Lilith Harlow | First Year | Hufflepuff
Full Name: Lilith Béla HarlowHouse: HufflepuffWand: 29,0 cm cherry wood and unicorn hairSchool Year: 1stPatronus: N/ASpecies: HumanHistory/Background Story: Lilith was born somewhere in Hungary as a product of infidelity to Valencia Harlow and Marius Thorne (the adulterer), her mother pointedly informed her father that she wanted him to have nothing to do with her and her newborn daughter but after a bit of begging on his part she agreed to let him and her daughter’s half siblings see Lilith every now and then.
Tragedy struck not even 2 years later as Lilith’s mother was tragically killed on the job by a dark wizard who fled shortly after, and Lilith was sent to Ireland to live with her father and the rest of her..family. The reason for her mother being killed was for both her known hatred of the dark arts and her advocation for magical creatures to be treated fairly. She wasn’t killed by death eaters, just by an enraged pureblood trying to make a point, whatever that point may have been. Before her mother’s death, no one could get Lilith to stop talking but after Valencia’s untimely death she only spoke to those she deemed trustworthy, thankfully she is only selectively mute and not overall mute. Her father tried to bond with her as the years went on but his attempts were hindered by Lilith finding out through the whispers of house elves the origin of her birth and how it affected his wife, her step mother. Unfortunately for Marius Thorne it resulted in him no longer being as trusted by Lilith as he used to be.
As young as she was, she knew that cheating on your partner is a horrible thing to do and she focused more on bonding with the woman than she did her father and half siblings. She was fortunate enough to have a very kind stepmother who after some time came to think of Lilith as one of her own, she was even the one to tutor Lilith. As I said before, Lilith is illegitimate and that for some reason causes all but two of her half siblings to steer clear of her.
She prefers to verbally communicate with her stepmother and the two siblings she does speak to but it’s the notepad for everyone else, even the house elves. Her father despite Lilith barely tolerating him, seen her preference of not speaking to house elves as her being overwhelmed by them, leading to him ordering them to not leave her be. As for why Lilith’s father hasn’t gotten her any help for her choice of speaking to certain people, her father did get help but they were very insistent that Lilith just needs time and will “grow out of it”. Despite the way it sounds Lilith agreed with what they said, she just needs time and soon enough, she once again be the curious girl that no one could get to stop talking. But regardless of her and the people who were assigned to help her insisting that she needs time, Lilith and her father compromised on just having one person (female of course), and while Lilith may deny it, she’s found herself growing fond of the woman and her inquisitive nature.
She grew to enjoy running barefoot through the forest behind her house and being around nature in general and her father, wanting to get in her good graces, got her every plant her heart desired. Not long after she turned 11, her hogwarts letter had came and she literally had never smiled so hard before, it looked like the smile was going to split her face in two.
It was on her fourth birthday, one of her older siblings had been making fun of her for being “technically mute” and was ticking her off. She was rightfully agitated at the comments he was making, he is very much aware of her possessing the ability to speak and that she chooses to speak only to certain people. When she had finally had enough of his taunting, the piece cake he had been holding quite literally blew up in his face. She meant to go tell his mom but it had appeared the problem solved itself. And yes, she did enjoy the rest of her birthday.
