"Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind."

The Great Hall is a large room with four long tables where students of each House sit during the day and at mealtimes. A majestic enchanted ceiling that mirrors the outside weather is watching over people in the room.

The table you sit at now is a table that has sat through many centuries; its wood is as old as the castle it sits inside. Brilliant witches and wizards sat in the same seat you have, and it's no surprise if you were to follow suit. You've been sorted into a noble house, one that has ushered forth pioneers, scholars, and new age thinkers of the wizarding world.

Creative, clever, sharp, and wise minds sit among you - the future is bright, and so is yours. The students at this table fly the bronze and blue crest and an eagle that has always symbolized the truthful principles of Rowena Ravenclaw. We are excited to have you here, whoever you might be, and whoever you may be, it begins here - amongst your own. Whether you are new or old, eat well, talk with one another, and may you always find a friend on this table.
This is an RPG topic where all students are welcome to post. All RPG rules apply. Word count per post is 200 words, not including quotes, OOC chat or other people's words. Any flood type of message will be deleted and a warning owl is sent.

Lucretcia stood at the front with a surprised and almost concerned expression on her face as the hat shouted out her house. Ravenclaw...The house of her father. She was worried how much she may have in common with him to arrive in the same house, or maybe it was despite of his influence? who could say for sure. She looked down at her robes as with a shimmer they took on the blue aspects of her house and she let out a slight sigh. She could already hear the squeeing of her mother and deafening silence from her father. She crossed her arms and hugged herself some as she moved away from the front of the hall and towards the table.

It was packed full of students so there wasn't really anywhere to be alone so she grabbed a seat where it seemed the least packed and sat down, her gaze glued to the floor as she walked and then boring holes into the table as she sat, almost as if she was worried what would happen if she met someone's gaze. She let out a sigh as she settled into her seat, her expression morose and pensive as hundreds of thoughts clogged her mind.

Elizabeth was watching as the new first-years were sorted into their houses. Just last year she had been in that group herself!

As she tuned away from the moment of thought, she heard the Sorting Hat call out "Ravenclaw!" for Lucretcia Voll and, along with everyone else at her table, cheered loudly. It was always exciting when someone was sorted into the house that you were in.

She gave Lucretcia a smile as she sat down at the table and said, "Welcome to Ravenclaw! The best house to be in!" Then she chuckled, "Everyone says that they're in the best house."

Perhaps that's true, every house is the best house. She thought to herself. But then again, Ravenclaw is the best house. Then she added, "Did any of your parents come here? Mine did."

She slowly looked around the long table, seeing new faces as well as old ones. It did seem a bit more crowded than last year but also like there was something missing. Perhaps it was because last year's seventh years had graduated and were gone.

"And, piece of advice, since there are pranksters around, be watchful." She said and then added quickly, "Oh and, I'm one of the pranksters."

As much as Poppy didn’t like the hat calling her out on, well simply bring a Lytle, the pure blood family that lives in Canada. She was doing alrighty with how the ceremony went. Ravenclaw was a respectable house. She could make her parents proud from here surely.

She smiled, hoping to make a good first impression on her housemates, and walked down to the table. Then she simply sat down to wait and listen. She liked taking time to observe, listen, learn her environment before she acts. The last thing she needed was to make a fool of herself on her first night at Hogwarts. She couldn’t bare being haunted by preventable bad decisions.

She also took this time to make some note on her fellow housemates. Who was dressed up, who didn’t seek to care about her appearance. More importantly who was taking time to say hello to her, and who was focusing on the next student already? She could tell a great deal about values and make even bits about someone’s personality based on these slight actions and appearances. Maybe it would help her decide who to talk to?

Did she want to talk to anyone? She decided to wait to speak until she was spoken too. It was much safer that way. It would take more than some time of waiting and observing to understand the social code. She had to learn it if she didn’t want to embarrass herself. She could also push others away and focus on studies and sport.

Astrid stormed toward the Ravenclaw Table with dignity and no small amount of annoyance.

She knew from her reading that all four houses at Hogwarts had merit and value, but somehow she had a feeling that not being sorted into Gryffindor or Slytherin would make her already rocky relationship with her extended family even rockier. Research was valuable in her family, sure, but she was already seen as soft for attending Hogwarts. She could only imagine when her aunts and uncles found out that she'd not even been sorted into the houses of bravery and cunning.

Astrid crossed her arms, her eyes narrowed as she glanced around the table. Everyone else seemed so happy to be here. Perhaps, had she not cared about her family's opinions, she would have been too. Astrid's gaze settled on a smiling girl who seemed content to looking around quietly. Poppy was her name, if Astrid's memory was keen. Astrid didn't bother with a greeting of any sort, instead plunging into the question that was burning her tongue.

"What are your thoughts on Ravenclaw?" Astrid asked Poppy quietly, not wanting to disturb the intense focus of the Great Hall on the students that still had yet to be sorted. "I'd been hoping for, I don't know, Gryffindor. Slytherin."

“Ravenclaw seems nice. In a place of learners we’ll always have someone to help us with homework.” Poppy carefully choose her words to match what the fellow first year was saying. If they wanted Gryffindor, or Slytherin they probably wanted one of the more athletic houses that gained glory easily. In other words they were looking for a house to benefit them. However, Ravenclaw had its own benefits, and definitely shouldn’t be overlooked.

“Also my grandma was in Ravenclaw she’s going to be happy that I’m here.” She probably had more family that would be excited to see her placed in Ravenclaw, but she didn’t know anymore off the top of her head. No one older than her grandparents were alive. Yet a good portion of the family lived on through portraits. Those all were at the manner of her mom’s pure blood line. Which would be going to Poppy’s uncle after their grandparents passed, as him and his children carried the name.

In fact they lived at the manner now, and Poppy had visited before. She didn’t like the place. It didn’t feel so much like a home. It was much too large, and intimidating for that.

“Did you have any family go here?”

"Ravenclaw isn't a bad house by any means," Astrid agreed, her voice soft enough not to carry over the buzz of conversation around them. "I just thought that I knew myself a bit better than I did, is all."

Astrid wished that she had the optimism of Poppy. That she could just settle down and be happy for being sorted into Ravenclaw. Actually, it was almost contagious, and she definitely felt better about her house just from being in the echo chamber of eagles that was the Ravenclaw Table, but there was still an itch in the back of her head that made her think that maybe she could be more.

"My family all attended Durmstrang. My parents thought it'd be too dangerous for me, and they thought Hogwarts would be a better influence on me," Astrid said, sipping on a goblet of pumpkin juice. She grimaced. Pumpkin juice was a taste she'd yet to acquire in her years of living in England.

"Although, I suppose nothing can be done now. And I suppose I was asking for it, when I cracked open the school supplies list the moment I walked out of Flourish and Blott's," Astrid said with a smile.

"Which subject are you looking forward to the most?" she asked, watching Poppy with curious eyes.

Elio walked stiffly over to the Ravenclaw table, ignoring the loud whooping and numbly sitting down in an empty spot. He gazed forlornly at the decorated table of green and silver across from his table. He could almost hear the cackling of the hat laughing at his misery, what did the hat mean he would be good in Ravenclaw? He sighed dramatically setting his head down on his arms and watching as the rest of the students got sorted without much enthusiasm.

After the sorting was done, he watched as the toast he was just finishing suddenly transformed into a vast majority of desert options. He grinned, not being able to mask his awe about this school’s magic and how it worked. As he dug into his pumpkin muffin, he thought to how proudly his parents had seen him off, telling him to be a good boy at hogwarts and to make them proud.

They had explained all about the hogwarts houses to him, explaining each house, and their goods and bads. They had never really expressed which house they hoped he would be in, but he couldn’t help but feel a if he had betrayed their trust somehow. He knew his parents preferred his sister over his because of her wizard born status to his half blood status, but that wasn’t as if it was his fault. He didn’t know what he wanted to prove to himself, but he had failed his own test.

Bailey entered the dining hall, and made her way over to the Ravenclaw table. She was dressed in her normal school uniform, nothing special besides her gold pearl earrings and gold rings, which had been gifts for her birthday. Looking around the dining hall, she spotted her best friend Kim at his usual spot at the Griffindor table. Wishing that it wasn't the first day of school and she could sit with him, she looked wishfully across the room towards him. Not so secretly hoping he would look her way, she sighed and looked up and down her own table for a familiar face. Not spotting any particular faces she knew, she saw a few first or second years. A few seemed familiar, and those she assumed were second years. The ones she had no clue about were firsties she decided. Bailey generally knew everyone, or at least knew of most of the student - and staff - population.
A generally outgoing person, bailey had a smile on her face. Not an over the top one, but one that signaled that she was a kind person, which was only aided by her inviting aura.
Bailey gazed around the world, wondering where her friends were - particuarly @colin mccoire, @Hanako Tone, @Ava Winchect, @Clair Fernandez, and @Lucian Mornstern. Hoping their paths would cross soon, bailey turned to the food on the table and began to eat.

Poppy could somewhat relate to what her house mate has said. Although, she mostly just didn’t know herself that well. She knew she wanted to work hard but she figured that was a trait within each house, not just ravenclaw. What the hat said made plenty of sense, but it was never anything she thought off before.

“I’ve heard a lot about Drumstrang. They have a bunch of good duelers.” Yet they also created a good portion of dark wizards, which Poppy knew her mom had to fight to keep others safe. In fact as Poppy was sitting here enjoying her meal her mom might be off risking her life. She was glad that Astrid didn’t go to Drumstrang. Even if they didn’t become friends or if Astrid cost the house points at least she would be less likely to jump into the dark arts. The world needs less dark wizards.

Poppy had to pull herself out of that spiral of thought. It was time for her to talk with other first years. “My dad’s side is from Canada. If my mom moved back there with him I would be going to Ivermoney.” Poppy probably pronounced the schools name wrong just as it spelled it wrong.

She was asked this question before. She couldn’t not give a straight answer like with the nice second year on the train. “I think charms will be fun.” She really still couldn’t choose. Potions could be great, Herbology seemed a lot more fun than helping her mom with gardening, and of course she was looking forward to defensive against the dark arts. She dreaded the possibility of failing it, but maybe she could be fighting dark wizards alongside her mom one day.
