, there wasn't anything she could have done about hooligans running around. Though that didn't mean it wasn't anything short of infuriating. Perhaps her parents wouldn't look down on her for this incident, but they trusted her with this, didn't they? And Evpraksiya had let them down. The girl let out a sigh that came out a shade harsher than she intended as she slowly stood up, frowning at the slight flecks of mud on her dress.

With the unfortunate necessities over, Evpraksiya could finally take the time to look at the kind stranger properly. Amber eyes, a straight nose, slightly downturned lips, and rather prominent eyebrows. Pretty, but not with the sort of polish Evpraksiya knew was expected of children from more traditional pureblood families—but the older girl had helped her, and it would be disgraceful to be rude. "I'm awfully sorry for the mess, I wasn't expecting..." She trailed off, grimacing slightly at the imprints her books left behind in the mud, "—that. I really appreciate your help!"

There was the awkward pause as the child attempted piecing themself together while Lea wondered how long she should actually be kneeling down on the dirty ground. Her eyes flicked between the girl and where the books lay, debating if she could make her current pile within her hands larger and if she should bother. Thankfully it wouldn't take long for the blonde to figure it out, moving with far more grace and caution as she grabbed the rest of the items on the ground. Now it was just the awkward shuffle as Lea didn't want to stand over the stranger yet had no more business with the ground- the other crowds nearby weren't helping the girl feel any more comfortable being half their height. Thankfully the other had spoken up, a response serving as a distraction from the Hufflepuff's standing conundrum.

"That is good to hear. No worries- I wouldn't want them soaking in the mud much longer than they have to." She kept her gaze towards the ground as the final books disappeared into the other's arms, watching them through her periphery as she tried guessing a bit more about them and awaited the next cue on what to do. There was an almost ethereal quality to the girl besides her- not uncommon for Hogwarts yet always curious- and a decorum that the Fifth Year couldn't quite decipher where it came from. Regardless, the sigh let Lea know they were done with the mess.

Finally could the Hufflepuff return to standing, moving the stationary to one side as she bent back down to brush the knees of her khaki pants just in case it kept some of the wrinkles or dirt. Lea had started to care more about appearance and aesthetics but it felt more important in the company she now held. She shuffled slightly with the pause, awaiting some sort of guidance as to where the items should go or if this person knew someone who could magic the dirt away. The thanks was nice but not what she was looking for.

"You didn't put the mud there." The teen shrugged, "but you are welcome. Do... you know of someone who can remove the mess?" Another quick scan of the crowd once again didn't find an obvious parent or guardian so Lea tacked on, "We could potentially ask someone inside so long as none of it gets on their floors."
