The train was moving fast, the landscape passing quickly by the windows. Rocked by the movements of the train, Elena was leaning against the window, watching the landscape fading in front of her eyes. She couldn't wait
A few days after meeting Danielle and Rose, she had received a letter from Rose inviting her to a shopping day in London. Elena had practically begged her parents to allow her to go, arguing that she knew London very well, and that everything would be fine. After making her promise to call them every two hours, they agreed. Elena was excited, jumping around the house. She immediatly rushed to answer Rose, and eagerly awaited the big day.
Inside the train, as she was traveling towards one of her favourite city in the whole world, Elena couldn't suppress a smile thinking about the day ahead. Shopping, dinner, and a musical. Her favourite things in the world. She giggled, playing with her rings. She glanced at the book laying in front of her, the book she wanted to read during the ride, but her thoughts kept wandering. With a sigh, she put it away and resumed her daydreaming.
She woke up, startled, when the anouncements called for London passengers, inviting them to leave the train. She got up, gathered her belongings, and rushed toward the exit. Arrived on the platform, she got overwhelmed by the crowds and the loud chatter, and she got away to a less crowed place. Leaning against the wall, she started looking for her friend, her fingers instinctively wrapping around her necklace.
Where is she ?
Elena sighed, trying to calm herself. She was early. Rose would arrive in ten minutes. Everything was fine. She looked at the time, smiling. This day was going to be great.

Rose had been anxiously awaiting a return letter from Elena. The two of them had met at Flourish and Blotts just a few days ago and, without thinking too much about it, she decided to reach out to her by letter. Rose had been planning a day trip to London so she thought: Why not have some company? When Elena responded eagerly, Rose was filled with joy, but that quickly changed to nerves as she began to plan the trip.
As the day approached, Rose meticulously planned her outfit and packed her bag with everything she might need. She ran through her itinerary in her mind countless times, imagining each step of their day together. Rose had the habit of planning her trips down to the hour, that way she could be prepared for almost everything.
On the morning of her journey, Rose was practically bouncing off the walls, checking her watch every few minutes despite knowing the train schedule by heart. Her nerves manifested in the familiar habit of twisting a silver ring on her finger, a gift from her older brother. The minutes ticked by slowly as she waited for her parents to drive her to the station. When they finally left, Rose clutched her ticket tightly, her heart racing with anticipation.
On the train, Rose found a window seat and watched as the scenery sped past. Fields gave way to towns, and towns to the outskirts of London. She couldn't help but fidget with her ring every time the train slowed or sped up. The announcement of their arrival in London came too soon and yet not soon enough, and Rose hurriedly gathered her things, stepping onto the platform with a mix of relief and anxiety.
The station was bustling with travelers, and Rose scanned the crowd, searching for Elena. Her heart sank slightly when she didn't see her friend immediately. The platform was busy, and as minutes passed, Rose's anxiety bubbled up but then relief flooded in when she saw a blonde girl in the distance. The girl was nervously fidgeting with her necklace. A smile spread across Rose's face as she realized that the girl was most definitely Elena.
"Hey!" Rose called out, waving eagerly as she hurried over. "Sorry, I'm a bit late. The train was delayed. You ready to go?"

Elena was lost in her thoughts when she thought she heard her name. She looked up, spotting a familiar brunette head running towards her. A genuine smile of relief spread across her face as she recognized her friend, Rose.
"Hey!" Rose called out, waving eagerly as she hurried over. "Hey Rose!" Elena greeted her, happy to see her. Her friend began to apologize for being late, but Elena shook her head. "Don't worry, I was just early." She nodded when Rose asked if she was ready.
The two girls chatted as they made their way to the tube, excited by the day ahead.
When the tube finally arrived at Piccadilly, Elena's eyes widened. The place was even better than her memories, the colorful billboards advertising the latest trends, surrounded by tourists snapping picture of every little thing. People rushed around them, their voice adding to ambient sounds.
She turned to Rose. "It's amazing." The two girls had made small talk throughout the journey. Elena was not very skilled at it, never quite knowing what to say, but everything felt easier with Rose. She grabbed her bag, and got off the tube with her friend.

When Rose and Elena emerged from the Underground station, they were met with the bustling energy of Piccadilly Circus. Rose could see iconic neon signs and large digital screens illuminating the area, along with crowds of people from all walks of life. The sound of chatter, footsteps, and occasional street performers filled the air, creating a lively and dynamic atmosphere. She felt a slight rush as they exited the station.
"It's amazing" Elena said, her voice filled with awe. Rose nodded, so entranced with the city she couldn't come up with words.
As they began to walk towards their first store, Rose pointed towards the Eros statue and said, "Look, at that! I've seen pictures, but it's so much more impressive in person!"
They continued to explore, their laughter mingling with the sounds of the city. They passed street performers and window-shopped, marveling at the variety of stores. Despite the crowd, Rose felt a sense of relaxation with Elena that made the busy streets feel less overwhelming.
As they approached Waterstones, the large bookstore loomed invitingly, promising a peaceful retreat from the busy streets. Rose couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement. Bookstores were her sanctuary, and she was eager to go in.
Before they entered, an idea sparked in Rose's mind. She turned to Elena with a grin. "How about we each pick out a book for the other? Something we think the other would love. What do you think?" Rose's mind was already racing through all the book options she could choose.

Piccadilly Circus was bustling with activity, even early in the morning. The iconic neon signs flashed brightly, and the sounds of traffic and chatter filled the air. Tourists snapped photos of the Eros statue while street performers entertained passersby.
"Look at that! I've seen pictures, but it's so much more impressive in person!" said Rose, interrupting Elena's thoughts. She turned to the statue, admiring it for a moment before looking back at Rose. "Did you know that it's actually a statue of Eros' brother, Anteros? Anteros is the god of requited love, but also the punisher of those who scorn love and the feelings of others. He's the son of Ares and Aphrodite, and—" She stopped herself, realizing she had launched into one of her endless tirades. She blushed. "Sorry, I talk a lot."
Why do I have to spew tons of information as soon as I know something about a topic?
She fretted internally, hoping she hadn't bored her new friend. The two girls continued their exploration, chatting and laughing. The weather was pleasant, with clouds scattered across the sky.
They stopped in front of Waterstones, an enormous bookstore with multiple floors and rows upon rows of books. Elena held back a gasp of amazement, excitement bubbling up inside her. She was about to enter when Rose turned to her. "How about we each pick out a book for the other? Something we think the other would love. What do you think?" Elena's smile widened, and she nodded vigorously. "That's a great idea! I'm in."
The two girls separated, each with their mission in mind. Elena wandered through the aisles, marveling at the sight of books. Bookstores brought her a sense of inner peace that nothing else had matched so far.
She hesitated over the choice, wanting to find the perfect gift. At the intersection of two rows, her eyes were drawn to a familiar book. A young girl with brown hair, draped in a red dress, surrounded by roses and thorns.
Hello, you.
Elena had a sad smile, her heart aching as her fingers brushed the cover. It was her favorite book, the first that had made her fall in love with characters on the pages. *Heartless* by Marissa Meyer. The story of the Queen of Hearts before she was crowned. Elena clutched it to her chest, turning back. She had found her gift.

Rose entered Waterstones, her eyes wide with excitement. The multi-floored bookstore felt like a treasure trove waiting to be explored. Every corner held the promise of new stories and adventures, and Rose relished the thought of finding the perfect book for Elena. The familiar, comforting scent of paper and ink enveloped her, making her feel right at home.
Rose wandered the aisles, her fingers lightly brushing the spines of the books. She loved everything about bookstores - the quiet rustle of pages, the soft murmur of conversations, and the sense of possibility that each book represented. As she perused the shelves, she remembered how Elena had mentioned her love of Sherlock Holmes.
Rose explored the mystery section first, looking for something reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes but couldn't find anything that stood out to her. She eventually made it into the mythology section, where stories of gods and legends filled the shelves. Just a few minutes earlier, Elena was discussing the story of Anteros. It seemed as if she had a passion for this topic. It was in this section that Rose's eyes caught sight of a book that seemed to blend many interests.
It was a novel titled *Pandora* by Susan Stokes-Chapman. The cover depicted an ancient Greek vase with intricate designs, hinting at mysteries and legends within. The plot promised a thrilling blend of historical mystery and Greek mythology, with a touch of adventure that Rose felt sure would captivate Elena.
With the book clutched to her chest, Rose made her way back to the designated meeting spot. She felt a mix of excitement and nervousness, hoping Elena would love the book as much as she thought she might. As she approached, she saw Elena already waiting, holding her chosen book close.
"Find something good?" Rose asked, trying to keep the anxiety out of her voice.

Elena wandered through the aisles, mentally noting what she had read, loved, and what she still needed to buy. She picked up two books she had wanted to read for a long time: As Good as Dead and Rule of Wolves, the final books of two series she adored.
She then returned to Rose, smiling. "Find something good?" Rose asked. Elena tilted her head slightly, showing her the books she had chosen. She kept her gift in her left hand, hiding the cover. She looked at Rose, her voice filled with excitement. "Shall we show them on three? One, two..."
At three, both girls revealed their books and exchanged them. Elena received her book, looking at the cover. Pandora by Susan Stokes-Chapman had an intricate, captivating design. She ran her fingers over the embossed patterns, delighted. Books with beautiful covers were always a special treat. She turned the book over and read the summary. A small smile played on her lips. This book combined two of her interests: mysteries and Greek mythology. Rose had understood her well. She thanked her friend. "It looks amazing. It reminds me of *The Song of Achilles* or *Circe*. I love books about Greek mythology."
I hope she likes her book. Elena instinctively reached for her necklace, then let it go. She couldn't let her anxiety ruin her day.
After paying, the two girls left the bookstore, ready for the next adventure of their day.

Rose's smile widened with genuine happiness as she saw Elena's delight over the book she had chosen. The way Elena's eyes lit up and her fingers traced the embossed patterns of the cover made Rose's heart swell with pride and relief. It felt incredible to know she had picked something that resonated so well with her friend.
Elena then handed Rose the book she had chosen for her. It was *Heartless* by Marissa Meyer. Rose's eyes sparkled as she took the book from Elena. She had heard about *Heartless* and even had it on her list of books to buy. She loved books that delved into the backstories of well-known characters, especially ones who were originally depicted as villains.
"This is perfect!" Rose exclaimed. "I've wanted to read this for so long. Thank you, Elena!"
Elena beamed, visibly relieved and happy that Rose liked her choice. They spent the next few minutes gushing over books they had read while waiting in line to check out. Their shared passion for reading created an even stronger bond between them, making the moment feel all the more special.
As they left Waterstones, Rose glanced around the bustling streets of Piccadilly. "So, what do you think about lunch?" she asked. "We could have a picnic in the park, or maybe find a cute cafe nearby?" Rose had planned for both scenarios ahead of time.

Elena smiled sincerely when Rose said she loved her gift. She nodded, happy to share her favorite things with her new friend.
Once they were outside, Rose turned to Elena. "So, what do you think about lunch?" she asked. "We could have a picnic in the park, or maybe find a cute café nearby?" Elena tilted her head, thinking, then turned to Rose. "How about a picnic? The weather is nice, and we could read a bit before the musical ?"
Elena watched her reaction. She had inherited this habit from her mother, who always joined her when she read. Mother and daughter could then giggle and share all the passages, while reading side by side.
Rose seemed to like the idea, and the two girls headed to a nearby supermarket to buy their lunch. Elena didn't hesitate to pick a ham, butter, and cheese sandwich, and a bottle of fruit juice. She grabbed a bag of candy, hoping Rose liked lollipops as well, and paid.
She waited for her friend outside, admiring the park in the distance. She spotted a shaded spot under a large tree where the two girls could settle. It seemed like the perfect place to relax and read.
When Rose joined her, they both headed toward the park. Elena's heart was light, and for the first time, her thoughts were quiet. She felt at home with Rose.

Rose smiled warmly, her heart lifting at Elena's suggestion. "A picnic sounds wonderful", she agreed. "The weather is perfect, and reading in the park sounds lovely."
The two girls made their way to a nearby supermarket to gather supplies for the picnic. Rose felt a sense of excitement bubbling inside her as she browsed the aisles. She picked out a turkey and avocado sandwich, a bottle of water, and a bag of her favorite gummy bears. Rose waited for Elena to pick out her lunch. When she saw the lollipops in Elena's basket, she grinned. "I love lollipops", she said, feeling even more connected to her new friend.
After they paid for their lunch, they headed towards the park. Rose's eyes sparked as she took in the lush greenery and the cheerful atmosphere of the park. Elena pointed out a shaded spot under a large tree, and they both made their way there, settling down on a soft patch of grass.
Rose spread out a small basket she had brought along, and they arranged their food. As they ate, they chatted about their favorite books and characters, their conversation flowing effortlessly. Rose felt more at ease with Elena than she normally did with new people. Elena's calm and thoughtful demeanor made her feel comfortable, and she found herself talking more than she usually would.
After they finished their sandwiches, Rose pulled out her copy of *Heartless*. "I am so excited to start this, she said. They then both settled into a comfortable silence, each absorbed in their books. The gentle rustling of leaves and the distant sounds of the city created a peaceful backdrop. Rose felt a sense of contentment wash over her. It was rare for her to feel so relaxed and happy, especially with someone she had only recently met.
As the afternoon wore on, they continued reading and chatting, enjoying the simple pleasures of each other's company. Eventually, they started discussing their plans for the rest of the day. "I am in dire need of caffeine. How about we stop at this bakery nearby? Then we can head to the theater!"
With their books tucked away and their picnic packed up, the two girls made their way out of the park. A couple blocks down they saw a coffee shop. Rose opened the door to find a quaint, inviting atmosphere with rustic wooden tables, shelves lined with books and plants, and the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting through the air. Oh, how I love cafés.
