History/Background Story: Grayson was born on January 21st in Belfast, Ireland, born to two English professors (Conall and Sinead Ward) who both worked at Queen's University Belfast. Conall was relatively new to the profession, beginning his first year as a professor when Sinead was on her tenth. Conall (26) was the youthful, optimistic, and flirty philosophy professor while Sinead (41) was the downtrodden, experienced, and reserved math professor. On their first meeting, the two immediately found disdain for each other based on their opposing worldviews and fifteen year age gap. Over the course of Conall's first year, the bitter tension between the two only heightened to the point that the two could not be in the same room with each other without engaging in a screaming match. Still, at one staff party, the two individuals found themselves inebriated and carefree. They participated in a conversation, one thing led to another, and Grayson was conceived that night. Considering that both individuals came from traditional Catholic families, they decided to keep Grayson and marry each other despite their extreme loathing for one another. Thus, their romantic partnership was not born off of true love. Instead, it was a one night stand between two professors who loathed each other.
Because of this strained relationship, Grayson was brought up in a home with two very distant parents. Neither cared for the child very much as, when they looked into Grayson's eyes, they only saw a reminder of their hate for their partner. For those first five years of his life, Grayson found solace in nothing; he was, indeed, a miserable child. His father spent long nights at a bar, drinking alone every night while his mother spent every night at the university, sometimes living there for multiple days at a time.
Still, Grayson saw a dramatic shift in his home life just days after he had turned five years old. Conall ended up having an affair with one of his 18-year-old students. The incident cost Conall everything. The university could not have a professor that fraternized with students. His wife, Grayson's mother, finally had a legitimate reason to leave both Conall and Grayson, so she did. As for his reputation, nobody in Belfast could speak a single positive word about Conall anymore, so he relocated to his hometown of Liverpool, England to work wherever he could. He split his time between janitorial work and horrid fast food work. Despite everything going wrong for him, Conall made a promise to himself upon his move to Liverpool: he would treat Grayson better than he had before, and, more importantly, he would make sure that Grayson lived a good life.
With this promise in mind, he enrolled Conall in the top schools in Liverpool, kept him in amazing extracurricular activities such as math clubs and art classes. In everything he did, Grayson was a prodigy. Intellectually, he was exceptionally gifted, capable of completing academic problems years ahead of his time. To maintain Grayson's capabilities as a student, Conall would consistently yell at his son if he ever slipped up once; although, in Conall's mind, he never yelled at Grayson out of hate. For the next six years, Grayson lived in a bipolar household that darted between extreme love and immense anger from his father. Grayson still gravitated towards the negative, thinking down on the father that loved him while becoming a reclusive young child, unable to interact with others. Grayson ignored the world around him as he focused entirely on books once he became a fluid reader. He hated to go outdoors, loathed social interaction, and could not bring himself to do any activities that did not better himself intellectually. It was a harsh reality, partially self-imposed on Grayson's part. Ironically, Grayson created both his fun-free prison and his pranking escape route.
Then, something peculiar started to happen. Grayson found himself capable of a lot more. In the middle of class one day, he imagined a prank where a giant bowl of oatmeal would drop onto his teacher's head. While a giant bowl was physically impossible, he did find himself capable of getting a small bucket that he had rigged to dump on the teachers head when she walked into the room. As he waited for his prey to enter the classroom, he daydreamed about the glory of a giant bowl of oatmeal dropping down. A moment before his teacher entered the room, the bucket grew ten times its original size and fell upon his teacher's head with the room flooding with oatmeal. These daydreams became reality, giving Grayson more clever ideas. Suddenly, he could imagine his quill writing for him hands-free, and it would happen. Wanting to impress his father, he showed his newfound skills to his dad. His father found himself profoundly amazed with his son as he saw his child to be something grand. Grayson had never felt such love before, and, in this singular moment, he finally started to understand why his father had mistreated him for these past six years. Days after he showcased his newfound "skills" to his father, Grayson's letter from Hogwarts arrived.
Grayson mostly cherishes his memory of his father leaving him at the train station. They laughed, they cried, and they hugged. It was an all so amazing Hallmark ending to a mixed childhood. Not only was he a wizard, but Grayson had finally found his father's love. Since arriving at Hogwarts, Grayson has been sorted into Ravenclaw.
