Reyna was taking her cat with her on a run. Argentum loved the sun and had bounds and bounds of energy. It was incredible. Genie as she loved to call her cat, never got tired. However, she on the other hand got tired really easily.
Well not that easily. Compared to Genie, well that was a different story. So Reyna ran to keep her stamina up and well for fun. It helped her think after all.
So hen she stumbled across her running friend Sage with her cat, she found it quite a surprise. Collapsing next to her, she waved.
“Sage!” I exclaimed, “Fancy seeing you here! Were you going on a run with your cat too?” I asked.
I took a swig of water picking small pieces of grass. My clothes were probably dirty by now. Genie seemed to be playing with Sage’s cat.
“I didn’t know you also had a cat? What’s his/her name?” I asked. “And when did you get a cat?”
The two cats were enjoying their time just as I was already. I had known that this run was a good idea and it had turned out to be even better than I could have imagined. Friends, running and cats. That was the perfect combination.

Sage looked up to see Reyna rushing towards her. "Reyna!" She smiled at her friend and waved for her to join her in the grass. "Well, I thought about it! Casey's a bit jumpy though; I think all the movement might startle him!"

Sage pointed to her cat, dancing in play with Reyna's cat. The sun glinted off his pale orange coat. For a somewhat older cat, Casey sure seemed to be keeping his energy up!

"Yeah, that's Casey." Sage made a gentle chirping noise to get Casey's attention. "He's five, soon to be six. I found him as a stray and he's been stuck with me ever since!"

Casey rushed over to Sage and rolled into her lap. "Silly boy," said Sage with a laugh. "What about you? What's your cat's story? The two seem to like one another, so this might have to become an annual thing!"

Sage brushed her hand over the blades of grass, her eyes occasionally darting over in the direction of Casey and Reyna's cat. The warm sun beat down on her back, blinding her whenever she made the wrong decision to look towards the sun.

While the two girls might not have been on a run, Sage was having just as much fun as any other time.

Reyna laughed as she talked with Sage. It was quite nice. "Ah," she replied, "I was taking Genie for a run with me, she is a mound of energy all the time and I can't have her ruining our dorm over and over again!"
Reyna glanced at Sage's cat who was playing with Genie. How cute!!! Sage then answered her questions. Casey was the name of Sage's cat. She was much older than Genie who was only about 2 years old. But she was a stray cat! That was so cool! "A stray cat?" she questioned, "Wow, where did you find her?"
Then Sage asked what her cat's story was. She smiled. "Well, back at home I have a dog, her name is Aurum, she's amazing and I love her. When I went to Hogwarts however I couldn't bring her. So this cat was kind of a way to help me not miss Aurum as much I guess. I got her at the Magical Menagerie last year summer. She's been great and really reminds me of Aurum. I named her Argentum which means silver kind of how Aurum means gold in Latin. And yea." Reyna explained.
Reyna was having fun already. They weren't running but they were talking and watching their cats. That was just as good.
"I would love her this to be a thing!" Reyna exclaimed, "Maybe next time we could have a picnic, maybe near the Great Lake?"

Sage could not imagine a better duo: running and cats, both things she loved. "With a cat with as much energy as that, a run might be good for her!" Sage laughed, nodding towards Reyna's cat. "How old is she?"

"Well, my step-mum and I just found him out wandering. We saw his eyes and were worried he wouldn't be able to protect himself out on the streets, so we took him in! He's pretty shy and jumpy, but we get along pretty well, right, Casey?" Casey ignored her, closing his eyes for a nap.

Sage listened carefully while Reyna told her about how she got her cat, Argentum, and about missing her dog. While she wasn't a big fan of dogs- too loud, too big for her taste- she could understand why Reyna would miss her dog.

"Do your dog and cat get along? Or do they fight like, well, dogs and cats? Those are such cute names! If you ever got another animal, you could name it whatever bronze is in Latin to match these two!" Now, Sage didn't quite know what the Latin translation for 'bronze' was right off the top of her head, but it had to be a good pet name, right?

"Yeah, that would be fun! Maybe next year when we're back since it's almost summer?" she suggested. As much as she hated waiting until next year to go running with Reyna, the chaos at the end of the year was getting to her.

Reyna giggled at Sage's comment. "I guess so! And I guess now she's almost 2 years old now! But still a baby at heart!"
She grinned at Sage's story about her cat. "That is sooo sweet!" she replied. She then burst out laughing as the cat went to take a nap. "I can't imagine Argentum ever going to take a nap, she barely ever wants to sleep at night! Is your cat normally this sleepy?"
Reyna listened to Sage's questions about her cat and dog and smiled. "Well, yeah, they do. Sometimes. Since my cat acts like a dog, they get along. Although they always fight for my attention, and practically destroy half of the backyard every day. But that's okay." She paused to take a breath. She knew she was ranting but that was okay. "Yes! I would. It is Aes in Latin, I think. Don't know if that's the best pet name but oh well! How'd you choose to name Casey, well, Casey?" She giggled at the thought. What animal deserved a name of Aes? Maybe like a bunny? She had enough animals though. And plenty of chaos.
Reyna nodded, agreeing to what Sage said. It was true. She was almost done with her SECOND year. Crazy. "Yeah of course! That's a great idea!" She understood. And she was totally okay with this.

The April sun shone down, causing a light sweat to appear on Sage's forehead. It was so warm. Too warm for a run or even a light jog. She'd probably need to head back inside the castle soon to cool off before dinner.

She listened to Reyna, nodding or laughing when necessary. "I chose Casey because it means 'brave', and he's one of the bravest cats I know." Kind of a cringy answer, but whatever. It was the truth. "What made you chose the Latin versions of Silver and Gold for your pets?"

Reyna agreed to running together next year, and Sage smiled wider. "It's crazy to think the year is nearly over. It feels like it just started!" She shook her head, laughing emotionless. She wasn't sure how ready she was for the year to be over. When would you want to run? Probably before it gets too cold. Maybe we could try to meet each other on the train to school to plan?"

Casey opened his eyes and pawed at her arm, making the drawn out meow he made when he was too warm or cold. "I think it might be time for me and Casey to head on inside," she explained. "Bye, Reyna! It was nice seeing you!"

She stood up, tucked Casey carefully in her arms, and ran back inside.

Reyna smiled as Sage explained one of the reasons why she chose Casey as the name of her cat. "Cute!" she replied. "No idea why I chose those names, I just though gold and silver would be boring. And they're unique, just like their names." She didn't add the fact about reading about dogs and cats named that in her favorite book series.
"I know right!" Reyna added. "It went by insanely fast, to be honest." This year had been crazy. Between all the new friends she made, to broomracing and everything else, this year had been chaotic. She wondered what next years adventure would be like. Whatever it would be, she would be ready for it. Hopefully.
"Maybe the train. Or we could send each other owls about it. We should totally meet in the dorms to talk too. But mornings once school starts would work the best probably. Not too hot, not too cold?" she said.
Reyna smiled as Sage said she had to go. While it wasn't a really long time she spent with Sage, she was glad that she had made the time to have a picnic with her. Argentum in the corner was still running around. Good lord, she had too much energy. She scooped up Genie and the things she brought and said "Bye Sage! See you later!! It was so nice seeing you!!"
She then sat there for a few moments, soaking in the sun and then ran back inside as it was getting hot. The sun, and Sage, had made her happy. Now it was time to go do some other things. More productive things.
