It was finally time. After what seemed to be a hundred years, Laurie and her aunt had entered into the pet shop, Magical Menagerie.
Laurie and her aunt had come to Diagonal Alley to shop for her school books and materials. Just next month, she had to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
It seemed like a really big deal. Her aunt and uncle had shrieked with excitement at the thought of her going there.
When Laurie told them that she should not go, and that she would miss her friends at her old school, her aunt carelessly said that she could have a pet-an owl.
That was the only thing that Laurie was excited about. When they had finished searching for her books ( from Flourish and Blotts) and after they had gotten Laurie her wand( she would never forget that incident) they stopped by the pet store, as her aunt had promised. The first thing Laurie thought was-
It was amazing. The pet shop had a low and dingy ceiling and very little light around the dark area. However, there was a little window in which sunlight streamed in. The smell, though was horrible. But, Laurie guessed, that was how it was in pet menageries, even in a magical one like this one in front of her. Then she looked up and gasped. There were multiple musty cages everywhere, even on the ceiling! And even wonderful were the creatures residing inside the cages.
“ It is very smelly in here, isn’t it, Laurie?” Her aunt asked while coughing badly. Her aunt was allergic to almost everything.
“ Smelly? It really is amazing!’ Laurie replied to her aunt in an annoying tone. Why was her aunt oblivious to these things? The pet shop had a beautiful and mystical aura to it, but it was a bit smelly, Laurie had to admit. She then busied herself in looking inside the cages. There were rabbits, toads, pigmy puffs ( tremendously cute) cats and almost every animal imaginable.
But then, she reached the section she was looking for. The owl section. She had finally come. Just looking at the owls with their majestic beauty was enough for her. She loved all the owls she looked at , and it was really hard for her to decide which owl to take. She walked up and down the aisles , observing every owl carefully.
After some time they found the perfect match. It was a beautiful owl with a white shining coat and yellow eyes. It hooted softly and Laurie smiled. She checked the label ‘ Arctic owl’.
“ You, are simply perfect for me.” She ran to get her aunt. “
Hmmm. It is pretty. All right Laurie, we can get it for you. Let’s check the price.”
Laurie happily ran to the counter with the owl. The perfect owl.
