Time: Backdating to last week of school

Elizabeth was walking towards her common room alongside a girl who, based on descriptions from owls sent through the school to each other, was Scout Fu-Hai. They were walking a bit slower than the others because they were having a conversation.

"You look good! A little different than I expected but in a good way." Elizabeth commented as she glanced at Scout. It was true, she had been expecting a fashion style of hair but it looked like she had just let it flow down her back.

"Do you make secret braids underneath the hair? I can't do braids 'cause I have curls. But I like curls, they're fun." She continued and smiled as she twisted a lock of her hair. "I've been wondering if I should attempt to do braids though. Do you think I should?"

She paused, trying to give Scout a chance to answer her questions unlike other times she had been talking. Of course, none of her friends had thought she talked too much but this was, so far, the shortest she had started off a conversation. She hoped it would get better with time like her mom had said it would. All she could do was wait and see.

"Really? What'd you think I was gonna look like?" Scout asked, tilting her head. She thought her name resembled her face pretty well! But... to be fair, what was the name 'Scout' supposed to look like? Maybe dark hair instead of red? But Scout did have dark hair! She and her dad just dyed over it. Red looked much cooler than black, too. "I think you look like an Elizabeth. They always have curly hair in my eyes. But I think they usually have brown hair instead of red."

Braids... braids... braids... Scout had never really done them, her hair had always been too short for braids. When she was younger and her hair was long, her would put her hair in buns instead of braids. He said they looked cuter, although Scout wasn't sure if she believed that. Buns were also much easier to do than braids, and her grandma also always did them... did her dad just not know how to braid hair?

"My hair is too short to braid. It's actually kind of too short to do anything." But she could wear hair clips! Even if they weren't a part of her everyday outfits, she liked putting rabbits and cats or sparkle clips in her hair. "Have you tried straightening your hair? My 妈妈mum straightens her hair every morning before work with magic. If I knew how she did it I'd totally teach you." Unfortunately the only way Scout knew how to straighten hair was the muggle way, which was how everyone in dads family did it.

But they didn't even need to, nobody in her family had curly hair!

"You could try braiding your hair into space buns or something like that! I think it'd look cute." Scout reached up and bunched her hair in her hands to look like buns. "Or you could ditch the straightening idea all together and pull your hair back into a ponytail. That'd look really cute too."

"Well...I thought of black hair. I like the fact that we both have red hair though!" Elizabeth said quickly.

Hm...She had never thought seriously about doing something with her hair...Perhaps that would be something to talk to her mom about before she got too crazy with her hair. She didn't want to get on her mom's bad side which she had experienced once before when she was younger.

"One time I got short hair and then realized that I was too hot without it so I let it grow back out. But it was cute. I like your hair, it reminds me of how mine looked before I didn't like it on me." She said and smiled at the memory. "I suppose I could straighten my hair...Would it grow back into curls every day even if you keep straightening it?" She did like her curls...perhaps she would keep them forever.

"Perhaps someday I will do that, it would be so cute! But I do want to look grown-up too." Elizabeth put on an impression of a grown-up, strutting about with their fancy hair. "Not really sure about the ponytail idea but if I'm so desperate I could try it out."
