Diagon Alley, Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor

“somewhere far, far away
beyond the crowds and city lights”
LIKE every growing preteen, Rhea Bishop craved ice cream. One could even say it was her favorite treat; she could eat as many scoops as she wanted and never get sick. Preferably something with a vanilla or caramel flavor, for those were her favorite.
It took a lot of time, effort, and yelling to finally convince her parents to allow her to go to the ice cream parlor in Diagon Alley. The ice cream there was among the best she’d ever had - and they had her most favorite type of ice cream ever - vanilla ice cream with large, hard, caramel chunks. After the grand fuss her father had created when she’d told him of her sorting results, he had been adamant on refusing every single one of her requests. Except for this particular solicitation, Rhea had the help of her ex-nanny, Aida Habib. Together, they had managed to convince her father to get over himself and allow Rhea to go to the Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor.
To say that Rhea was excited was an understatement. She had been craving this ice cream ever since the last time she’d had it (approximately a year ago) and now that she was finally getting her wish, Rhea was over the moon happy. When her and Aida arrived in Diagon Alley, Rhea bounded straight ahead and made a beeline towards the parlor, a large smile on her face. She saw a few people her age scattered around the place, and thought that maybe, after she got her ice cream, she would approach them. But for now, Rhea simply focused on getting her craving fulfilled.
Seeing the entrance to the parlor in sight, Rhea grabbed Aida’s hand and dragged her all the way to the front door. She pushed the doors wide open and stepped in, breathing in the aroma of sweets, the fresh air, and the scent that the different ice creams combined emanated. She turned to look around at Aida and raised an eyebrow pointedly. They had reached an agreement, prior to starting this journey, that Aida would only accompany Rhea to the parlor before leaving to do some shopping around Diagon Alley.
“Yes, yes, I’ll be going now,” Aida huffed but her eyes were twinkling. “I get it, you don’t want your old nanny around while you get some ice cream.” Rhea rolled her eyes.
“You know I love you,” the redhead stated, smiling, and hugged her nanny. The Lebanese woman hugged her back with a smile of her own.
“Alright, alright, I love you too habibti,” Aida chuckled and removed Rhea’s arms from around her torso. “When you’re done, I’ll bet at Madame Malkin’s, most likely. Hala - you know, my sister who just gave birth - wanted me to pick up a few things for the nursery. See you in, what, an hour?”
Rhea grinned and nodded before waving away Aida, who left the parlor grumbling - but playfully. With a smile and a sigh, Rhea went to stand in line. When her turn came, Rhea ordered the vanilla with caramel chunk flavor, her mouth foaming when she saw the barista scooping it into her waffle cone. This might just have been the best day of her life.
When she got her ice cream, Rhea went to find a seat. She found an open table near the middle with four open chairs, one of which she would occupy. As she looked around, Rhea noticed that there were quite a few people who looked familiar, but none that she could actively call out and ask to come sit next to her. Shrugging, the Bishop dug into her ice cream and decided not to approach anyone, unless they approached her first and stroke up a conversation.

Ugh, it’s so hot out, Amanda thought as she walked through Diagon Alley. She despised hot weather, much preferring rainy, or even snowy, days. But there was nothing she could do about it, for it was Amanda couldn’t change the weather no matter how much she wanted to. At least she had a remedy, and that remedy was ice cream.Interactions: Rhea Bishop
Amanda pushed open the door to Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor. This place brings back so many memories. She hadn’t been in this particular ice cream parlor since she was three years old. Her and her family would come once a month and have ice cream sundaes. But then they moved all the way to New York, and there was no way for them to got to Florean Fortescue’s anymore.
Amanda snapped out of her reminiscing and stood in line. When she reached the counter, she pondered over what flavor to get. So many choices... Amanda finally settled on a waffle cone with a double scoop of mint chip. She paid for her ice cream and looked for a place to sit. It was rather busy today. She then spotted a girl that she was somewhat acquainted with, whose name was Rhea. Amanda went and sat down at the table with Rhea. “Hi there, Rhea! Enjoying your summer?” Amanda said, taking a lick of her ice cream.

"it is the sweet simple things in life which are the real ones after all."
HER smile was wide as she bit into her ice cream, the cold sweetness overtaking her mind. She was only focused on consuming the ice cream and cooling off; there was nothing else that was important enough to catch her attention. Not yet, at least. As she was gobbling up the ice cream, she paid no notice to just how fast she was ingesting. All of a sudden, she felt... Brain freeze!
"Ow, ow, ow, ow, brain freeze, oh goodness," Rhea closed her eyes and tried to will it away, but there was nothing she could do except wait. After a few moments of immense discomfort and her brain being numb, she felt feeling return to her temples. "Thank goodness."
Shrugging, Rhea returned to devour the ice cream. She had always had a sweet tooth, and she didn't care what her parents would say - yes, sweets would rot her teeth, but it was worth it. Rhea would die for ice cream. Throwing the fact that she had just had a brain freeze, Rhea went back to wolfing down the ice cream as fast as she could. Soon, she was interrupted by a girl sitting down across from her.
The brunette girl seemed vaguely familiar - maybe she had been in one of Rhea's classes? They had talked a few times, so Rhea would consider them acquaintances. Smiling a great big smile at the girl - her name was Amanda, Rhea recollected - the redhead waved. "Hey! Take a seat," Rhea said, pulling out a chair for Amanda.
Rhea's smile almost faded away when she thought about how to answer Amanda's question. Apart from her father shunning and ignoring her ever since she'd told him she'd been sorted into Gryffindor, it was fine. Nothing particularly wrong - Rhea had basically the entire Manor to do whatever she wanted. No one to do anything with, but Rhea was already used to that. At least she was here at Fortescue's though, right?
"It's been pretty good, actually," Rhea replied, the smile coming back fully onto her face. "I had the entire Manor to myself, basically just able to do whatever I wanted for the majority. And you? Did you stay for the Hogwarts summer camp, or did you go straight back home?"
Almost forgetting about her ice cream because she was so excited that she finally had someone to talk to, after being alone all summer, Rhea picked her cone back up and started to lick it once more. The vanilla had almost melted, but at least the caramel chunks were still intact. Rhea picked a chunk up with her teeth and started to chew it, most of it getting stuck in her teeth.

Amanda noticed Rhea’s smile falter slightly when Amanda asked about her summer. I hope I haven’t said anything wrong. But the smile came back quickly and the other girl answered the question and asked Amanda in turn about her summer. Amanda paused, thinking a bit. “Yeah, I stayed for camp and then I went on a little history excursion with the new History of Magic and Charms professors and some other students. That being said, I only got home recently, so I haven’t really spent that much time with family. We’re moving in two weeks to Faversham, Kent. Right now, though, there’s six of us crammed in a little flat in London while we’re waiting for the house to be ready for us.” Amanda licked her ice cream. She thought about her busy summer. It had been quite hectic, going from one activity to another. Maybe next summer she’d try to cut down on all of the activities.Interactions: Rhea Bishop
“Anyways, are you down here for just the ice cream or have you got errands to run? Personally, I just wanted some ice cream and to get out and about.”

As Rhea listened to Amanda explain her summer, she realized just how boring her own summer had been. She had done... practically nothing. Her ankle had been sprained, so she couldn't practice Quidditch; she couldn't play any pranks because her access to the ingredients and objects needed had been cut off; and she wasn't able to see anyone.
But that wasn't what Rhea was worried about. What she was worried about was what in the world would she tell her friends she did over the summer?! There were no interesting stories to tell, no adventures or injuries or anything that was out of the ordinary. But finally, the idea came. She would make up a story, obviously! Perhaps like she went to the Caribbean, or maybe to China. That was always impressive.
But maybe not as impressive as six entire people living in one flat. Rhea would never be able to do that! And the fact that Amanda was successful and could actually deal with that sort of living was quite respectful. Rhea felt her eyebrows raise and she tilted her head.
"Wow," she said, for lack of better words. "That's impressive. I would never be able to do that! Six people in a single flat? Well at least your next house will be bigger, right? Oh goodness, I could never imagining have to share my space with that many people." Rhea shuddered at the thought.
Taking another lick of her ice creams, Rhea realized that she was almost done. It was melting in her cone and so she had to slurp it quickly, while biting the cone at the same time. How she missed this ice cream. "I'm just down here for ice cream. I've been craving Fortescue's for ever so long. This might, quite possibly, be my favorite ice cream place ever, and I've been to a lot!" Rhea smiled and continued to wolf down her delicious ice cream. "No, I don't have any errands to run. Besides, even if I did, I'd get a house elf to do it! And I'm doing my school supply shopping later on, closer to the school year. Where did you want to go?"

It's not in the stars to hold our destiny, but in ourselves.
Aravis entered the Ice Cream Parlour with out her family as she normally did. It wasn't like they ever came in with her anyway. Maven couldn't eat ice cream, Cal didn't like it, her Aunt and Uncle didn't like Aravis, and her Father was most likely buying things for Alice. Now that the white haired girl thought about it- her family never went anywhere with her. So here she was standing alone at the counter about to purchase her favorite food.
Aravis waited in line and pretended to look at all the different flavors. She had picked what she wanted before she had even entered the store. Mint chocolate chip ice cream. If anyone was to ask her what flavor ice cream she would be, it was definitely mint chocolate chip. Something about the calm color, and the cool taste just made it everything to her.
She watched as the barista put 3 rather large scoops of ice cream into a white cup with the shops name on it. She quickly paid the barista before grabbing a small colorful spoon out of a cup that was placed on the counter along with several napkins. She smiled as she turned around, she was going to sit all alone by herself, just as she liked to. However, as she turned around she slowly realized that no tables were empty. At least one person occupied a seat at each table.
As she looked around she noticed some were students, some were older, and some were adults with their children. Unsure of where to go she saw two people. She only recognized one of them however. Red hair and blue eyes. That was all Aravis really knew about the girl other than the fact she was in Gryffindor, her name was Rhea Bishop, and that she was a prefect.
Unsure of what other options she had for seating arrangments the white haired girl slowly made her way to where Rhea and Amanda were sitting. "I hate to interrupt, but is anyone sitting here?" She asked gesturing to one of the empty seats.
I will take what is mine with fire and blood.

Amanda laughed a little when Rhea said that she couldn’t believe that they all shared a flat. Amanda herself couldn’t quite believe it still. “I don’t necessarily want to go anywhere. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn’t keeping you from anything that you needed to do.” Wow, her family has house elves? Impressive. The Sparrow family had never been rich enough to have house elves, but Amanda’s grandparents were rather wealthy and had several house elves in their employ. For some reason, Amanda’s father never accepted any money from his parents. Amanda had always wondered what her grandparents had done to merit that response, but she had decided that it was none of her business and stayed out of it.
Amanda looked up when a white-haired girl asked if she could sit at their table. “Nope, that seat’s open. You’re welcome to site here if you’d like.” Amanda smiled at the other girl. “I’m Amanda, by the way. What’s your name? I think I’ve seen you around school before.” Then again, Amanda had seen lots of people around school, so she didn’t remember particular names. It’s something that starts with an “A,” I know that. Ariana? Arwen?

Aravis smiled happy that she had a place to sit and enjoy her mint chocolate chip ice cream. She set her cup and napkins on the table before moving her chair out. She sat down rather quickly eager to get to her ice cream. Aravis took a bite of the light green ice cream while listening to Amanda speak. "I'm Aravis Escanora. I mostly stay in the library or the corridors, so you most likely have seen me, white hair stands out a bit." She smiled before taking another bite of her ice cream. She didn't understand what it was that she loved so much about the cold sweet. It often gave her brain freezes, which were painful, and it was also bad for your health if you had too much. So why did she love it more than anything? She shrugged it off figuring she would research it later.
"I actually don't recall seeing you before, most of the time I don't observe anyone around me so that could be why. What's your name again?" She asked with a slight hint of a Russian accent. Aravis looked down at her cup realizing she had eaten almost all of her ice cream already. Her eyes widened slightly in shock. "How big of a bite am I taking?" She wondered to herself, making a mental note to slow down and take time to savor the minty treat. She looked back up towards Amanda with a smile still on her face.

nodded in understanding and smiled. "Nope, nothing important I need to do here!" she took a bite of her ice cream and relished in the sweet taste. Amanda seemed to lead such a down to earth life, and Rhea wondered how that life treated her. Was it hard? For Rhea, it seemed unimaginable to ever not live with house elves, able to do any bidding. But she didn't think that the Ravenclaw in front of her even owned any house elves. It seemed like a difficult life, one that Rhea would hate to live... but then again, look at how happy Amanda looked. Like she didn't have a trouble in the world. Now that she thought about it, maybe Amanda's life in a single flat wasn't that bad!
Another girl came up to the group, asking if she could sit here. Rhea nodded happily, grateful for the company, and Amanda welcomed the girl. She had white hair, but Rhea couldn't seem to recognize her. And it was quite hard to miss white hair around Hogwarts! Thankfully, Amanda asked the newcomer's name so Rhea didn't have to - the redhead thought it embarrassing that she didn't know the white haired girl's name.
The girl introduced herself as Aravis Escanora. A name that Rhea thought was familiar, but she couldn't exactly pinpoint why. Oh, well. It was not like it truly mattered, right? They were here to have a good time - and in Rhea's case, that good time was devouring her ice cream. She looked down and realized that she had finished it, so with much deliberation she decided to get some more. What? There were no adults around to tell her not to, and she was going to take advantage of that!
Before she stood up, Rhea looked at Aravis and smiled. "I'm Rhea, if you didn't know. Rhea Bishop. It's a pleasure to meet you!" then she walked over to the counter and contemplated what to get. Once her turn came, she decided on strawberry and vanilla, one scoop of each. She returned back to the table and began on her second serving of ice cream. "So, how did your summer go, Aravis?"
