On this grey overcast day Lucretcia felt at peace. No awful sun putting its gold glow on everything, and the smell of rain was in the air. She slipped on simple tank top and a black canvas jacket with moon, cat and rune patches and buttons. She had plain black jeans and her usual mid shin boots. She made sure to grab her messenger bag and sling it over her shoulder before making her way out of the astronomy tower.
When she made it outside she stopped and took a moment to close her eyes and look up towards the sky as she took a deep breath to soak in the smell of rain and enjoy the underlying chill. She almost felt the twitch of a smile at the corner of her lips before her eyes opened and her usual detached expression fell back into place.
She walked for a bit until she finally came upon the spot by the lake and she tilted her head. The dark waters kept the secrets of what lay underneath well and the wind pushed little waves along in a calm and relaxing fashion. She had heard stories that there was apparently a giant squid that hid somewhere in this lake and she couldnt help but think about all the stories and legends of giant squids attacking and sinking ships out on the ocean. Inspiration hit in that moment and she found a spot on the grass to sit down.
she opened up her bag and pulled out her art notebook and flipped to an empty page before grabbed a couple of her sketching pencils. She tucked one behind her ear and she began to sketch, doing faint lines for the water and what would soon become the giant squid. While it would take a good amount of time she had no classes for a few hours so she was content to work.

Matilde looked up at the sky through the window beside her bed, wondering if it was going to rain. Her little gray bunny, Pepper, seemed to think so- she was perched on the edge of Matilde's bed, appearing to look out the window with her owner, one ear twitching side to side. Matilde knew the bunny was tired of being cooped up in her dorm, as Matilde hadn't taken her outside since they'd arrived back at school. A little dark sky had never stopped the young Hufflepuff before, had it? She stuffed a raincoat into her bag, just in case, tucked Pepper under her arm, and headed outside.
Matilde headed over to one of her favorite spots on the Hogwarts grounds, just by the lake. The day was a peaceful one, and many other students were spread out around her, enjoying the break. Matilde noticed a girl sitting a little ways away from her, sketching. Matilde hadn't yet met everyone in her year, but she didn't think she recognized this girl at all. Maybe a first year? Matilde smiled, remembering the day, almost exactly a year ago now, she had met Kaitlyn. She too had been sketching when Matilde had come up to her to introduce herself. Kaitlyn had become one of Matilde's first friends at Hogwarts. Maybe this was the reason the girl decided it couldn't hurt to introduce herself to this girl too.
Matilde got up from beneath the tree, and walked slowly toward her. She looked over the girl's shoulder at the sketchbook. "What are you drawing?"

Lucretcia was partially through adding some more detail to the giant squid she was drawing when she heard a voice from over her shoulder and she jumped slightly, surprised someone had actually come up to her to try and talk. She turned to look and saw a girl with a green sweater and bag. Slytherin perhaps? without robes there was no way to know for sure. What stood out even more was the grey rabbit under her arm. Lucretcia didn't know you could have pets like that, she thought it was just owls cats or toads. Something to look into.
She looked back at her drawing and shrugged some before speaking, her tone a bit cold but not confrontational. "I heard there is a Giant squid so...trying to draw that." she turned her notebook to show what she had been drawing so far. It was clear she had never seen whatever squid was supposed to be in the lake and she was going more off generic squid design with some minor adjustments.
"I'm not in your spot or anything am I? I can go somewhere else, I got the gist of the lake shape by now" She started putting some things back into her messenger bag, anticipating being told to clear off. and trying to just avoid a confrontation if it were to come to that.

Matilde looked at the girl’s drawing. It didn’t really look specifically like the giant squid at Hogwarts, but it certainly wasn’t a bad drawing. “Oh yes, the squid is class. I’ve never seen more than a few tentacles at a time peeking out of the water myself, but it’s always so special to see it. You’ll definitely get to catch a glimpse of it soon enough.”
The girl seemed to be under the impression that Matilde had been wanting her to move. She actually started putting away her things. “Oh no, you’re not in my spot at all, carry on.” Matilde said quickly. She felt bad. This girl was clearly a first year from the way she had talked about the giant squid. She was probably already feeling shy and homesick and Matilde had now made her think she was in the way.
“I’m Matilde, by the way. Oh, and this is Pepper,” she said, gesturing to her rabbit. She held her out to the girl so she could pet the little bunny if she wanted to.
Matilde leaned against the tree, twirling a strand of strawberry hair in her fingers thoughtfully. “How do you like Hogwarts so far?” She asked the girl.
