A New Friend Closed

It had been a long day of classes and Brenda was more than ready to kick back and relax. After finishing her final class of the day, she strolled to the Courtyard and plopped down on one of the stone benches in the yard. She stared at the dragon statue spewing watch out of it's ears and heard somebody walk by. But they didn't just pass her.

"Brenda!"

Brenda heard voice she did not want to here. Lynn Tannor.

"Oh, hey Lynn!" Brenda tried to sound happy to see her fellow student even though she was not. "How are you today?"

Lynn began talking a mile a minute. "Well, don't get me started. Today, in Potions, Micheal told me to be quiet and stop talking because it was rude and I told him that I wasn't being rude, he was being rude because he wan't listening to me and he told me to shut up or he would tell the professor and I said that he was a tattle-tale and he said I was an idiot and I called him weak and he called me dumb and then he lost his temper and started swearing..."

Lynn continued to talk with her annoying run-on sentences. Brenda gave up and started picking at the skin around her nails. It had driven her mother crazy before she came to Hogwarts.

"Oy! Bren!" Brenda looked up and saw that Lynn had stopped talking and was now glaring at somebody. She looked over and saw that her beat friends, Belle, was waiting for her.

Brenda stood up.

"Umm... er... Lynn are you... do you mind if I join Belle? I-- um--"

"Just go," Lynn's voice sounded harsh with a tint of sadness, annoyance, and betrayal.

Is this really right? Brenda thought to herself. Just getting up and leaving her alone?

Benda sits back down.

"What are you doing?" Belle sneers.

"I'm going to stay here and listen to what Lynn has to say. It's very interesting."

Belle scrunches up her nose and stomps back into the castle. Brenda looks at Lynn and smiles as her new friend suddenly lunges toward her and wraps her arms around her.

Then a tiny voice mumbles in her ear: "thank you so, so much."
