Brewing had always appealed to Evelynn. There was a systematic methodology to it. Like chemistry. It did not require one to be particularly powerful in an arcane sense, nor adept at casting. Instead, it was an art in and of itself, requiring finesse, understanding, patience, and a certain level of adaptability. Evelynn found it challenging in a relaxing sort of way. But there existed aspects of it that she certainly could do without, such as the butchering of certain necessary ingredients.

Nevertheless, it had to be done. While a pot nestled comfortably over a flame to bring it to medium-high heat, Evelynn butchered the snake. Off went its head. Out went its fangs. From the incision to its belly, she was able to strip off its skin and remove its innards. After thoroughly cleaning what remained under cool running water, she sliced the meat into small chunks and tossed them into the pot. They sizzled and crackled immediately, and the lioness had to take care that they didn't stick to the sides. She wrinkled her nose. As they browned, the aroma of cooked serpent filled the air. While not entirely unpleasant, neither was it particularly appetizing. She took a sip of wine to veil the aroma before dumping its contents into the pot with the browned snake.

Once it was just starting to boil, she reduced the heat to a low-medium. Silver strands of hair were dropped into it one by one. She watched as the four unicorn hairs spiraled with two slow clockwise stirs of the contents. The spoon tapped gently on the inside wall of the pot before being set off to the side. A heavy lid settled with a quiet clattering. It would have to simmer like that for twenty minutes. There was plenty of time to get some studying in. And so she sat off to the side of her cauldron to hunch over a great tome, now and then jotting down notes on a blank piece of parchment or practicing the movements of a spell with her wand.

Bridgette smiled as they closed the door to the dormitory that they shared with a few others, finding it odd that no one else was around the place but, regardless, it was a weekday and everyone had a general place to be on a weekday when they happened to be in a place such as Hogwarts.

They made their way down the twisting staircases of the Gryffindor commons and out of the Painted Lady's righted frame. The Painted Lady was doing as she always did, preening about her portrait and singing some awful tune. It wasn't, well, unusual for her to be this active this late in the morning, but Bridgette surmised it would become a nuisance if they happened to stick around any longer.

Bridgette had an unfinished bit of Potions homework to do, and so they were on their way down to the dingy Potions classroom in order to at least start working on said Potions homework. They close another door, go down another stairway and they're approaching the entrance to the Potions classroom. They slowly open the door to the classroom, noticing a few other students in there but opting to ignore them. They set up at one of the many empty tables, glancing over at an upperclassman that had been sitting at the opposite end of the table for a small moment before setting up to make their potion in order to complete their homework.

"Is yours going ok?" They query, laying out their book on the stone countertop.

Absorbed by a paragraph differentiating the finer aspects of a variety of atmospheric charms, Evelynn wasn't immediately aware that the voice that had sounded from across the table had been directed at her. It wasn't until no response came and she had absently glanced up somewhere between jotting down notes and returning to read the following paragraph that she made note of a pair of emerald eyes peering her way. Subconscious reflex forced a glance over her own shoulder as though expecting to see another pupil behind her that would explain the look cast her direction, but seeing noone there, she could only conclude that the girl had indeed been speaking with her.

"Yes," she answered simply. Understated confidence underpinned the lack of a glance at her cauldron or to confirm the time remaining on the countdown. There was no need on her part to confirm that her potion was going well. It was a recipe she had completed countless times by now, and it was progressing exactly as it should have been. A breath of silence fell between them as gray eyes fell over the other girl, studying her features and the expression on her countenance, the clothes she wore and the way she carried herself. The appearance of a new face always demanded a thorough inspection, and as Evelynn was unfamiliar with this particular student she would receive the full process.

"You are a Gryffindor student," came her quiet conclusion, vague recollection placing the younger witch amongst the lioness's own house. "Though your name escapes me. Can I help you with something?"
