Wizard School is... Still School

Neil dropped his book bag onto the Gryffindor table, making a loud thump that had a few people looking in direction. He paid it no mind, sitting down to finally take a look at these textbooks I had spent some amount of money on. He had no idea how to tell what was cheap or expensive when everything was in wizard currency. Not like he was much better with muggle currency but at least he had the muggle-born excuse when he kept asking How many many knuts in a sickle again?
But no time to worry about money when he had things to read. If he was going to comprehend anything about anything that his professors mentioned in his classes, he was going to have to figure out what he was supposed to be learning about in the first place.
Neil turned to the first page of Magical Theory. The moment he began to read the author's introduction, he remembered how much he despised textbooks. There was a reason he wasn't put in Ravenclaw. What he needed was a spell that would let the words fly off the pages and into his brain in an instant where all the junk could be easily sorted out leaving pure comprehension. But Neil wasn't so lucky. If such a spell did exist it didn't do him much good considering he didn't actually know any spells yet.
Now there was trouble with wizard school. While it was elaborate, magical, and truly spectacular, it was still school. Neil rubbed his hand over the side of his face as he tried to read the first sentence of the book for the forth time. He gave up and started flipping through the pages. Maybe the book would have some pictures or diagrams he could look at instead of having to read the scholarly ramblings.

Malin had always had a low attention span.
But a magical school with magical classes? Now that she had to pay attention to.
She had always loved school, however, so she didn't have much of an excuse to join in with the grumblings about too much homework. But she did have an excuse to be completely helpless when completing her homework.
Malin was from a muggle family, and, even though her father was a wizard, he hadn't stuck around too long to teach her about magic and such, hence why she was still uncertain how many sickles made a galleon.
She walked into the Great Hall, her schoolbag slung over her shoulder filled with any books she could put her hands on from the Library. Her mission was simple: to not look like a babbling idiot when someone brought up anything even loosely related to magic.
She strode over to the Gryffindor table, pulling out one of her books to begin her reading.
She made it about two sentences before she was utterly confused. Was she supposed to know what an Antipodean Opaleye was?
She flipped loosely through the pages of the magical creatures book, none of the names triggering even a little memory from her. She resisted the urge to sigh, pulling out a different book instead.
'Magical Money for Muggles.'
Turning open the pages, she read only a little before she had accumulated nearly a thousand questions. Which ones were the bronze ones, again?
She looked around and spotted the person next to her, a boy with odd greenish-grey eyes and dark hair. Malin, being a notorious extrovert, didn't even hesitate before engaging in conversation.
"Excuse me, do you happen to know what the silver wizarding currency piece is called?" She questioned with a polite smile.
"She's delightfully chaotic; A beautiful mess."

Neil looked up from the book, taking any excuse to do anything but staring blankly at the wall of words in front of him. He glanced at the girl in front of him. She must have been a fellow first year judging from her height, and another Gryffindor as well. Neil of all people was the last person to ask about money, especially the wizard kind. However, the blonde girl now smiling at him didn't need to know that.
"Silver one? Sickle. Easiest one to remember for me. Silver. Sickle. Silver-sickle. Sounds similar to each other, see?" Neil smiled back at her, proud of his clever answer. Now just to hope that she doesn't ask him any further questions about wizarding money and break his facade of knowledge. Neil decided his best course of action would be to divert the conversation before he had a chance of being caught.
"You must be here to study too." He lazily gestured to the schoolbag slung over her shoulder. "I was just taking a second glance at-"
Neil was meaning to reference the title of the textbook in front of it when he realized he hadn't kept that piece of information securely in his memory. He flipped to the cover of the book, his eyes lighting up as they landed on the information he was looking for displayed across the cover in big letters.
"Adalbert Waffle-ing!" Neil stated with unearned confidence.
Only after repeating the name a couple more times in his head, Neil realized he had said the book's author instead of its title. And probably didn't pronounce his name correctly either. Waffle-ing didn't make much sense for a wizard's name when he wasn't sure wizards even ate waffles. And of course, with a second glance at the cover, the actual name was Waffling.
Neil only smiled and laughed, showing he had realized his mistake, though the awkwardness of the laugh betrayed his embarrassment.
"Don't even know what I just said there. I'm Neil McKenzie anyway." His introduction probably couldn't have gone any less smooth. He swore he wasn't usually this idiotic.
