The Scoreboard
This is one of six threads for the Summer Camp 2024 Scavenger Hunt. To view the starting post and the rest of the threads, click here. The Scoreboard
Resembling a giant blackboard that would dwarf even a giant, the Scoreboard is usually covered with chalky point totals and constantly self-writing golden script commercials for local wizarding businesses, but today it is curiously blank - with only the dusty yellow remnants of previously written blurbs visible on its dark surface. If you squint at it, you may see the ghosts of giant letters spelling Gladrags Wizardwear in the lower left-hand corner.
Instead of the point totals that would normally be found during a Quidditch match occurring in the stadium, upon arrival your eyes are drawn to a simple wooden table at the base of the giant blackboard. Three piles sit upon the table - a pile of sticks, a pile of quills, and a pile of candles. Which will you choose, when you make it to the Scoreboard?
------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CLICK THE REDUCIO FOR A REMINDER OF THE SCAVENGER HUNT RULES:Reducio
- Anyone can join the scavenger hunt, but in order to be eligible to win, you must complete all six riddles before the moderation deadline.
- Each player may only join with ONE character (e.g. you may not join with both your Hogwarts character and your iNPC).
- Each riddle has a deadline of 1 week before moderation will occur and the next riddle will be announced. If you miss the deadline, you are welcome to continue posting and following with the Hunt, but that riddle will not count towards your total score even if you get it right (since the answer will have been announced via moderation).
- When posting in the scavenger hunt, please follow all standard H.io rules, including post word minimum of 200 words.
- Each round, you will be given a riddle that will lead you to one of the 6 locations in the Scavenger Hunt as well as describe an item that you need to pick up at that location. Each location will have 3 previously described options. You will then post in the location you believe to be correct (preferably a description of your character arriving), and you will include in this post which of the items you pick up.
- You will receive points for choosing the correct location, and you will receive points for choosing the correct item. Note that you cannot choose the correct item if you choose the wrong location because each location has different items. You only get one post per round, so you cannot change your answer or edit it once posted.
- If you accidentally choose the wrong location in one round, no worries! The next riddle will still appear in your location during moderation even if you picked the wrong location, so you can get back into it and try to get the rest right.
- Items that are picked up are solely for the use of the scavenger hunt and you will not actually receive these items in-game or out-of-game. All "items" will be "returned" at the end of the hunt and you do not get to keep them in-game.
- No hints or help will be given from the moderation team. Do not ask us for hints or help, because you will not get them. Also, please do not share the answers or just copy what other users are doing. It's every user for themselves - and if you copy someone, they could be wrong and then you don't get points either!
- Any cheating, in-character or out-of-character, will result in your immediate disqualification from the hunt. We want this to be a fair and fun game for everyone. This includes any magical violence, physical violence, purposeful dissemination of incorrect answers, etc.
- Moderation will occur once a week, every Sunday, but times may differ week to week due to the moderator's availability. As such, you are strongly encouraged to not wait until the last minute to post your choice of location and item because you may miss the moderation deadline if you do so.
- This event will take place for seven weeks OOC - six weeks of the Hunt and then a final, currently secret portion in the last location. IC, it all takes place on the same day!
You do not need to sign up for this event. You are simply free to join.
The event will begin, OOC, on JUNE 30 and end on AUGUST 18. Moderation will occur every SUNDAY.
However, the event takes place, IC, on JULY 30.
MAKE SURE YOU DON'T POST IN THIS THREAD UNTIL YOU BELIEVE THAT THE SCOREBOARD IS THE ANSWER TO THE CURRENT RIDDLE! WHEN YOU DO, MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE ONE OF THE THREE ITEMS: STICKS, QUILLS, OR CANDLES!

There was a golden envelope in the hands of Tristan and the riddle written upon it was strangely curious. It seemed to be a scavenger hunt for summer camp and thus he pondered upon its meaning for some time. Where were advertisements to be found in the quidditch stadium? There was no easy answer for him. Though he was intelligent and knew many a thing, Tristan had never really paid attention to where such things were as a former quidditch team member at Hogwarts. Nor had he ever truly been to a quidditch game outside of his own. But the only place that seemed to display anything was the scoreboard, so in a strange way, he concluded that this must be the place where adverts were displayed, unless he was thinking too much like a muggle rather than a pureblood, having stayed in Muggle London with his tutor in a flat that his parents owned. There was certainly an answer that was more magical perhaps. A spell that showed what products to buy, perhaps, but this was the place he concluded on and so he walked towards the scoreboard. Underneath the board was a table, a table with three items located upon it. There were sticks, quills, and candles. There seemed to be only one answer for an item found at the end of the school grounds and that was sticks. So that was what he grabbed. He was confident that this was the right place and the right item for he was an observant young man and was always liable to observe carefully any clue that might be given. He saw faint letters on the scoreboard, there, of wizard wear, suggesting indeed that this was where commercials were displayed, yes, indeed.

Summer camp so far had been far from what Cass expected. For one, it didn't appear to be summer camp at all. The stadium was absolutely covered in snow for one. An impressive piece of magic for sure, but it had resulted in the packing less warm clothes that they would have liked. Still, nothing would stop them from taking part in every activity they possibly could this summer. Starting with the scavenger hunt. So here they stood, envelope in hand dressed in grey pants and a warm sweater staring up at the billboard. The riddle in their opinion had been simple enough, advertisements could only be found in one place in a quidditch stadium.
Watching matches with their family had lead them to visit a few times before, so finding the location of the billboard in question was no problem. The items however... Strange things to pick for sure. Unless you had brought one of your own though, only one item could be found at the "edge of the grounds". With a confident grin, they walked up to the pile and grabbed a stick in their cold hands. This scavenger hunt would be won in no time. By them of course. Their riddle solving skills could not be rivalled!
Well. Perhaps they could be by a Ravenclaw. They would get plenty of experience solving riddles every time they wanted to get into their common room. Cass would hate having to solve a riddle every time they wanted to sneak out, and they figured it must get boring after a few years. Did whatever asked the riddles ever run out or have to use repeats? Did it only let ravenclaws in or could just anyone solve the riddles? They made a mental note to go find out one day.

Another activity meant another challenge, and Colby was definitely up for it. A riddle was given out to all who wanted to participate. Colby read it over and over again. What could it have meant? There were six different areas that the summer camp student body could venture towards within the London Quidditch Stadium: The Top Box, The Scoreboard, The Stands, The Goal Hoops, The Concessions, and the Center Field. As Colby was reading the riddle, she remembered what her father told her about riddles. She needed to pick out words that do not belong. So far, it seemed that the word that jumped out at her the most was advertising.
Colby had gone to the London Quidditch Stadium before with her family. She was young, but remembered how the stands were filled with so many people who were cheering or boo-ing depending on the gameplay. She remembered how fast the Quidditch players were moving from one side to the other to score or defend their post. She also remembered her mother pointing to the scoreboard to share with Colby what team had the most points and which team needed to score to win. But there was something else about the scoreboard. It did more than just show the score, it showed commercials of different businesses that wanted to be featured to hundreds or thousands of people at once.
"That's it!" Colby said aloud to herself. She raced her way towards the scoreboard and saw that she wasn't alone in figuring this out. Two other people had also figured out the riddle. Hopefully they were all right. Colby's attention focused on a table ahead of her with three mounds. There were the following items placed on the table: a pile of sticks, a pile of quills and a pile of candles. She had to choose one. Was there a right answer in choosing?
Colby hated making choices like this. It was overwhelming. She looked over to see what the other two had chosen. Sticks. Were they right in choosing that? Maybe they were wrong. Taking a deep breath, Colby chose her item. She took out her right hand and grabbed a stick from the pile. "Here goes nothing," she said, feeling the item in her hand as she walked away from the table.

Rose woke up to discover an envelope perfectly balanced at the foot of her bed in the tent. She felt a surge of excitement as she read the words Scavenger Hunt, embossed in gold on the outside. She eagerly tore it open, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. The first part of the riddle led her to believe the answer was the Scoreboard, a thrilling start to her adventure.
With a determined stride, Rose made her way to the towering Scoreboard. It stood before her, unusually empty. She knew that this was where advertisements for wizarding business would usually be highlighted. Squinting a bit, she could even see the remnants of a previous commercial.
At the base of the giant blackboard was a wooden table with three piles: one of sticks, another of quills, and the last of candles. Each item seemed to beckon her, but Rose was focused. She paused, considering her options. Quills were certainly found in classrooms and candles might be in the Library or the Great Hall, but sticks? Sticks were unmistakably found on the edge of school grounds. Her excitement peaked as she confidently reached for a stick from the pile, the answer making perfect sense.
Holding the stick, Rose felt a wave of triumph wash over her. The scavenger hunt had just begun, and she was ready to tackle each challenge with enthusiasm. The empty Scoreboard loomed behind her, a silent witness to her success.

Date : July 30th, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said Sere came out from the tent with a high tension. In her right hand is an envelope with two words, embossed, colored in gold, says Scavenger Hunt. This is the first time Sere participated in this kind of event. When she read the schedule and found that Scavenger Hunt became one of the event in Summer Camp, she thought that every student who wanted to take part in this event had to register and she decided not to find out more because -again- she felt that this type of event won't suited her, although she was actually quiet interested in the event.
This morning, at the time she opened her eyes, Sere found the envelope placed at the foot of her bed. Huh? I didn't sign up for this. That's what her initial thought, but when she saw the same envelopes at the same position of every beds, this Gryffindor girl realized that this event was made for everyone and excited to participate in.
Currently, Sere is walking towards The Scoreboard. When reading the first riddle in the envelope, 'Firstly, you're tasked with finding where the advertisements show.' this girl doesn't hesitate to step towards the giant chalkboard-resemble thing. I think I saw something vague while passing by yesterday. That's right. Approaching the scoreboard, there are already three piles of items there. 'Gladrags Wizardwear'! That's what I saw yesterday. Sere has a quite sharp eyesight, combined with her perfectionist character, she didn't miss the detail on the scoreboard yesterday.
Sere read the riddle once again. 'Take something from the pile that you'll find on the edge of school grounds.' Her left hand instantly take a quill. Running is her daily activity. Once every two days, she runs whether it's at the Hogwarts Grounds or the Great Lake. She couldn't count anymore on how many quills she has seen, left by students after they do their tasks outdoor.
"I think this is the correct answer."

Interacting with @ Date - 30/07/24 WC 360/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts A scavenger hunt! Mylo had woken up to an envelope at their feet, containing a riddle. They'd done a few things relating to puzzles before with some other students, and had to complete a riddle every time they wanted to enter the common room, so this was something he was expecting to thoroughly enjoy.
Going to read the riddle he noted down all the important clues in it, somewhere that's used for advertising and something you can find at the edge of the grounds. Starting to rule out a few of the places, like the goal hoops and the centre fields where Mylo was certain that advertising wasn't done, they started looking at the other options that were left. They could all be used for advertising when you though about it, but while glancing over the scoreboard, which was quite empty at this time, they spotted something faint on it. Their brain not letting him just glance past it they took a closer look, spotting the dusty yellow remnants of something, squinting and taking an even closer look they could faintly make out the words Gladrags Wizardwear, which they recognised as the name of a shop that he'd heard others students talk about in the hallways.
This was most definitely an advertisement! Feeling confident this was the place Mylo took a look at the three piles that were situated at the bottom of the board. A pile of sticks, a pile of quills, and a pile of candles. Taking another look at the riddle they had to choose the thing that you'd find at the edge of the school grounds. He'd spent a lot of time on the grounds so started thinking back at the things he'd seen during their hours there. They'd never seen candles there before, and although they'd seen some parchment here and there in between the leaves of the trees actual quills he'd never seen either. But sticks, there were too many to count, all of which had fallen off of the trees littering the edge of the grounds. Happy with their deduction Mylo picked up a stick, wondering what else would be to come.
Action: going to the scoreboard and picking up a stick as the answer.

They wish they could say they were surprised by the method of delivery for the scavenger hunt, but they were wizards after all and this felt pretty suitable. Dori loved solving puzzles. Especially ones with distinct correct answers. They quickly ripped open the envelope and read it, while getting ready, which was quite the feat and they really should've just gotten ready then read. But it was fine. They suited up with some casual clothes and comfortable shoes for running around. They stopped and gave Elsi a kiss on the forehead, who was still sound asleep, and ran out of the tent. It was clear- especially with the current ad on the scoreboard for Gladrags Wizardwear what the answer was. Advertisements.⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛
Once they made it to the three piles, where students had already started showing up they quickly glanced through the three options. One of them would really be the only naturally occurring thing at the edge of the schoolgrounds, unless someone was planting two of the items. They tried to be sneaky, sort of walking around the ples and examining them far harder than they needed to before scooping up their item of choice and pretending like they had just fallen. It- really wasn't that serious. But Dori had been in sports their entire school career. They were competitive.Action || Arriving at the Scoreboard and grabbing a Stick.⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛

Oonagh, as she was well aware, was at a clear disadvantage for this so called Scavenger Hunt. The first clue, alright that was easy after all there was a huge billboard-score-thing that advertised for some guy called Gladrags. Kinda suspicious, who would be wanting to buy from a guy who had the word rags in his name? Perhaps that was exactly why he needed to advertise this grandly. Not that it mattered, but Oonagh trudged towards the scoreboard regardless.
It was the second half of the first clue that got to her, it implied something that could be found at the school grounds, or well the edge of it. Problem was: Oonagh hasn't been to that stupid school yet. What was she supposed to choose? She doubted there would be candles, why would anyone have candles outdoors? The rain would just extinguish them and the whole idea of candles on the grounds sounded idiotic. Regardless for her the decision was between quills and sticks; though she supposed there wouldn't be any manufactured and ready to use quills even if there were chickens or birds; there would be feathers. She had feathers on the farm in abundance because of the chickens. but that wouldn't mean they had birds at Hogwarts, would it? But her letter had said something about owls, would those count as quills? Where they on the ground just chilling and getting their feathers turned into quills? Oonagh sighed as she went with the safe choice and picked up one of the sticks. She had rarely seen a huge ground without at least one tree and even less without sticks.Action: Take sticks
