Hogwarts' Overly Progressive Half-Breed Policy Sparks Global Debate

The wizarding world is abuzz as several major magical schools plan to follow Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry's controversial decision almost a decade ago to admit known half-breeds, including dhampirs, part-giants, and part-goblins. It has been a practice in some schools to "look the other way" for certain allegedly harmless and incredibly dilute magical creature parentage. However, Hogwarts has reportedly made the questionable decision of monitoring students with special abilities such as Seer and Parselmouth and actively supporting the development of their unique skills. This bold and dangerous move was initially met with widespread skepticism among wizards, but the mainstreaming of half-breeds in regular wizard classrooms has been rapidly gaining traction, especially in the wake of the Triwizard Tournament.

Hogwarts' decision to integrate half-breeds into its student body marked a significant departure from traditional policies that have long excluded half breeds and inhuman magical creatures capable of magic from formal magical education and even the ownership of a wand. This change to include half-breeds in Hogwarts started under the short tenure of Ackerly Blackburn. Parents lamented the loss of the former headmaster, Zachary Winslow who left Hogwarts to pursue his dream to be an underwear model. Please refer to our January 2018 issue for a full page pin up. This has continued to present day despite several concerning injuries and disasters effecting the student body under Solomon Lear's questionable leadership.

In the wake of Hogwarts' success with half-breed integration, Beauxbatons Academy of Magic in France has announced that they will begin admitting half-breeds such as part-giants and dhampirs in this coming academic year. Former Headmistress Madame Olympe Maxime of Beauxbatons herself was said to be of giant descent. Staff express cautious optimism about the change. "We believe in nurturing talent wherever it may be found. The inclusion of half-breeds in our student body will enrich the magical education we offer and promote a broader understanding of the diverse nature of magical beings."

Durmstrang Institute, known for its focus on the Dark Arts, is also reportedly considering similar half-breed integration into their school. Durmstrang staff has proposed a trial period during which includes admitting a limited number of half-breed students that will remain under close supervision. "Durmstrang has always valued strength and resilience," a spokesperson said. "We believe that by welcoming those who have faced prejudice and hardship, we can cultivate a new generation of wizards and witches who are both powerful and compassionate." A parent speculated that Durmstrang is more interested in strengthening their wizarding force with the unique powers and skills inherent in certain halfbreeds and that their decision is irresponsible and ultimately dangerous to 'true-born wizards.'

Many reactions to this growing trend in wizarding schools have not been positive and have divided the wizarding community. Prominent members of the pureblood community have voiced their outrage, arguing that admitting half-breeds dilutes the purity of magical education. "This is a slippery slope," said Belladonna Malfoy, a well-known socialite and vocal opponent of the policy. "Allowing half-breeds into our schools threatens the traditions that have kept our world safe for centuries. What next? Werewolves in the classroom?"

The concern over werewolf admissions is particularly contentious. While some half-breeds have been welcomed for their unique skills and perspectives, werewolves continue to face severe stigma due to the dangers associated with their condition. Lycanthropy is an incurable condition that can be contracted from a single scratch or bite, incidental or otherwise. Parents across Europe have raised alarms about the possibility of werewolves attending school alongside their children. "It's one thing to admit a dhampir or a part-goblin," said a worried parent from Ilvermorny. "But a werewolf? What guarantees do we have that our children will be safe during the full moon?" Parents have went on to cite that children are by nature not particularly reasonable creatures, when you add a violent curse into the mix, this can spell disaster.

It is the Prophet's opinion that there would be no assurances. That the proximity of a single known werewolf in and of itself carries an inherent risk to the student body.

In response to these concerns, educators have taken extensive measures to ensure the safety and integration of werewolf students in Hogwarts, including the use of the Wolfsbane Potion and secure facilities during the full moon. Headmaster Solomon Lear has reassured parents that the school remains committed to the well-being of all its students, regardless of their background and boasts a sterling record of safety involving werewolves.

As more schools contemplate following Hogwarts' lead, the debate over the inclusion of half-breeds in magical education will likely intensify. Accidents involving half breeds will be intensely scrutinized and it is our fear that irresponsible administration, inadequate staffing and the inclusion of students that are simply too dangerous to keep in the same setting as normal wizarding children will result in disaster.

Some stories should never be told...

LONG SHADOWS OVER MOREDELL
Tragedy strikes the Leveret family once more, who find themselves embroiled in yet another murderous plot. Moredell Manor erupted into chaos after Willard Leveret received a suspicious package that is suspected of causing his death. Perseus Grouse, who we reported on last week about his father's troublesome affair with Part-Veela Marine Laurel, was said to be at the scene with other aurors. The nature of Mr Leveret's death is surely being treated with the suspicion of dark wizardry. Some are speculating that this was a revenge plot by way of cursed artefact, an on-the-nose nod to Mr Leveret's past. - He leaves behind his loving wife and three sons, one of which was said to be present during the ordeal.

VILIFYING PRESS TO BLAME?
Yesternoon, the infamous Willard Calder Leveret, was brutally murdered in his home in front of his family. Pictured above, at his last public appearance, arriving at his behind-closed-doors trial, Willard Leveret was a man who many claim had been villified. Leveret, who has served a sentence for: trafficking in cursed objects, corruption and misuse of magic, had been the talk of many in the Wizarding World some time ago. Many claimed that he had come away too lightly, and that he should have been charged with the murder of a half-blood at the scene where he was discovered.
.─
Calls for his lifetime sentence were met with fierce resistence from many within the Ministry, most notable of which was his esteemed wife he now leaves behind; Cadence Leveret, of the brilliant Norden line. Serving in the Wizengamot at the time of his trial became a contention point, and in her wisdom the Lady of Moredell Manor elected to resign to focus her efforts on proving her husband's innocence. The Venerable Justice, who herself had led a successful career as a lawyer turned policy maker, uncovered her husband's innocence when she demanded a Prior Incantato examination of Mr Leveret's wand which had been siezed at the scene by renowned Auror, Kinnell Langley.
─.
The particulars of the case are not public knowledge but many speculate that Mr Leveret entered a plea deal to unveil the network of dark wizards he smuggled artifacts to, from his role within the ministry. Till his last day, Mr Leveret maintained his innocence and had been reported to have claimed that he had been under an Imperio curse. - He served a commuted sentence and was released from Azkaban a few short years ago, but it seems that such penance was not enough. All eyes are on the investigation to follow, and the family he leaves behind. Perhaps only then, can a new chapter begin.
