Lev just wanted to go home… but of course he couldn’t. “This will be good for you!” “You’ll have so much fun!” “You’ll meet plenty of new people just like you!” Like you… Lev didn't want to be different. For him, life would have been perfect if he was just a normal human who lived a normal life and went to a normal school. But even that was too much to ask. It seemed like faith loved to mess with him and had made him a wizard. A wizard! Even though both of his parents were both normal, he wasn’t. What a joke.

So here he was now, right at the entrance of the London Quidditch Stadium. On July 15. Right in the middle of summer. When the wizard had explained everything to them, Lev thought that he would at least have the time to prepare himself but no, then the man had mentioned a summer camp and Lev was forced to go. All because his parents wanted him to be like before. Lev knew that was why. They wanted their old son back and they thought forcing him to interact with people would do that, but they were completely wrong. Lev knew he was an anxious mess and he would only embarrass himself.

The boy looked up in awe at the huge stadium in front of him. This place was like a football stadium but.. 100 times bigger and higher. It almost looked like a tower from over here. Lev could feel a lump form in his throat. Big meant that he would easily get lost here. He had no clue where to go! Lev stood at the entrance looking around for any signs but there were too many people, too much noise! After a while, he simply gave up and leaned against a wall, keeping his head low to make his hair cover his face and somehow shield him from the rest of the world.

xxxxx After he had gone to his tent, Tristan made his way outside and into the snow-filled landscape of the strange winter that had been artificially created here in the midst of London. There was a beauty to winter even more so to a winter that could only be conjured through magic. He wandered his way around when he saw a young boy standing at the entrance, standing in hiding, as if the world was hurting him. Tristan wondered if the poor young boy was in need of some guidance, so he stepped towards him and said, “Hey? Do you need some help? Are you new here?

xxxxxHis tone was soft and gentle, filled with care for the other, and he smiled gently to show this to the young boy in front of him. He gently continued, but direct in nature, “Would you like to come inside with me to find your tent and explore? Why don’t we go in together? My name is Tristan Theramin but you can call me Tris.

xxxxxHe stepped forward in the direction of the entrance and cocked his head towards the rest of the crowd as if beckoning the young boy forward into the rest of summer camp. The young boy was quite young, perhaps even an incoming first year so he hoped to guide the boy into the Wizarding World well as possible.

Lev was just minding his business, thinking of how to find the closest bathroom, when he suddenly heard a voice right next to him. The boy immediately flinched and almost seemed to cower like a scared animal when he looked up to see another boy. No not a boy, a man.

This guy was obviously much older than him. Lev always got nervous when teenagers talked to him. He was also awkward with people his own age, but for some reason he felt like older kids always judged him more. And they were so tall and terrifying! Even though Lev was tall for his age, the other guy towered over him.

Lev slouched, almost like he was trying to make himself smaller. “Tris..” He tested the name on his lips. He looked away from Tristan, instead focused on the scab he kept picking on on his wrist. “I’m Lev. Lev Makarov. I-I don’t really have a nickname so you can call me whatever you want..”

Lev finally looked up at the older boy. “Yes. That would help a lot.” Lev’s voice was very gentle and quiet, almost like he didn’t want to attract anyone’s attention. The boy was still terrified of Tristan, but he knew if he didn’t have help he’d get very lost. That would be even more terrifying.

The young boy flinched at his approach, making Tristan worried for the other. Tristan smiled, hoping to show the young boy that he was pretty harmless compared to the other, that there truly was nothing to be worried about. When Lev slouched, Tristan knew that the other truly was terrified, so he knelt down onto his knees so that he didn't tower over the poor soul, facing him face to face rather than a few feet higher than him. When the other tried out his nickname hesitantly, Tristan smiled to encourage the boy and replied, "What is your name?" in as gentle a tone as he could. There was a motherly tone in the way that he spoke, an instinct that reared up within him to take care of those who were younger than him and to be loving towards them. When the other replied that the help would be beneficial, Tristan smiled and offered his hand towards the other, to take him inside and to lead him through the busy camp atmosphere. He was curious as to what the young boy wished for his experience here, so he questioned warmly, “If you could do anything this summer, what do you want to do? Maybe we have that opportunity!

Lev seemed surprised when Tristan kneeled down in front of him. The boy looked around at all the people glancing their way. Lev’s respect and trust of Tris immediately grew with that gesture. He himself would have never kneeled down in public for fear of people’s judgment and yet this guy was doing it like it was nothing! Just to make Lev feel more comfortable.

Lev hesitantly took the teenager’s hand, his anxieties immediately soothed by the other’s gentle tone. He squeezed Tristan’s hand, a nervous smile playing on his lips. This guy just had a vibe that immediately put Lev at ease. He almost reminded him of one of his older brothers. The only one who still talked to him like he was a normal person and not some sort of special case everyone had to be careful around.“U-Um… What I want to do this summer? I guess I want to sleep in?” Lev blushed, once again looking down at the ground. What a stupid answer.. Surely Tristan would think it was dumb too. He continued thinking, hoping he would find something better, but the truth was Lev didn’t want to be here. This whole new wizarding world was terrifying to him and now he had to meet new people too? At least he had Tristan to help him now.

The young boy looked surprised when Tristan knelt down but Tristan hoped that it was just due to the quickness of his action, not an indication that no one had done this for the younger boy in a long time. Tristan nodded and warmly smiled when the young boy took his hand. He gently stood up and led the boy into the snow of the magical winter the school had created for this summer camp. He questioned playfully, “What do you think about this magical winter in the summer? It’s a bit different isn’t it? Are your parents magical or nonmagical, or as this world calls it, are your parents Muggles or wixen?” Tristan guided him through the crowd of people and decided on whether or not to him to the great feast that they were to hold later, with the hot chocolate and allow the young boy to meet some new friends his own age. “Sleep in? That sounds great! You could do that if you want. Or you could hang out with me sometime, only if you want to?” Tristan jovially smiled at the idea of sleeping in but inside he knew it suggested that the young boy didn’t know what was happening here at camp and wasn’t excited for it at all. “There’s also a lot of activities too if you want to join, like a water race and exchanging gifts, or if you’re like me, you could read books in your tent all day if you want?

Lev let Tristan drag him along and bumped straight into him when he saw all of the snow falling from the sky. How beautiful.. Lev extended a hand and let a couple of snowflakes fall onto his hand and watched as they melted. Snow in summer.. The temperature was comfortable and yet the whole stadium was covered in a beautiful glittery blanket. How magical!

The boy seemed to almost be in a trance. He’d almost forgotten about Tristan and only looked back at him, when the young man asked his question.

“Snow in summer? I love it..” His smile seemed a little more genuine now. “I really wished my parents and siblings could see this but they’re all normal.. or muggles, like you say.”

Lev still hadn’t let go of Tristan’s hand, swinging it around instead. He seemed a little surprised when the other proposed to hang out together. “Really? W-Wouldn’t I be bothering you? I mean you must have friends your own age and wouldn’t it be annoying to have a kid there.”

But Lev had a feeling Tristan wouldn’t let him stay in his bed the whole camp. He could see the classical look of worry everyone looked at him with. “No no.. It’s fine. I don’t really want to join in the activities.” Lev was scared. He missed his family and his room and all the things he knew. Everything here was new and he felt so out of his element. He hated it so much. He could feel the anxiety bubbling up in his chest.

“I just want to go home..” He suddenly mumbled.

Tristan smiled when the younger boy allowed him to lead him through to the crowd and to the rest of the snow-blanketed quidditch stadium. It truly was a beautiful world and power that the weather could be changed in a generally easy way, a spell one learns during student years. It truly was magical, the pun intended. When the young boy confessed that he wished his loved ones could see this beautiful sight, Tristan could not help but dwell on Edward. He wished terribly that Edward could have seen this, oh so illogical sight, but in reality he never would. His face saddened at the sorrow that plagued him in that moment, but he shook his thoughts away from the morose path his thoughts took. “I had a friend too who was non-magical, I really wished he could have known about this world, this oh, so beautiful world, that I live in everyday, where sun can turn into snow, and flowers could be conjured from nothing.” At that, Tristan cast the spell that conjures flowers and offered the purple iris that was conjured to the young boy. “There’s such beauty in both worlds and I wish to share both with the other.” Tristan shook his head vigorously at the young boy’s question and answered, “No! It really won’t be a worry, like I said I would love a buddy to sit around and do nothing with. I have to confess, I don’t have that many friends my own age because I like doing my own thing and hanging out with muggle friends when I go back to Muggle London over the summer.” He widened his eyes comically as he made fun of himself. He smiled at the young boy and tried to make sure that the other boy didn’t think he was pitying the other, just empathising with him. “Yeah, I totally understand wanting to go home, and it’s okay if you want to go home! But, I would love to help you get introduced to this world, so that you can tell your parents about it. You can tell your parents all about this when you get home! Did you know there are others here whose parents are nonmagical too? I grew up in the Muggle World too!

Lev looked down at the beautiful flower. He squinted at it, almost like he was expecting it to disapear. But it didn't. How was this even possible? Lev felt like everything he had known about the world up until now was only a tiny part of it. A tiny part that most people would never get the opportunity to venture beyond. In that sense, Lev knew he was lucky.

"It's unfair. I don't understand why.. muggles and wizards can't live together in harmony." The boy frowned. "It would all be so much simpler.." Deep down, Lev knew that the wizarding community must have a good reason for not sharing their world with normal humans. He just wished it didn't have to be like that.

The boy was feeling pretty gloomy but Tristan's words somehow lifted his spirits. He knew about both the muggle world and the wizarding world and he seemed like such a kind and caring person. And someone like that wanted Lev to hang out with him. A part of himself knew that it was mostly pity, but he pushed the thought away and attempted to smile at Tris again. Lev didn't want him to think he was a killjoy. "I guess you're right.. It's a little nerve wracking coming into this new world, but if you help me out.. I'm sure I'll be ok."

Lev was really glad Tristan had found him. Otherwise he really didn't know what he would have done. Thanks to him, he felt a little more confident.

Tristan was pleased at the curiosity and almost unbelieving feeling that seemed to be engendered in the young boy. He felt a bit of whimsy and while the young boy was holding the flower, he took out his wand and cast the spell that changed colours, saying the incantation out loud, "Colorvaria." He smiled and nodded to encourage the other boy. When the other boy confessed his deepest feeling that it is unfair why wizards and muggles could not live together, Tristan was overcome because even though the young boy didn't know it, this was what he was fighting for. Many professors and other students knew that he had been advocating for this unification for years. "I've been fighting for that unity. It is so interesting how you say that because I have been advocating for the world that would be created through the combination of Muggle science and magical power, the ability to save people with magic that could not have been saved before. I understand completely! Sadly, I also understand why there is a law that explains that we can't share with the Muggles our power. It's because, a long time ago, the Muggles used to persecute us for our powers, kill us, imprison us, or hurt us, so the government created the law. But for now, while that law exists, I want to start by teaching Muggleborns about wizarding customs and wizards about Muggles, help each society understand each other, so that one day, we can unite peacefully."
