A way to channel power
Lucretcia stood outside Ollivander's with her mom and sighed as she looked at the entrance. She looked over at her mother with a withering expression "Remind me again why dad couldn't be here for this?"
Her mother let out a nervous chuckle before speaking in her distinct french accent "Oh you know how he is lucy. He has deadlines to meet and alot of work to do on his latest project. but you know he would love to be here if he could" she smiled and cupped Lucretcia's cheek but it did little to alleviate her mood. With a scoff she put her hands in her jacket's pockets and looked back towards the door.
"I want to go in alone. Discover my wand on my own"
her mother gave her a sad smile but then just reached forward to fix Lucretcia's hair and give her a kiss on the cheek "Ill go get us some snacks for the trip back home then, maybe get myself a new hat"
Lucretcia nodded and walked inside the shop as her mother made her way down the street.
she looked around the store with a curious eye. The place was only lit with candles and lanterns giving it a low but warm lighting. she saw hundreds of wands all over the place but noone else in the store. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to grab one or wait when suddenly there was a voice behind her
"Miss Voll, a curious edge to you eh? not unlike your father. How is he these days?" Ollivander looked at her, an old man with a wise sort of look about him. It was clear he was studying her and not just making conversation.
She scowled and averted her gaze to the side "I'm the last person to know how he's doing. Not that I would care if I knew anyway." she gestured around to the wands. "So which one do I take?"
Ollivander hmmd to himself and gestured for her to follow him into the stacks. A couple wands would exchange hands with nothing happening, each time he would him to himself or make little comments under his breath. Eventually he picked up a little box with an elegant black sheen. with a knowing smile he handed it to her.
She opened the box and looked at the wand inside.
"Cherry wood with dragon heart string. This wood boasts a strange power, but when paired with Dragon heart string it should never be in the hands of any witches or wizards without exceptional self control and strength of mind or else it could be just as dangerous to them as it is to those around them. But with the proper control, the proper wielder it would be able to conjure powerful, potent magic. "
As Ollivander spoke she looked over the wand. It had a smooth carved handle and a notched shaft, smooth and masterfully shaped. She gingerly grabbed it from the box and it almost felt like it had been specifically shaped to fit in her hand as naturally as it sat in her palm. She felt a warmth in her chest and a rich purple light shown from the tip as her hair was blown by unseen wind. There was an odd feeling of familiarity like meeting and old friend. This was her wand.
Ollivander nodded with a smile and slipped the box into Lucretcia's bag then held out his hand for the payment. Almost in a dream state she paid, barely taking her eyes off her wand. With a simple mutter of thanks she made her way outside. She wasnt pulled from her thoughts until she heard her mother call out to her from up the street. Blinking to herself she tucked her wand away and slipped her hands into her pockets once more and walked towards her.
Despite the poking and prodding from her mother Lucretcia would remain tight lipped about her wand, its construction or its apparent meaning. She played it off as it not mattering but she couldnt help but linger on his words.
Self control and strength of mind. Did she have those? Would she be dangerous or would she be powerful? perhaps both. If she could master herself, master her wand...perhaps she could do things with this wand worthy of notice. Whatever would come she now had a way to channel power...time would only tell how constructive or destructive that power would be used for.
