Tori was looking at herself in the mirror. She wasn't sure about her hair or what her outfit would look like. For the first time, she went to St. Mungo, where her mother worked. She was going to Mungo Hospital. Normally, her mother thought that she would not allow this, but she thought that she would not accept it, but she allowed it. She thought this would be good and went down the stairs.

Tori's mother, Vera, was standing downstairs by the fireplace. When she saw her daughter, she smiled and started talking.

"Are you ready, honey? This time we will use floo powder again. It would be safer that way."

They used Floo powder like twice. They used one to go shopping in Diagon Alley and the other to go to the Hogwarts Train. Tori felt sick to her stomach as she remembered this moment.

They went to St Mungo's because of the fireplace. As Tori looked around, she saw healers like her mother walking around. Vera spoke to a healer. After a while, she turned to his daughter and started talking.

"Honey, there is actually a reason for you to be here. There is a girl your age. She is also studying at Hogwarts. But she came to April because she was ill, and she has been here for a while now. I think if you give her some company, it will improve her mood. Is this ok for you?"

"Of course mom."

They went up the stairs and came to a door. Vera opened the door and Tori's mother spoke as she walked through the door.

“Hello Rowan. How are you feeling today? Did you eat anything today?"

Tori looked at the girl.

An Interesting Start: 7/4/2024 with @Victoria Lena Jones

It was early December of 2023 when it all began. Rowan awoke one chilly morning to find a few painful, blistering sores- strangely purple in colour- across the backs of her hands. They scared her, as she didn't know where they had come from, and Rowan pulled gloves over her hands before getting dressed. She considered going to the hospital wing, but she had Herbology that morning, and she wouldn't miss the class for anything. As she made her way up from the dungeons and onto the grounds, towards the greenhouses, she felt more and more twinges of pain all across her body, and when she would reach down to feel where they had come from, painful bumps would greet her. Also purple in colour, as she would find when she lifted her pant leg to study a particular cluster on her ankle. Rowan would break out in hives sometimes back home, especially during the Spring, but this was different. Those hives were never this painful as they were itchy, and they certainly were not purple.

The postules now covered her hands, feet, and were beginning to creep around her face. Rowan was in so much pain that she felt tears stinging her eyes. Professor Toussaint, concerned with the growing infection, sent Rowan to the Hospital Wing midway through class, and when she arrived, Nurse Sabo deemed her symptoms as Spattergroit and said that she'd be sending Rowan home to her family. Rowan, despite her pain, was heavily disappointed. It was only her first year at Hogwarts, and she didn't want to leave the fascinating, knowledge-filled castle. She still had so much to learn. But nonetheless, a couple of days later Rowan found herself back at her home with her muggle parents, her mother weeping with stress. Being a muggle, Rowan's mother had no clue what to do about the growing fungus, and Rowan, now in so much discomfort and pain that she was unable to hold back the tears, could barely move.

When Rowan had first discovered she was a witch, she and her parents had also recieved much-needed basic information about the wizarding world (such as where to find Diagon Alley, how to get to the train station, ecetera). One of these pieces of information was directions to London's wizarding hospital, St. Mungo's, in case of dire circumstances. Such was their only choice, as Rowan's parents had not even the slightest clue about how to help her. Her particular case of Spattergroit was a severe one, and she was admitted to St. Mungo's due to both her muggle parents' inability to care for such a wizarding illness at home and the contagiousness of the infection itself.

A witch called Vera Jones became Rowan's healer, and Rowan was confined to the hospital for about two months before she was sent home with her parents (and detailed instructions on how to help combat the fungus). Rowan was bedridden for many more weeks, and her mother brought her back to St. Mungo's when Rowan lost her ability to speak due to the infection reaching her uvula in early March. After another two weeks at the hospital, Rowan was sent home with her mother once again, and was only well enough to begin to move around again on the first days of April. One rainy evening, Rowan begged her mother to let her return to Hogwarts, and her mother reluctantly agreed, under the circumstances that if the infection began to flare up again, Rowan would go to the hospital wing immediately.

Now, it was early summer, with the school year having ended in June (Rowan didn't graduate, and despite her dismay, she hadn't expected to; she had been gone for so long). After school ended, in early July, the postules returned. They weren't nearly as bad as they were before, but Rowan was in enough pain that her parents brought her to St. Mungo's once again , where she was told by Dr. Jones that she's have to stay for at least another three days. "But what about camp?" Rowan had asked, frustrated. She didn't know how much more of this in-and-out of the hospital she could take. Camp was what she was looking forward to the most; a chance to escape, and gain back some of the lost time with her wizarding peers. "I can't miss it, I can't."

"I know, sweetheart, but unfortunately, getting this figured out is more important right now." Rowan's mother, who was still trying to grasp the existance of the wizarding world, nonetheless that her daughter had a horrid infection contracted from such world, had been by Rowan's side since the beginning despite the chaos of it all.

Rowan was admitted again yesterday. She was quite salty towards everyone, being snappish and short-tempered at every chance she had. The door to her room, which she had spent so much time in already, opened, and Dr. Jones walked in, followed by a girl of Rowan's age who Rowan didn't recognize. "I'm alright," Rowan replied dully. Right now, she wasn't in too much pain, though she was feeling a bit lightheaded from all the crying she had done last night. "I ate some this morning," she replied. Rowan looked past the healer towards the girl who had trailed after her, wondering who she was. She didn't see others her age around here a lot, so this particular young witch intrigued her.

"That's good to hear. I know how hard it is . This is my daughter Victoria. I'm sure you'll get along well with her. I need to check on other patients too. I will come soon"

Tori was left alone with Rowan when her mother walked out the door. It was the first time she thought about how she should speak.

It wasn't the best way to start a topic or a good way to talk, but she didn't know how to talk or how to react. She comes to Rowan's bedside

She realized she said it out loud. That was a really bad way of speaking and it was sinking in a little more. Her bag comes to her mind and she takes it and opens it. There were still a few of the bracelets she made at school inside. It was made of beads and tied with strings. She opened the box and showed it to Rowan.

Rowan gestured with embarassment to the few bandages on her face, which from underneath a hint of violet was visible from the postules they covered. "Spattergroit. It's not as contagious anymore, because I'm getting better and because of the medicine, so don't worry." The young witch adjusted herself in her bed so that she was sitting criss-crossed on top of the sheets, as she felt self-concious next to another girl her age. She suddenly realized that due to being deprived of social interaction for so long, Rowan was awkward and at a loss for words when it came to small talk with her peers; which is why she was confused when Victoria said that she didn't know how to speak. In Rowan's mind, if anything it was herself who should be apologizing. Rowan subconciously scratched at the itchy bumps on her hands, making them burn. Her attention was turned to the box of bracelets that Victoria had opened towards Rowan. There were numerous pieces of string with beads carefully braided onto them and tied into loops. They were quite pretty, and Rowan nodded, flustered, and pulled one out of the box. It was an aqua colour with gold and green beads. "Thank you," she said, admiring it. "It's very nice. And no need to apologize, you didn't sound rude." Rowan pulled the bracelet onto her wrist and tightened the drawstrings using her free hand and her teeth, which she supposed looked strange to Victoria, so she did so as quickly as possible. "Me too," Rowan replied. "It's okay."
Rowan assumed that Victoria had gone (or was going, she couldn't tell the girl's age for sure) to Hogwarts. She didn't recognize the other girl, though, so she musn't have been in Slytherin. Even though she was only at school for half of the year, she was sure she had remembered all of the other first year Slytherins. "Do you go to Hogwarts?"

Tori looked at her bandages curiously, violet spots visible in some areas. She didn't know much about witch diseases. "It's just like measles. Does it hurt? Or is there any itching?" She had once again spoken her mind.

"Actually, when I was at school, I made them to match my friends' interests or favorite colors. So, what are your hobbies? What do you like to do?"

She watched as the girl tied the bracelet. "If you had asked me, I could have helped you tie it. It really suits you."

When Rowan speaks, it occurs to her that he has not yet told her she has gone to Hogwarts and which house she is in.

"Yes, I go to Hogwarts. I'm in Ravenclaw house. Mum said you were at Hogwarts for a while too. That must be hard. I mean, when you get used to something and suddenly have to part with it."

In fact, when she thought about it, Tori thought that she was almost the same as herself. "We actually look a little similar. It might seem a little weird. In fact, I'll show you something."

She closed her eyes and winced. When she opened his eyes, her hair was a bright yellow.

Rowan nodded. "Both," the young witch replied solemnly. "Though, I'd say it's more of a burning sensation. I don't feel anything at the moment, though, thankfully," she added.
"Well, I like to brew potions, and take care of plants," Rowan said with a smile, grateful that Victoria seemed to show interest in her. It had been so long since she'd had somebody her age to speak to, and Rowan felt rusty on her social skills. She'd figure it out. "Also playing the piano, climbing trees, and writing," she added, thinking back to the few months she had spent at Hogwarts. The young vipress studied Victoria and asked, "What about you?"
Victoria mentioned that she had gone to Hogwarts, which would mean that she'll be a second year in the upcoming term. Rowan's attention was once again drawn to a thought that she had been desperately and constantly trying to repress; which was the embarassment of being a first year again whilst being older than everyone in that year. However, Rowan was pulled out of her thoughts when Victoria's hair suddenly changed colors. Rowan gasped, and laughed a little bit. "Woah!" She said. "You're a Metamorphmagus, then?" Rowan had read about such people. "That's really cool," Rowan continued, resisting the urge to reach out and touch Tori's new sunshine-colored locks.
