Dear Serena,

Who told you I ate Cauldron Cakes off the floor? Was it Delilah? It was also just a few seconds! I’m actually surprised you managed to get a letter to me in the mail. But this honestly made my day, I just got back from the doctor because my dad thought I contracted something. But I realized I’m allergic to coconut and now I can’t eat anymore coconut things. I’m not that sad about it though, they taste gross.

But now that you sent me all of this, you have to tell me your birthday because I owe you one. Tell me at school if you can’t write me back, otherwise I’m going to hound you down Towers! I miss you and Hogwarts already, I didn’t realize how boring it could be at home. Mum and dad are nice, but Sabrina isn’t even around anymore and my friend Theo moved to a different part of Derby. I hope to see you as soon as I can, maybe I can catch you on the platform!

Dear Reid,

I'm so pleased to hear I saw you eat it! Subtly is not your strength, dude. Hogwarts might be big but it's not that big. I'm shocked that the letter actually got to you too, to be honest. I wasn't sure of your exact address. The postal owls are kind of creepily impressive, I think. I think you addressed it right, though. Well, either way, I got it somehow! So it must have been ok.

How did you become allergic to coconut? Please make sure there wasn't any coconut sweets in your package! I think the sweets are okay but be careful!

Good luck with that plan, Kovacs. My birthday is long gone and your memory is the size of a pea. You'll forget before you finish the reading the rest of this letter! I get what you mean... I thought I would love being home but it's just so dull. There's so many needless gatherings to attend. I feel like I'm in a zoo or something with the amount of times my mother has made me dress up and prance around the room. It's so annoying and very awkward! What have you been doing?

I had no idea your initials had a J too! Mine's Jodha. Most people say it wrong though, but a few of my relatives call me by that. Does anyone call you Jacob?

Dear Serena,

You had to dress up? That doesn't sound fun, I did it only a few times, I still have trouble making my tie at school! What are the gatherings for? Are they like family reunions? I'd love to go to a reunion but with no formal stuff, that's really tedious. To be honest with you, no one really calls me Jacob at all.

My mom gets really mad and she's sometimes like, "Reid Jacob Kovacs!" when I'm in trouble. Do your parents do that? I think it's kind of scary when they do. Also, I am a terrible studier, I just can't focus for some reason! Like, it's more fun doing stuff then reading old smelly books.

Books are cool, but I would rather just do spells and stuff! But hey, maybe this coming year, I'll actually like reading - maybe not. But what about you? Are there any subjects you really like?

Dear Reid,

My mother is a big fan of dressing up. I can teach you how to do a single knot on your tie though. My father said there's other types of knots too but I don't know them. I can teach you the one I know though, it's very easy. My gatherings are mostly pureblood families meeting, networking, gossiping. Usual stuff. Very formal, very boring.

Oh dear, the full name for when you're in trouble. Sounds scary. My parents don't do that, actually. My mum gets short with me when she's mad so she just says 'Serena' but like... snappily, if that's a word? 

I hate studying! I'm trying so hard but nothing seems to go in... It feels kind of pointless. I should definitely pay a bit more attention in DADA this year, I think. We will probably need to know how to, you know, defend ourselves against the dark arts. I need to also get better at Charms, in general. What about you? 

I've been thinking about pets too. There's a lot of choice. My father said I should get an owl so I can write home more often. But I don't know, Hogwarts has a lot of them already. Why would I need my own one? Plus, I wouldn't be able to take it out of the owlery, which seems kind of sad. My gran has a cat though, perhaps one of those. I wonder what everyone else will get - do you have any idea?
